The most powerful 7-seater MUVs on sale in India are the Kia Carnival and the Toyota Vellfire, both rated at 142 kW (193 PS) in their makers' brochures. Just behind them, at 139 kW, are the Maruti Suzuki Invicto (188.9 PS total system output) and the Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid, which share the same 2.0-litre strong-hybrid system. The Invicto Zeta Plus 7-seater costs Rs 25,02,400, which is Rs 34,62,500 less than the Carnival (Rs 59,64,900) and Rs 1,73,600 less than the cheapest Hycross hybrid. Below those four come the petrol Hycross at 126 kW, the turbo Kia Carens Clavis at 117.5 kW and the diesel Innova Crysta at 110 kW. Prices are ex-showroom Delhi, checked October 2026.

This page ranks cars on one thing: peak power as the maker publishes it. We used kilowatts because every maker on the list prints kW, while their PS and HP labels don't always line up. Torque gets a column for context, but it is not what decides the order. Torque leadership by segment is a separate question with a different answer, and the premium MPV fuel-economy comparison covers running costs.

Power and torque come from each model's current brochure. The Invicto's engine-only torque is from the variant spec table on NEXA's Invicto price page, because the brochure prints only the system power and motor torque. Maruti prices are from NEXA and Arena price pages in single-tone paint. Toyota prices are from Toyota's Delhi dealer price list, excluding the Platinum White Pearl surcharge. The Carnival price is from Kia's Carnival page and the Clavis range from Kia's Clavis page. Renault's Triber page gives the starting price of the range, not of the turbo.

How this list was built and what was not verified

The ranking criterion is peak power in kW as printed by the manufacturer. For strong hybrids that means the maximum system output the maker publishes, because the engine and electric motor peak at different speeds and you cannot add the two figures. Ties are shown as ties. We counted only MUVs and MPVs (van-bodied people-movers) with seven seats or more. Three-row SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner and Mahindra XUV 7XO are a different body style and are not ranked here, and neither is the Maruti Suzuki XL6, which is sold only as a 6-seater.

What we could not check:

  • Electric MPVs are not ranked. We were unable to get spec sheets from BYD for the eMAX 7, from Kia for the Carens Clavis EV or from MG for the M9 during this check, and we would rather leave them out than quote figures we haven't read. If you are open to an EV, compare their published outputs with the table above before you decide.
  • Toyota's Delhi price list returned no Vellfire price when we checked, so it has no price in the table.
  • The Toyota Rumion uses the Ertiga's 1.5-litre engine. We didn't extract Toyota's own output figures for it, and Toyota sometimes rates a shared engine differently from Maruti, so it is left off rather than given the Ertiga's numbers.
  • The Nissan Gravite and the base Kia Carens were not verified for this list.
  • We did not run acceleration tests. Peak power is a rough guide to performance, not a measure of it, and weight matters: the Invicto's own brochure gives kerb weights of 1,620 to 1,685 kg.

1 (tie). Kia Carnival: 142 kW from a diesel

Kia's brochure lists a 2.2-litre diesel making 142 kW and 45 kgf.m, which works out to 193 PS and 441 Nm. That torque figure is the largest of any MPV here by a long way, and it comes with an 8-speed automatic. The Carnival is long at 5,155 mm on a 3,090 mm wheelbase, seats seven in a 2+2+3 layout and is sold as the Limousine Plus at Rs 59,64,900.

The equipment matches the price. The brochure lists eight airbags, Level 2 ADAS with 23 functions, a head-up display, a 12-speaker BOSE system, a wide dual electric sunroof and powered second-row relaxation seats with ventilation, heating and leg support. Bharat NCAP has not rated it. It costs more than twice what any Innova does, and that is the real argument against it.

1 (tie). Toyota Vellfire: the same 142 kW, from a hybrid

Toyota's Vellfire brochure gives its 2.5-litre hybrid system 142 kW (193 PS), with the engine making 240 Nm. It drives through a CVT. The Vellfire is 5,005 mm long and seats seven, with extra-large second-row captain seats with ottomans and a massage function. It ties the Carnival on paper, but it is built around rear-seat comfort rather than performance, and Toyota didn't give us a current Delhi price. For how the two compare as chauffeur cars, see our chauffeur-driven MPV guide.

3 (tie). Maruti Suzuki Invicto: 139 kW for the least money

The Invicto's brochure prints a total system output of 139 kW, or 188.9 PS at Maruti's stated conversion of 1 kW to 1.35962 PS. The 1,987 cc petrol engine on its own makes 112 kW at 6,000 rpm and 188 Nm at 4,400 to 5,200 rpm, according to NEXA's variant spec table, and the electric motor adds up to 206 Nm. Maruti doesn't publish a combined torque figure, and neither does Toyota for the Hycross.

So the Invicto has 3 kW less than the two cars ranked above it, and it costs Rs 25,02,400 for the Zeta Plus 7-seater against Rs 59,64,900 for the Carnival. Among 7-seat MPVs under Rs 50 lakh, nothing we could verify makes more power. The other two variants are the Zeta Plus 8-seater at Rs 25,37,300 and the Alpha Plus 7-seater at Rs 28,70,500, all with the same output and the same e-CVT.

What the power does not buy is worth knowing too. The Invicto is a front-wheel-drive car, 4,755 mm long, certified at 22.16 km/l, and it has no ADAS on any variant. Bharat NCAP rates it 5 stars, with 30.43 of 32 for adult occupants and 45.00 of 49 for children. More detail is on the Invicto model page.

3 (tie). Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid: same 139 kW, Toyota's own labels

The Hycross hybrid and the Invicto share their hardware, and Toyota's brochure also gives the system 139 kW. It labels that as 183.7 HP, which is why you will see the Hycross quoted lower than the Invicto even though the kW figure is identical. Toyota also rates the engine's torque at 191 Nm, against Maruti's 188 Nm for the same engine, with the motor at 206 Nm. We have kept each maker's figures as printed.

The hybrid Hycross runs from the VX 7-seater at Rs 26,76,000 to the ZX(O) limited edition at Rs 32,95,000. It has six airbags on every grade, and the ZX(O) is the only grade with Toyota Safety Sense (radar cruise control, lane trace assist and a pre-collision system). Bharat NCAP gives it 5 stars, 30.47 of 32 for adults and 45.00 of 49 for children. For the same power as the Invicto, the cheapest hybrid Hycross costs Rs 1,73,600 more.

5. Toyota Innova Hycross petrol: 126 kW without the hybrid

The non-hybrid Hycross uses a 1,987 cc petrol engine rated at 126 kW and 204 Nm, with a CVT. Toyota labels the output 172.992 HP; in PS it is about 171. The draft we started from put it at 174 PS and 205 Nm, and both figures were slightly high. The petrol Hycross is sold from the GX 7-seater at Rs 19,53,000 to the GX(O) 7-seater at Rs 20,97,000, and it is the cheapest way into a 7-seater MPV with more than 120 kW. Toyota also lists a G grade at Rs 18,70,000, which is a fleet grade.

6. Kia Carens Clavis turbo: 117.5 kW in a smaller car

The Clavis is a size down from the Innovas. Kia defines its segment as vehicles under 4,555 mm long. Its 1,482 cc turbo petrol makes 117.5 kW (160 PS) at 5,500 rpm and 253 Nm from 1,500 to 3,500 rpm, with a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed clutchless iMT or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Kia lists Level 2 ADAS only on the 7DCT versions. The Clavis range runs from Rs 11,38,900 to Rs 21,78,900, and the turbo is not on the base trims. In this price band, nothing with a third row makes more power. See the Carens Clavis model page for the trim ladder.

7. Toyota Innova Crysta: 110 kW, but 343 Nm

On power the Crysta is seventh: its 2,393 cc diesel makes 110 kW (150 PS). On torque it is second only to the Carnival, at 343 Nm from about 1,400 to 2,800 rpm (Toyota prints this as 23.33 to 46.66 revolutions per second). Every Crysta has a 5-speed manual, from Rs 19,95,000 for the GX 7-seater to Rs 26,96,000 for the ZX. If you plan to drive fully loaded in the hills, that torque matters more than the kW rank suggests.

The rest: Clavis diesel, Triber turbo and Ertiga

The Clavis 1.5 diesel makes 85 kW (116 PS) and 250 Nm, with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. Renault's new Triber turbo makes 100 PS at 5,000 rpm and 180 Nm, with a 5-speed manual, and Renault certifies it at 21 km/l. The non-turbo Triber makes 72 PS and 96 Nm. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga's 1.5-litre K15C makes 75.8 kW (103.06 PS) and 139 Nm, with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic, from Rs 8,90,000 to Rs 13,14,100.

The Ertiga is last here on power, and we won't pretend otherwise. It is on the list because it is the 7-seater most families actually buy, and its 103 PS is about what most people need in town. With seven adults on board in the hills, it will need downshifts that the Invicto or Crysta won't.

Which one to buy

  • For the most power for the money: the Invicto Zeta Plus 7-seater, 139 kW for Rs 25,02,400.
  • For the most power regardless of price: the Carnival, 142 kW and 441 Nm for Rs 59,64,900.
  • For strong pulling power on a lower budget: the Innova Crysta diesel, 343 Nm from Rs 19,95,000, if a manual suits you.
  • For the most power under Rs 22 lakh: the petrol Hycross (126 kW from Rs 19,53,000) or the Clavis turbo (117.5 kW, range tops out at Rs 21,78,900).

Frequently asked questions

Which is the most powerful 7-seater MUV in India?

The Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire tie at 142 kW (193 PS) in their makers' brochures. The Carnival is a diesel with 441 Nm and costs Rs 59,64,900. The Maruti Suzuki Invicto and Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid follow at 139 kW, and the Invicto is the cheapest of those four at Rs 25,02,400.

Is the Invicto more powerful than the Innova Hycross?

No. They share the same strong-hybrid system and both makers rate it at 139 kW. Maruti converts that to 188.9 PS and Toyota labels it 183.7 HP, which makes them look different on paper. The Invicto costs less: Rs 25,02,400 against Rs 26,76,000 for the cheapest hybrid Hycross.

Which 7-seater has the most torque?

The Kia Carnival, at 45 kgf.m (441 Nm). The Toyota Innova Crysta diesel is next at 343 Nm. Hybrid makers publish engine and motor torque separately and no combined figure, so the Invicto and Hycross can't be ranked directly on torque.

What is the most powerful 7-seater under Rs 15 lakh?

Among the cars we verified, the Kia Carens Clavis range starts at Rs 11,38,900, but its 117.5 kW turbo is not on the cheapest trims, so check the turbo variant's price against your budget. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, at 103.06 PS, tops out at Rs 13,14,100.

Is peak power the best way to compare MUVs?

It is one useful measure. A loaded 7-seater relies on torque low in the rev range, and weight and gearing matter too. Use the power figure to shortlist, then drive the car with the seats filled.
