Which SUVs Offer 6 Airbags or More in India? (2026)

Airbag count and tested safety are different things, and this list shows the gap clearly. The two highest counts here, the Skoda Kodiaq's nine and the Toyota Fortuner's seven, belong to SUVs with no Bharat NCAP result, as do the Maruti Grand Vitara, Fronx and Jimny. The best tested scores belong to SUVs that fit six: the Victoris at 31.66 of 32 for adults and the Mahindra XUV 7XO at 44.97 of 49 for children. For the two rated Marutis, the S-CNG variants fall outside the rating.

Nine SUVs on sale in India offer six airbags or more. The Skoda Kodiaq leads with nine as standard, ahead of the Toyota Fortuner on seven. The Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Harrier start at six and add a seventh knee airbag on higher trims, and five Maruti SUVs, the Victoris, Grand Vitara, Fronx, Brezza and Jimny, fit six to every variant.

Here is the part the airbag count will not tell you. Only four of these nine have been crash tested by Bharat NCAP. The Kodiaq and Fortuner, with the two highest counts on the list, have no India crash-test result at all, and nor do the Grand Vitara, Fronx or Jimny. Airbags are one layer of protection; how the body structure behaves around them is the other, and only a test measures that.

The four with a crash-test result

Maruti Victoris

The highest Bharat NCAP adult score of any SUV here at 31.66 out of 32, with 43 out of 49 for children, and it also took 5 stars at Global NCAP with 33.72 out of 34. Six airbags, front, side and curtain, on every variant, and the rating extends from the base LXI to the ZXI+ 4WD.

The 1.5-litre K15C petrol makes 75.8 kW (103.06 PS) and 139 Nm, the strong hybrid pairs a 68 kW (92.45 PS) engine with a motor, and the S-CNG makes 64.6 kW (87.8 PS). Claimed mileage is 21.18 km/l petrol manual, 21.06 km/l automatic, 19.07 km/l AllGrip, 28.65 km/l strong hybrid and 27.02 km/kg on CNG.

Level 2 assistance on the ZXI+ automatics brings autonomous emergency braking for cars, motorcycles, pedestrians and bicycles, adaptive cruise with curve speed reduction, lane keep assist, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert and a 360-degree camera with eleven views. One caveat: the S-CNG is not among the variants the 5-star rating covers.

Mahindra XUV 7XO

The best child protection score here, 44.97 out of 49, with 30.76 for adults, rated in September 2026 on the AX7 diesel automatic and AX7L 4WD. Six airbags as standard with a seventh knee airbag on the AX7 Tech and AX7 L.

The 2.0 turbo petrol makes about 203 hp and the 2.2 diesel about 185 hp with up to 450 Nm, returning roughly 13 to 17 km/l. Level 2 assistance covers adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking and drowsiness detection, with a 540-degree camera, stability control, an electronic parking brake with auto hold and hill launch control.

Maruti Brezza

Five stars both ways at 30.41 and 43, with six airbags standard across the range and the rating covering the 1.5 petrol in manual and automatic plus the 1.0 turbo manual.

The 1.5 K15C makes 75.8 kW (103.05 PS) and 139 Nm, the 1.0 K10C DiTC turbo 81 kW (110.12 PS) and 170 Nm, with claimed mileage of 20.17 to 21.09 km/l and 19.96 to 20.47 km/l respectively, and 26.90 km/kg on CNG. There is no ADAS at any price. As with the Victoris, the S-CNG sits outside the rating.

Safety kit covers blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, a safe exit warning, a 360-degree camera, stability control with hill hold, tyre pressure monitoring and ISOFIX.

Tata Harrier

Rated in December 2023 as part of the combined Safari and Harrier entry, scoring 30.08 out of 32 and 44.54 out of 49 on the tested Adventure+ variant, plus 5 stars at Global NCAP with 33.05 out of 34. Six airbags standard, seven with a driver knee airbag from the Fearless X Plus up.

Worth keeping straight: this is the petrol and diesel Harrier. The electric Harrier EV is a separate Bharat NCAP entry with a different, higher score, and the two results do not transfer between the cars.

The 2.0 Kryotec diesel makes about 168 bhp and 350 Nm, returning up to 16.8 km/l. Level 2 assistance, a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors and stability control feature on the higher trims.

The five with six airbags and no crash-test result

These are not unsafe cars. They are untested cars, which is a different thing, and the absence of a score means nobody has independently measured how the structure performs.

Skoda Kodiaq, Rs 36.99 lakh to Rs 46.99 lakh. Nine airbags as standard, the most here. All-wheel drive on every variant, a 2.0 TSI making about 204 PS and 320 Nm, and a claimed 14.86 km/l. Level 2 assistance on the Sportline and Selection L&K with adaptive cruise, front collision warning, blind spot warning, lane keep assist and rear cross-traffic alert, plus hill descent control and an electronic differential lock.

Toyota Fortuner, Rs 34.76 lakh to Rs 50.46 lakh. Seven airbags standard across the range. A 2.7 petrol with 166 PS, a 2.8 turbo diesel with 204 PS and 500 Nm, and a 48V mild-hybrid Neo Drive, with ARAI figures of 10.3 km/l petrol and 14.2 to 14.4 km/l diesel. Vehicle stability control, traction control, ABS with EBD and hill assist, and a 360-degree camera on the Neo Drive variants, but no ADAS.

Maruti Grand Vitara, Rs 10.77 lakh to Rs 19.72 lakh. Six airbags as standard, confirmed in Maruti's brochure. The 1.5 petrol makes 103.06 PS and 139 Nm and the strong hybrid 92.45 PS, with claimed mileage of 21.11 km/l manual, 20.58 km/l automatic, 19.20 km/l AllGrip and 27.97 km/l for the strong hybrid. An S-CNG is offered, though it does not appear in the brochure's specification tables. Kit includes a 360-degree camera, parking sensors at both ends, stability control with hill hold and ISOFIX.

Maruti Fronx, Rs 6.90 lakh to Rs 11.89 lakh. The cheapest six-airbag SUV here, with front, side and curtain airbags standard. The 1.2 Dual Jet makes 89.73 PS and 113 Nm, the CNG 77.5 PS, and the 1.0 Boosterjet turbo 100.06 PS and 147.6 Nm. Claimed mileage is 21.79 km/l manual, 22.89 km/l AMT, 21.5 and 20.01 km/l on the turbo, and 28.51 km/kg on CNG. Stability control and hill hold are standard, with a 360-degree camera on the higher trims.

Maruti Jimny, Rs 12.59 lakh to Rs 14.52 lakh. Six airbags standard across all variants on a proper ladder-frame 4x4. The 1.5 K15B makes 77.1 kW (104.8 PS) and 134.2 Nm, claiming 16.94 km/l manual and 16.39 km/l automatic. ALLGRIP PRO four-wheel drive with a low-range transfer gear and hill descent control, plus ABS with EBD, brake assist, hill hold and ISOFIX.

How to use the airbag count

Treat it as a floor, not a ranking. Six airbags covering front, side and curtain positions is the sensible minimum, and every SUV here clears it. Above that, a seventh is usually a driver knee airbag, and higher counts add rear side airbags, which matter most if you regularly carry rear passengers.

Then ask the two questions the count does not answer. Has the car been crash tested, and if so does the rating cover your variant and fuel? On this list the answers are no for five of the nine, and for the two rated Marutis the CNG versions fall outside the rating.
