The Toyota Taisor's engine lineup is one of the most diverse in the sub-4-metre SUV segment. The entry point is the 1.2L K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT naturally aspirated petrol producing 89.73 PS and 113 Nm, available with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. CMVR-certified mileage is 21.71 km/l (MT) and 22.79 km/l (AMT) — the AMT figure is Toyota's claimed best-in-class figure for this segment. The same 1.2L block powers the factory-fitted CNG variant (E CNG grade only), where output drops to 77.5 PS and 98.5 Nm but efficiency climbs to a certified 28.51 km/kg, making running costs exceptionally low.

The 1.0L turbo-petrol is the performance choice, delivering 100.06 PS and a strong 147.6 Nm from as low as 2,000 rpm. It pairs with either a 5-speed manual (21.18 km/l CMVR) or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic (19.86 km/l CMVR). At current petrol prices, the turbo-AT's monthly fuel bill for 1,500 km of city driving works out to roughly ₹5,700 — competitive for the performance on offer. All petrol variants feature an Idle Start-Stop (iGS) system on the AMT and turbo grades to further trim urban fuel consumption.

The CNG tank holds 55 litres (water equivalent: 37 litres), identical to the petrol tank capacity, so range anxiety is minimal. The factory-fitted nature of the CNG kit preserves the full boot and avoids the safety concerns of aftermarket installations.

Performance and drive

The 1.0L turbo-petrol is the Taisor's headline act. Toyota claims a 0–60 km/h time of 5.3 seconds, and Autocar India's road test recorded a 0–100 km/h time of 11.86 seconds — brisk for a sub-4-metre SUV. The engine is described as smooth, responsive, and rev-happy, with a broad torque band that makes city overtaking effortless. The 6-speed automatic is smooth in everyday driving and allows full manual control via paddle shifters on the V Turbo AT variant.

The 1.2L NA petrol is more relaxed in character, suited to urban commuting and highway cruising at moderate speeds. The 5-speed AMT does introduce occasional hesitation during gear changes — a trait common to AMT units — but the iGS system helps keep it efficient in stop-go traffic. The CNG variant, with its lower 77.5 PS output, is best suited to city use where its running-cost advantage is most pronounced.

Ride quality is generally well-judged for Indian roads, with the suspension absorbing urban potholes without excessive harshness. The 4.9-metre turning radius aids manoeuvrability in tight city spaces.

Cabin, space, and tech

Despite its sub-4-metre footprint (3,995 mm long, 1,765 mm wide, 1,550 mm tall, 2,520 mm wheelbase), the Taisor's cabin is described as roomy for both front and rear occupants. The 308-litre boot is competitive for the segment, and the 60:40 split rear seat adds versatility. A sliding front centre armrest is a thoughtful touch.

Tech highlights scale with the variant. S and S+ grades get a 7-inch Smartplay Cast touchscreen, while G and V variants step up to a 9-inch unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The G and V grades also add a head-up display, 360-degree camera (noted by CarWale as not HD resolution), automatic climate control with rear AC vents and USB, wireless charging, electrically foldable ORVMs, and cruise control. Tilt-and-telescopic steering is reserved for G and V; lower grades get tilt-only adjustment.

Toyota's iCONNECT connected-car platform on G and V variants enables smartwatch connectivity, remote vehicle ignition, auto collision notification, tow alert, find-my-car, and valet profile features — a meaningful suite for a car at this price point.

Safety and ADAS

Six airbags — dual front, front side, and curtain — are standard across every Taisor variant, a commendable baseline. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill Hold Assist, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat anchors are also fitted as standard. Reverse parking sensors with an infographic display come on all variants; a rear-view camera is added from S+ upward, and a 360-degree camera is available on G and V grades.

The Taisor has not yet been crash-tested by Bharat NCAP or Euro NCAP, so no star rating is available. ADAS features are not offered on any variant. For buyers prioritising a rated safety score, this is a notable gap compared to rivals like the Skoda Kylaq (5-star Bharat NCAP). Toyota does back the Taisor with a 3-year/1,00,000 km standard warranty, extendable to 5 years/2,20,000 km — one of the longest in the segment.

The Taisor spans 12 variants across five grades. The entry E MT (₹7.43 lakh) and E CNG (₹8.45 lakh) cover budget buyers. The S MT (₹8.33 lakh), S+ MT (₹8.68 lakh), S AMT (₹8.94 lakh), and S+ AMT (₹9.29 lakh) form the mid-range sweet spot with the NA petrol engine. The turbo-petrol grades begin with the G Turbo MT (₹10.45 lakh) and V Turbo MT (₹11.36 lakh), with dual-tone options for the V at ₹11.52 lakh. The automatic turbo variants — G Turbo AT (₹11.86 lakh), V Turbo AT (₹12.78 lakh), and V Turbo AT Dual Tone (₹12.94 lakh) — top the range. All prices are ex-showroom as of September 2026.

How it compares

The Taisor's closest rival is the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, which shares its platform and engines but is priced slightly lower and lacks Toyota's warranty advantage. The Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch compete in the same sub-4-metre space but don't offer a turbo-petrol automatic. The Skoda Kylaq enters at a higher price point but brings a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating and a more premium interior. The Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue offer ADAS features that the Taisor currently lacks, which is a meaningful differentiator for safety-conscious buyers.

Where the Taisor stands out is the combination of a factory-fitted CNG, a genuine turbo-petrol automatic, Toyota's extended warranty, and the iCONNECT connected-car suite — all within a sub-₹13 lakh ceiling. Autocar India rates it 8/10, calling it a good all-rounder.

Who should buy it

The Taisor S AMT or S+ AMT is the pick for urban commuters who want the best claimed mileage (22.79 km/l) in an automatic without spending over ₹10 lakh. The E CNG is ideal for high-mileage city drivers who can access CNG infrastructure, offering a certified 28.51 km/kg at the lowest running cost in the lineup. The V Turbo AT is for buyers who want the most feature-complete, performance-oriented sub-4-metre SUV Toyota sells, and who value the brand's 5-year extended warranty over a crash-test rating. Buyers who prioritise ADAS or a verified NCAP score should consider the Skoda Kylaq or Kia Sonet instead.
