Which Compact SUVs Have a Turbocharged Engine? All 11, by Engine (2026)
The Maruti Brezza now has a 1.0 turbo (81 kW, 110.12 PS, 170 Nm, manual only) on four trims from Rs 7,49,900, while the Fronx turbo makes 100.06 PS and 147.6 Nm and is the only Maruti turbo with an automatic. The XUV 3XO TGDi is the most powerful at 96 kW and 230 Nm from Rs 12,02,500. The Venue, Syros, Nexon and Sonet sit at about 120 PS, the Kylaq at 115 PS. The Hyundai Exter has no turbo, and several of these cars also sell a non-turbo engine under the same name. Tata prices could not be verified.
Eleven sub-4-metre SUVs on sale in India have a turbocharged petrol engine: the Maruti Brezza, Maruti Fronx, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Kia Syros, Skoda Kylaq, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. Outputs run from 100 PS in the Magnite and Kiger to 96 kW (about 130.5 PS) and 230 Nm in the XUV 3XO's TGDi engine. The cheapest one we could verify is the Maruti Brezza LXi Turbo at Rs 7,49,900 ex-showroom, and the Hyundai Exter is the one small SUV in this class with no turbo at all.
This is a reference list organised by engine, so you can see which badge hides which motor. Three cars use Suzuki's 998 cc turbo in two different tunes, three share one Hyundai-Kia engine, and two share one Renault-Nissan engine. If you only want the fastest of them, that is a different question, and the XUV 3XO answers it.

Prices are ex-showroom, read from each maker's own price page or price tool on 13 October 2026. The Kiger figure is from Renault India's June 2026 price announcement. Power is shown the way each brochure prints it. Where a brochure gives only kW (Mahindra, Tata, Kia for the Sonet), the PS figure in brackets is our own conversion at 1 kW = 1.3596 PS and is marked "about".
What counts as a compact SUV here
Compact means under four metres long, the tax-defined small-car class. That is why the Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Citroen Basalt and Citroen Aircross are not in the table even though all four are turbocharged: each is a size up. They get a short section near the end.
A turbocharger uses exhaust gas to push more air into the cylinders, so a 1.0-litre or 1.2-litre engine can make the torque of a bigger one, and make it lower in the rev range. Every engine below is a three-cylinder petrol between 998 cc and 1,199 cc.
Maruti Suzuki: two turbos, not one
Maruti's sub-4-metre range has two turbocharged SUVs, and they do not share a tune.
Maruti Brezza 1.0 turbo
The new Brezza, whose prices took effect on 24 July 2026, comes with a turbo petrol. Maruti's brochure lists it as the K10C DiTC Smart Hybrid: 998 cc, 81 kW (110.12 PS) at 5,500 rpm and 170 Nm from 2,000 to 3,500 rpm, with a 6-speed manual and no automatic. Certified mileage is 20.47 km/l for the LXi and VXi Turbo and 19.96 km/l for the ZXi and ZXi+ Turbo.
Four trims carry it. Maruti's Arena price list has the LXi Turbo at Rs 7,49,900, the VXi Turbo at Rs 8,64,900, the ZXi Turbo at Rs 9,94,900 and the ZXi+ Turbo at Rs 11,25,900, or Rs 11,41,500 in dual tone. That makes the turbo the cheapest Brezza, below the 1.5-litre LXi at Rs 8,11,400.
The limits are plain. If you want an automatic Brezza you are back in the naturally aspirated 1.5 K15C (75.8 kW, 103.05 PS, 139 Nm) with the 6-speed torque converter, and the S-CNG is also the 1.5. The Bharat NCAP 5-star rating, 30.41 out of 32 for adults and 43 out of 49 for children, lists the 1.0 turbo 6MT among the variants it covers.
Maruti Fronx 1.0 Turbo Boosterjet
The Fronx turbo is also a 998 cc Suzuki engine with Smart Hybrid assistance, and it makes less: 73.6 kW (100.06 PS) at 5,500 rpm and 147.6 Nm from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm. It is the only one of the two with an automatic, a 6-speed torque converter with paddle shifters. Maruti certifies 21.5 km/l for the 5-speed manual and 20.01 km/l for the automatic, the highest mileage figures on this page, and quotes 0 to 60 km/h in 5.3 seconds.
The turbo starts at the Delta+ 1.0 Turbo manual at Rs 8,96,900, then the Zeta manual at Rs 9,75,900 and the Zeta automatic at Rs 11,03,900. The range tops out with the Alpha automatic in dual tone at Rs 12,02,900. The Sigma, Delta and the other Delta+ versions use the naturally aspirated 1.2 (66 kW, 89.73 PS, 113 Nm).
Two weaknesses belong in any honest entry. At 100.06 PS the Fronx is tied for the least powerful turbo in the class, and it has no Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP result for the Indian car. Boot space is 308 litres.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor
The Taisor is the Fronx with Toyota badges, and its brochure prints the same 73.6 kW (100.06 PS) and 147.6 Nm. Mileage is not the same: Toyota states 21.18 km/l for the manual and 19.86 km/l for the automatic. The turbo is offered on the G and V trims. Toyota publishes no ex-showroom price list, so we cannot give a starting price.
Mahindra XUV 3XO: two turbos in one car
Every petrol XUV 3XO is turbocharged. Mahindra's brochure lists a 1.2 mStallion TCMPFi with port injection at 82 kW and 200 Nm, and a 1.2 mStallion TGDi with direct injection at 96 kW and 230 Nm from 1,500 to 3,750 rpm. Both come with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Mahindra prints kW only; 96 kW converts to about 130.5 PS, the highest output of any sub-4-metre SUV.
On Mahindra's price page the TCMPFi runs from the MX1 at Rs 7,79,000 to the REVX A automatic at Rs 12,39,500. The TGDi is reserved for the AX5 L, AX7 and AX7 L, starting at Rs 12,02,500 for the AX5 L manual and ending at Rs 15,03,500 for the AX7 L automatic. So the headline engine costs about Rs 4.2 lakh more than the entry price suggests. Mahindra's brochure prints no fuel-efficiency figure.
Hyundai and Kia: one 1.0 T-GDi, three bodies
Hyundai Venue
The Venue brochure lists the Kappa 1.0 Turbo GDi at 88.3 kW (120 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 172 Nm from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm, with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT. Hyundai's price list starts the turbo at the HX2 manual, Rs 8,93,600, and ends at the HX10 DCT dual-tone Knight at Rs 14,99,900. The HX2 and HX4 also come with a naturally aspirated 1.2 (83 PS), so check the engine line on the quote.
The Venue N Line is the same engine in a sportier trim, from Rs 10,66,100 for the N6 manual to Rs 15,66,700 for the N10 DCT dual tone. The Venue's Bharat NCAP result is 31.15 out of 32 and 44.46 out of 49. Hyundai's brochure prints no certified mileage.
Kia Sonet
Kia's Sonet brochure gives the Smartstream G1.0 T-GDi as 88 kW at 6,000 rpm and 172 Nm from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm, which converts to about 119.6 PS. There is no conventional manual: the choice is a clutchless iMT or a 7-speed DCT. Kia's price tool returns Rs 9,33,900 for the HTK (O) iMT, Rs 9,99,900 for the HTK (O) DCT and Rs 13,88,900 for the X Line DCT. Lower trims use a 1.2 petrol (61 kW, 115 Nm).
Kia Syros
The Syros has no naturally aspirated petrol, so every petrol Syros is the 1.0 T-GDi, which Kia's Syros page rates at 120 PS and 172 Nm. It gets a proper 6-speed manual or the 7-speed DCT, from Rs 8,41,900 for the HTE to Rs 14,99,900 for the HTX (O) DCT. Its 5-star Bharat NCAP rating covers the turbo petrol family and not the diesel.
Tata Nexon
Every petrol Nexon in Tata's brochure uses the 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron: 88.2 kW at 5,500 rpm and 170 Nm from 1,750 to 4,000 rpm, about 119.9 PS by conversion, with 5-speed and 6-speed manuals, a 6-speed AMT and a dual-clutch automatic. The brochure we read is dated January 2025. The 260 Nm often quoted for the Nexon belongs to the 1.5 diesel.
We have not given a price. Tata's car website was unreachable on 13 October 2026 (its security certificate had lapsed and the pages returned errors), so no Nexon price in this article could be checked against Tata. The same applies to the Tata Punch turbo, which we have left out of the table for that reason. Tata's brochure also prints no fuel-efficiency table.
Skoda Kylaq
The Kylaq is sold with one engine, so there is no non-turbo version to avoid. Skoda's model page lists the 1.0 TSI at 85 kW (115 PS) and 178 Nm, the most torque of the 1.0-litre engines here, with a 6-speed manual on every trim and a 6-speed torque converter automatic from the Classic+ up. It starts at Rs 7,59,000. Bharat NCAP gave it 30.88 out of 32 and 45 out of 49.
Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger: one 100 PS engine
Nissan's brochure lists the HRA0 1.0 turbo at 100 PS at 5,000 rpm, with 160 Nm from 2,800 to 3,600 rpm on the manual and 152 Nm from 2,200 to 4,400 rpm on the CVT. Renault's Kiger brochure prints the same four numbers. The CVT trades 8 Nm for a wider torque band.
Nissan certifies 19.9 km/l for the turbo manual and 17.9 km/l for the CVT. Its price list puts the Magnite Turbo manual at Rs 8,81,000 (N-Connecta) to Rs 9,95,000 (Tekna+), and the CVT at Rs 9,30,000 (Acenta) to Rs 10,99,000 (Tekna+). Renault's June 2026 announcement priced the Kiger turbo manual from Rs 7,89,000 (Evolution+) and the CVT from Rs 9,35,000 (Techno). Both cars also sell a 72 PS non-turbo 1.0, so the badge on the tailgate matters.
Compact SUVs that do not have a turbo
The Hyundai Exter is the clear case: Hyundai's price list shows only the 1.2 Kappa petrol. Beyond that, several cars above sell both kinds of engine under one name. The Brezza 1.5, the Fronx 1.2, the Venue 1.2, the Sonet 1.2 and the 72 PS Magnite and Kiger are all naturally aspirated. Automatic buyers are the ones most likely to be caught out, because the Brezza automatic is not a turbo while the Fronx Zeta and Alpha automatics are.
One size up
If your definition of compact stretches past four metres, four more turbo SUVs qualify. The Skoda Kushaq starts at Rs 10.69 lakh with the 85 kW 1.0 TSI, and the Volkswagen Taigun at Rs 10,99,900 with the same engine (115 PS, 178 Nm), with a 150 PS 1.5 TSI further up both ranges. The Citroen Basalt and Aircross use a 110 PS 1.2 turbo with 190 Nm as a manual and 205 Nm as an automatic. We could not read Citroen's ex-showroom prices from its pricing tool.
For buying advice on six of these cars rather than a full list, see our earlier comparison of turbo-petrol compact SUVs.
How this list was built and what was not verified
We started from the turbo SUVs named in the usual lists and checked each against the manufacturer's current brochure and price page on 13 October 2026. Maruti figures come from the Brezza and Fronx brochures and Maruti's own price lists. Rival power and torque come from the Mahindra, Hyundai, Kia, Tata, Nissan, Renault, Toyota and Citroen brochures, and from Skoda's and Kia's model pages for the Kylaq and Syros.
Not verified, and so not printed: any Tata price, the Taisor's price (Toyota publishes none), Citroen prices, and certified mileage for the Mahindra, Hyundai, Kia, Tata, Skoda and Renault engines, whose brochures or pages do not state it. The PS figures for the XUV 3XO, Nexon and Sonet are our conversions from kW. Kia's price tool lists a Sonet HTK iMT below the HTK (O) but returned no price for it, so the Sonet's true turbo entry point may be lower than the Rs 9,33,900 shown.
