Mid-Size SUVs With Ambient Lighting: The Trim You Need and What It Costs
The Maruti Victoris ZXi+ at Rs 15,38,900 has the most elaborate ambient lighting with a published price: 64 colours, a backlit dashboard and door spots, with leatherette and ventilated seats. The Kia Seltos HTX also has 64 colours but Kia does not publish its price. The cheapest confirmed ambient lighting is the Maruti Grand Vitara Zeta at Rs 13,85,000, with door spots, a soft-touch dashboard and ventilated seats. The Hyundai Creta SX (Rs 15,04,400) and Tata Sierra Adventure+ (Rs 16,14,000) are the other priced options.
The mid-size SUV with the most elaborate ambient lighting at a published price is the Maruti Victoris ZXi+, at Rs 15,38,900 ex-showroom: 64 colours, a backlit dashboard pattern, door spots, leatherette seats, ventilated front seats and Dolby Atmos. The Kia Seltos HTX matches the 64 colours, but Kia doesn't publish what that trim costs. If you want the cheapest confirmed way into a lit cabin, the Maruti Grand Vitara Zeta gets door-spot ambient lighting, a soft-touch dashboard and ventilated seats for Rs 13,85,000. The Hyundai Creta SX (Rs 15,04,400) and Tata Sierra Adventure+ (Rs 16,14,000) are the other priced options. Honda, Volkswagen and Toyota fit ambient lighting too, but they don't publish the price of the trim that carries it.
The badge tells you almost nothing. In every car below, ambient lighting is a trim-level feature, and "ambient lighting" covers everything from one amber strip to a 64-colour system. So this list goes trim by trim, using each maker's own brochure feature grid.
Ambient lighting by model, with the trim that first gets it
| SUV | First trim with ambient lighting | Price of that trim | What the lighting is | Other cabin kit on that trim |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maruti Victoris | ZXi+ (5MT) | Rs 15,38,900 | 64-colour: backlit dashboard pattern, door spots | Leatherette seats, ventilated front seats, head-up display, Dolby Atmos |
| Kia Seltos | HTX | Not published by Kia | 64-colour mood lighting, leatherette door trims | Ventilated front seats, 8-speaker Bose, 12.3-inch touchscreen |
| Maruti Grand Vitara | Zeta (5MT) | Rs 13,85,000 | Door spots; Alpha adds a dashboard line | Soft-touch dashboard, ventilated seats, wireless charger, Clarion audio |
| Hyundai Creta | SX (MT) | Rs 15,04,400 | Single colour, "soothing amber" | Leatherette steering wheel |
| Tata Sierra | Adventure+ (petrol MT) | Rs 16,14,000 | Dashboard mood lights; centre console added on Accomplished | Panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate, 12.3-inch touchscreen |
| Honda Elevate | VX | Not published by Honda | Active Orange on dashboard, all four doors, footwell | Leather steering wheel, 6 speakers |
| Volkswagen Taigun | Highline | Not published by Volkswagen | White dashboard lights; red on GT trims | 8-speed automatic available |
| Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder | G(O) petrol | Not published by Toyota | Door spots; hybrid G(O) and V add a dashboard line | 9-inch touchscreen, premium audio |
| Maruti e Vitara | Not stated in the grid | From Rs 16,19,000 | "Multi colour illumination", trim not specified | Soft-touch dual-tone cabin on every trim |
Prices are ex-showroom, checked October 2026 on each maker's own price page or price feed. Maruti prices are single-tone paint. On the Victoris ZXi and above and the Grand Vitara Zeta and above, dual-tone paint adds Rs 15,400 (so the ZXi+ is Rs 15,54,300 in dual tone). "Not published" means the maker shows only a starting price for the model, not the price of the trim in question.
The picks, trim by trim
1. Maruti Victoris ZXi+: the most complete lit cabin with a price on it
Maruti's feature grid has a row called "64 Color Custom Ambient Light", and it is blank for the LXi, VXi and ZXi. On the ZXi+ and ZXi+ (O) it lights up the instrument panel as a backlit pattern and adds door spots. The ZXi gets the soft-touch dashboard with premium stitching and the 26.03 cm digital cluster, but not the lights.
What makes the ZXi+ the pick is what comes with the lighting. Plush leatherette seats and a leatherette steering wheel arrive on the same trim, along with ventilated front seats, an 8-way powered driver's seat, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera with 11 views and the 25.65 cm SmartPlay Pro X screen. The audio is an 8-speaker Infinity by Harman system with a centre speaker and subwoofer, and it is the only Maruti with Dolby Atmos. The panoramic sunroof needs the (O) version, Rs 15,48,000 for the manual.
The strong-hybrid versions swap the black and ivory cabin for all-black with champagne gold accents. The ZXi+ strong hybrid costs Rs 19,51,900 and returns 28.65 km/l, against 21.18 km/l for the petrol manual.
There are two drawbacks. You can't get the lights for less than Rs 15,38,900. And if you want an automatic with them, the ZXi+ 6AT is Rs 17,33,900, a big step from the manual. Bharat NCAP gave the Victoris 5 stars, with 31.66 out of 32 for adults and 43 out of 49 for children, but the rating does not extend to the S-CNG, and the S-CNG stops at the ZXi in any case.
2. Kia Seltos HTX: 64 colours too, at an unpublished price
Kia's brochure puts "64 Color Ambient Mood Lighting" and leatherette front door trims on the HTX, along with ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, an 8-speaker Bose system and the 12.3-inch touchscreen. On paper that is a close match for the Victoris ZXi+, and the Seltos is the longer car, with a 447-litre boot.
The problem is the price. Kia's site shows Rs 11,24,900 for the base HTE and Rs 21,56,900 for the X-Line (O), and nothing in between, so we can't tell you what the HTX costs. Get a dealer quote before you compare it with the Victoris. The Seltos holds the best Bharat NCAP adult score of this group: 31.70 out of 32, and 45 out of 49 for children.
3. Maruti Grand Vitara Zeta: the cheapest confirmed ambient lighting
The Grand Vitara's grid gives "Ambient Lighting" as "Spot Door" on the Zeta and Zeta+, and "IP + Spot Door" on the Alpha and Alpha+. So the cheapest way in is the Zeta manual at Rs 13,85,000, and the dashboard line costs you the Alpha at Rs 15,34,700.
The Zeta is generous for the money. It gets the soft-touch dashboard with premium stitching, ventilated front seats, a wireless charger, the 22.86 cm SmartPlay Pro+ screen and the Clarion premium sound system. The Alpha adds the head-up display, the 360-degree camera, an 8-way powered driver's seat and Bordeaux leatherette seats. The strong-hybrid Zeta+ (Rs 17,96,600) has the door spots, and the Alpha+ (Rs 19,55,200) has the full set with black leatherette.
The catch is the lighting itself. Maruti gives no colour count for the Grand Vitara, and door spots are a much smaller effect than the Victoris's lit dashboard. The entry strong hybrid, the Delta+, has none. The Grand Vitara also has no Bharat NCAP result yet. Mileage is 21.11 km/l (manual), 20.58 km/l (automatic) and 27.97 km/l (strong hybrid).
4. Tata Sierra Adventure+: the lights plus a panoramic roof
Tata lists "Mood Lights (Dashboard)" from the Adventure+, priced at Rs 16,14,000 for the petrol manual, and that trim also brings the Panoramax voice-assisted panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital cockpit and dual-zone climate control. The Accomplished, at Rs 17,99,000, adds centre-console mood lights, a head-up display, Level 2 ADAS and a 12-speaker JBL system with Dolby Atmos.
Tata's price page shows one price per trim, for the base gearbox, so automatic Sierra prices aren't published there. Bharat NCAP rates it 5 stars: 31.14 out of 32 for adults, 44.73 out of 49 for children.
5. Hyundai Creta SX: one colour, but a published price
Hyundai's grid gives the Creta "soothing amber" ambient lighting from the SX, Rs 15,04,400 with the manual, and keeps a "moon white" version for the Lounge edition. The SX also gets the leatherette steering wheel. The SX Premium, at Rs 16,34,200, adds an 8-way electric driver's seat and leatherette door armrests.
If you want the lights with an automatic, that's where the Creta gets expensive. Hyundai's list has no SX IVT, so the cheapest automatic with ambient lighting is the SX Premium IVT at Rs 17,78,700. Hyundai prints no certified mileage, and the Creta has no Bharat NCAP result.
6. Honda Elevate VX: more lighting than the price suggests
The Elevate's grid is specific. From the VX up, Honda fits Active Orange ambient lighting to the instrument panel, all four door linings, the front footwells and the centre console pocket, plus LED lights in the door pockets. That is more lit surface than the Creta or the Grand Vitara Zeta. The ZX adds leather seats and soft-touch leatherette pads on the dashboard and doors, and goes from six speakers to eight.
Honda's site shows a starting price of Rs 11,80,000 and quotes the rest by city, so the VX's price is a dealer question. Mileage is 15.31 km/l (manual) and 16.61 km/l (CVT), the lowest here.
7. Volkswagen Taigun Highline: subtle, and white
Every Taigun gets an "ambient light pack", but read the small print: it is LEDs for the door switches and the reading lamps. The white dashboard lighting starts on the Highline and carries to the Highline Plus and Topline, while the GT Line and GT Plus get laser red instead. Ventilated front seats and the panoramic sunroof are Topline and GT Plus features. Volkswagen shows only a starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh, for the Comfortline, so the Highline's price isn't published.
8. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder G(O): door spots, no price
Toyota's grid gives the Hyryder door-spot ambient lighting on the G(O) petrol, and door spots plus a dashboard line on the strong-hybrid G(O) and V, much like the Grand Vitara it is built alongside. We could not read a Toyota price for any Hyryder variant, so it can't be compared on value here, and it has no Bharat NCAP result.
9. Maruti e Vitara: lit, but the brochure won't say on which trim
The e Vitara brochure shows "ambient lighting with multi colour illumination" on its interior page, but the variant grid at the back has no ambient lighting row. We can't tell you whether the Delta (Rs 16,19,000), Zeta (Rs 17,94,000) or only the Alpha (Rs 19,99,000) has it, so check the car at the showroom.
What the grid does confirm: every trim has the soft-touch dual-tone interior and the integrated 25.65 cm plus 26.04 cm display. The Alpha alone gets ventilated seats, a 10-way powered driver's seat, the fixed-glass sunroof, Infinity audio with a subwoofer, the 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS. Range is 440 km (49 kWh) or 543 km (61 kWh). Bharat NCAP: 31.49 out of 32 and 43 out of 49, with seven airbags on every trim.
Which one to buy
If you want the lights to be part of a properly upmarket cabin, and you want to know the price before you go to a showroom, the Victoris ZXi+ is the clear choice. It is the only car here where 64-colour lighting, leatherette, ventilated seats and a head-up display come together on a trim with a published price.
On a tighter budget, the Grand Vitara Zeta is Rs 1,53,900 cheaper and keeps the soft-touch dashboard and ventilated seats. You give up the coloured, dashboard-wide effect.
If crash scores matter as much as the cabin, the Seltos HTX is worth chasing a quote for. The Sierra Adventure+ is the pick if you want the panoramic roof as part of the deal.
For the wider segment ranking, see our best mid-size SUVs in India. If the sunroof matters more than the lights, there's a separate list of mid-size SUVs with a sunroof under Rs 15 lakh. Ambient lighting usually arrives on the same trim as a wireless charger, which we cover in mid-size SUVs with wireless charging under Rs 15 lakh.
How this list was built
We took the mid-size SUVs on sale with a readable manufacturer brochure, found the ambient lighting row in each feature grid, and priced the first trim that has it from the maker's own price page or price feed, checked October 2026. Maruti prices come from Maruti's ex-showroom price feed and match the Arena and NEXA price pages. We quote single tone because rivals' prices are single tone.
What we could not verify, and so did not print:
- trim prices for the Seltos, Elevate, Taigun and Hyryder, because their makers publish only a starting price or no price at all
- which e Vitara trim has ambient lighting
- the colour count on the Grand Vitara and Hyryder
- the Skoda Kushaq, whose brochure sits behind a request form
- the Renault Duster's 48-colour ambient lighting, which its brochure describes without saying which trim gets it
The MG Astor is left out because it has been discontinued. Nothing here is based on seeing the lights at night. Materials and lighting brightness are worth judging in person.
