For buyers who want more punch, the 1.5-litre Turbo GDi petrol (1482cc) develops up to 158 bhp and is mated exclusively to a 7-speed DCT — it's reserved for the King variant and the Creta N Line (sold separately). Real-world numbers, as tested by Autocar India, are more modest: the petrol IVT returns about 13.33 km/l in mixed conditions (15.05 km/l highway, 11.17 km/l city). Users on HT Auto report city averages of 15–16 km/l for the diesel, touching 17 km/l on highways. The 50-litre fuel tank gives the diesel manual a theoretical range of over 1,000 km on a single fill — a compelling case for high-mileage commuters. Running costs are further helped by Hyundai's wide service network and competitive maintenance intervals.

Traction control modes — Snow, Mud, and Sand — are available across the range, giving the front-wheel-drive Creta a degree of all-terrain versatility that rivals often reserve for AWD variants.

The naturally aspirated petrol is the most relaxed of the three engines, well-suited to urban stop-and-go traffic. Tyre sizes range from 205/65 R16 on base variants to 215/55 R18 on top trims, with the larger wheels adding grip at the cost of a marginally stiffer ride.

Cabin, space, and tech

Step inside the Creta and the 4,330 mm length and 2,610 mm wheelbase translate into genuinely generous rear legroom for a five-seater compact SUV. The 433-litre boot is one of the largest in the segment and swallows weekend luggage for a family of four without compromise. The cabin is 1,790 mm wide, giving front occupants a broad, airy feel.

Higher trims get a 10.25-inch seamlessly integrated infotainment and digital cluster display, dual-zone automatic temperature control with touch controls, a voice-enabled smart panoramic sunroof, and a Bose 8-speaker premium audio system with a front central speaker and subwoofer. The SX, SX Premium, King, and King Knight variants add Hyundai Bluelink connected car technology with over-the-air map and infotainment updates, Home-to-Car (H2C) integration with Amazon Alexa, and remote AC and lock/unlock via app. Front ventilated seats, a wireless smartphone charger, and a driver power seat with memory function round out the King-tier luxury.

The King Knight edition adds a distinct character with all-black interiors featuring brass-coloured inserts, matte-black Hyundai and CRETA emblems, black alloy wheels with red brake calipers, and an exclusive exterior palette. Six mono-tone colours (including the new Robust Emerald Pearl) and one dual-tone option are available across the standard range.

Safety and ADAS

Safety is where the Creta genuinely leads its segment. Six airbags — driver, passenger, side, and curtain — are standard on every single variant, including the base E. ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Hill Start Assist, TPMS Highline, rear disc brakes, seat belt pretensioners, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and Emergency Stop Signal are also fitted across the board. This is a comprehensive passive and active safety package that many rivals only offer from mid-trim upward.

The King and King Knight variants add Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 ADAS, encompassing Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (for cars, pedestrians, cyclists, and junction turns), Blind-Spot Collision Warning and Avoidance, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Driver Attention Warning, Safe Exit Warning, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Follow Assist, High Beam Assist, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning and Avoidance. The Creta range spans nine configurations — E, EX, EX(O), S(O), S(O) Knight, SX, SX Premium, King, and King Knight — with petrol, diesel, and turbo petrol engines distributed across them. Prices start at ₹10.91 lakh for the E petrol manual and climb to ₹20.11 lakh for the King Knight diesel automatic (all ex-showroom). The mid-range S(O) and SX variants, priced between roughly ₹14–18 lakh, represent the sweet spot for most buyers, offering the panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and connected car features without the full King premium. Special editions — including the Summer Edition and Knight sub-editions — add desirable features to mid-tier trims at a modest price premium.

The Kia Seltos is the Creta's closest rival, sharing the same platform and engines but differentiating with a sportier design and slightly different feature distribution. The Maruti Grand Vitara undercuts the Creta on price and offers a strong hybrid option, but its cabin and feature list don't match the Creta's breadth. The Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun offer a more European driving feel with the 1.5 TSI engine, but their variant counts and feature-per-rupee ratio lag behind. The Honda Elevate is a strong alternative for buyers prioritising ride comfort and a no-frills approach, but it lacks the Creta's ADAS suite and powertrain variety. In terms of sheer choice — three engines, four gearboxes, nine configurations — the Creta has no direct equal in the ₹11–20 lakh compact SUV space.

Who should buy it

The Hyundai Creta suits a wide range of buyers, which is precisely why it consistently tops monthly sales charts. City commuters who want a comfortable, feature-rich SUV without spending over ₹15 lakh will find the petrol S(O) or SX variants compelling. High-mileage highway drivers — covering 1,500 km or more per month — should seriously consider the diesel manual for its 21.8 km/l ARAI claim and strong torque. Buyers who want the safest possible car in this segment can buy any variant knowing six airbags and ESC are standard. Tech enthusiasts and those who want a near-premium experience should look at the King or King Knight, which bring Level 2 ADAS, a Bose sound system, ventilated seats, and a panoramic sunroof for under ₹21 lakh. The Creta is not the right choice for buyers who need a third row — the Hyundai Alcazar handles that — or for those who want AWD capability.
