Under Rs 20 lakh ex-showroom, the mid-size SUVs to shortlist are the Maruti Victoris, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos and Tata Sierra, and the Victoris gets the most from the budget. Its entire 21-variant range fits under the ceiling, from Rs 10,49,900 to Rs 19,98,900, and that range includes a 28.65 km/l strong hybrid from Rs 16,42,900 and Level 2 ADAS from Rs 17,33,900, backed by a 5-star Bharat NCAP score of 31.66 out of 32.

The Creta is the best alternative if you want a diesel or a full published price list: all but two of its variants are under Rs 20 lakh, starting at Rs 10,90,700. The Grand Vitara's whole range also fits, topping out at Rs 19.77 lakh. The Seltos and Sierra both start under Rs 12 lakh but run past the ceiling at the top.

We have organised this by what each slice of the budget buys, variant by variant, where the manufacturer publishes variant prices. For one recommended trim per model, see our list of value-for-money SUVs under Rs 20 lakh.

Prices are ex-showroom from each manufacturer's site, checked on 13 October 2026. Maruti Victoris prices are for single-tone paint. Dual-tone paint adds Rs 15,400 on the ZXI and above, except on the ZXI+ (O) Strong Hybrid, which is Rs 19,98,900 in either finish. Toyota publishes no ex-showroom prices and Honda quotes beyond the starting price by city.

What each budget buys

Rs 10.5 lakh to Rs 12 lakh: the base cars

Every car on the list has an entry variant here. The useful ones:

  • Victoris LXI petrol manual, Rs 10,49,900. Six airbags, stability control, hill hold, a 7-inch touchscreen and push-button start, with the 103.06 PS petrol at 21.18 km/l. Halogen headlamps and steel wheels give the price away.
  • Victoris LXI S-CNG, Rs 11,54,900. The cheapest factory-CNG mid-size SUV with a published price, at 27.02 km/kg. Note that the Bharat NCAP rating does not extend to the CNG variants.
  • Victoris VXI petrol manual, Rs 11,84,900. Adds cruise control and a reversing camera. This is the sensible floor for the Victoris.
  • Creta E petrol manual, Rs 10,90,700. A 115 PS petrol with six airbags and stability control.
  • Grand Vitara Sigma, from Rs 10.77 lakh. The base Grand Vitara, manual only.

The Duster (Rs 10,49,000), Kushaq (Rs 10,69,000), Taigun (Rs 10,99,900), Seltos HTE (Rs 11,24,900), Sierra Smart+ (Rs 11.49 lakh) and Elevate (Rs 11,80,000) all open in this band too.

Rs 12 lakh to Rs 14 lakh: the first automatic and the first sunroof

  • Creta EX petrol, Rs 12,06,700, and Creta E diesel, Rs 12,52,800, the cheapest diesel we could price.
  • Victoris VXI S-CNG, Rs 12,89,900.
  • Creta EX(O) petrol manual, Rs 13,14,200. The first Creta with the panoramic sunroof.
  • Victoris VXI automatic, Rs 13,40,900. The 6-speed automatic costs Rs 1,56,000 over the VXI manual and brings an electronic parking brake and paddle shifters.
  • Victoris ZXI manual, Rs 13,61,900, and ZXI (O), Rs 13,69,000. LED headlamps, alloy wheels and a wireless charger, and for Rs 7,100 more the (O) adds a panoramic sunroof. That is a small step for a sunroof.

Rs 14 lakh to Rs 16 lakh: the well-equipped petrols

  • Creta EX(O) IVT, Rs 14,49,700. The cheapest Creta automatic, with the sunroof.
  • Victoris ZXI S-CNG, Rs 14,66,900. The best-equipped CNG, since there is no ZXI+ CNG.
  • Creta SX petrol manual, Rs 15,04,400.
  • Victoris ZXI automatic, Rs 15,17,900, or Rs 15,25,000 with the sunroof.
  • Victoris ZXI+ manual, Rs 15,38,900, and ZXI+ (O), Rs 15,48,000. This is the trim where the Victoris gets ventilated front seats, a head-up display, an 8-way powered driver's seat, the 360-degree camera and the 10.1-inch touchscreen. If you are happy with a manual, it is the value point of the range.
  • Creta S(O) IVT, Rs 15,65,700.

Rs 16 lakh to Rs 18 lakh: hybrid or ADAS, not both

This is the band where the Victoris forces a choice.

  • Victoris VXI strong hybrid, Rs 16,42,900. The cheapest strong hybrid with a published price: 28.65 km/l and an e-CVT, at VXI equipment. It costs Rs 3,02,000 more than the VXI petrol automatic.
  • Victoris ZXI+ automatic with ADAS, Rs 17,33,900, or Rs 17,43,000 with the sunroof. Level 2 ADAS with adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, advanced emergency braking, blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert, on top of the ZXI+ kit. It is Rs 1,95,000 over the ZXI+ manual.
  • Creta King petrol manual, Rs 17,27,800. The cheapest Creta with SmartSense Level 2 ADAS. Smart cruise control needs an automatic.
  • Creta SX Premium IVT, Rs 17,78,700, with the surround view monitor.
  • Victoris ZXI strong hybrid, Rs 17,84,900. The hybrid in ZXI trim, Rs 1,42,000 over the VXI hybrid.
  • Sierra Accomplished, from Rs 17.99 lakh, the first Sierra with Level 2 ADAS according to Tata's price page.

Maruti does not fit ADAS to any strong hybrid Victoris. If you want both low fuel bills and driver assistance in one car at this price, none of the Marutis provides it.

Rs 18 lakh to Rs 20 lakh: top trims

  • Victoris ZXI (O) strong hybrid, Rs 18,43,900, the ZXI hybrid with the panoramic sunroof.
  • Creta King IVT, Rs 18,68,800.
  • Victoris ZXI+ AllGrip Select, Rs 18,68,900, or Rs 19,26,900 as the (O). All-wheel drive with terrain modes and hill descent control, at 19.07 km/l.
  • Victoris ZXI+ strong hybrid, Rs 19,51,900, and ZXI+ (O), Rs 19,98,900. The top Victoris clears the ceiling by Rs 1,100.
  • Grand Vitara Alpha+ (O) strong hybrid, Rs 19,72,400, with dual-tone paint taking the range to Rs 19.77 lakh.
  • Creta King turbo DCT, Rs 19,91,300. The 160 PS engine, just inside the budget. Its dual-tone version, at Rs 20,06,300, is not.

The Grand Vitara is harder to recommend at the same money. NEXA shows its price only as a range, so we cannot say what a mid-range Zeta costs, it has no ADAS and it has no Bharat NCAP result. Its case rests on NEXA dealer pricing and on trim: ventilated seats arrive lower in its range, on the Zeta.

Rivals worth a test drive

The Kia Seltos has the best Bharat NCAP adult score of the group at 31.70 out of 32 and is the longest at 4,460 mm, with petrol, turbo petrol and diesel engines. Kia's site gives only the HTE and X-Line (O) prices, so check which trims fall under Rs 20 lakh with a dealer.

The Tata Sierra (31.14 out of 32) offers petrol, turbo petrol and diesel, with ADAS from Rs 17.99 lakh.

The Renault Duster (30.49 out of 32) has a 163 PS, 280 Nm turbo petrol and 212 mm of ground clearance. The Honda Elevate is a 121 PS petrol with a CVT at 16.61 km/l and Honda Sensing from the ZX. The Volkswagen Taigun is certified at up to 19.98 km/l and offers a 150 PS 1.5 TSI. The Toyota Hyryder mirrors the Grand Vitara's powertrains but has no published price.

How this list was built

The ceiling is Rs 20,00,000 ex-showroom. A car is counted only if the manufacturer's own site shows a variant below that. Victoris prices are the 21 variant prices on Maruti's Arena price page, Creta prices are from Hyundai's price list, and features by trim are from the Victoris, Grand Vitara and Creta brochures.

Not verified: per-variant prices for the Grand Vitara, Seltos, Sierra, Duster, Kushaq, Taigun and Elevate, which is why those cars appear in the bands only at their starting price. Ground clearance and boot volume for the Victoris and Grand Vitara are not in Maruti's brochures and are not quoted. Certified mileage is not published for the Creta or Seltos. The Tata Curvv and MG Astor are omitted because we could not read current prices from their makers' sites.

On-road prices add registration, insurance and road tax, so a variant close to the ceiling will cost more than Rs 20 lakh on the road.
