Mid-Size SUVs With an Auto-Dimming IRVM: Cheapest Variant by Powertrain

Mid-Size SUVs With an Auto-Dimming IRVM: Cheapest Variant by Powertrain

The Maruti Victoris ZXi manual at Rs 13,61,900 is the cheapest mid-size SUV with an auto-dimming IRVM, ahead of the Grand Vitara Zeta at Rs 13,85,000 and the Volkswagen Taigun Highline Plus at Rs 14,41,900. For CNG the Grand Vitara Zeta CNG (Rs 14,65,000) and Victoris ZXi CNG (Rs 14,66,900) are Rs 1,900 apart. Strong hybrid buyers pay most: the cheapest hybrids lack the mirror, so it starts at Rs 17,84,900 on the Victoris ZXi and Rs 17,96,600 on the Grand Vitara Zeta+. The Hyundai Creta reserves it for the King trim at Rs 17,27,800.

The cheapest mid-size SUV with an auto-dimming IRVM is the Maruti Victoris ZXi manual at Rs 13,61,900, followed by the Maruti Grand Vitara Zeta manual at Rs 13,85,000 and the Volkswagen Taigun Highline Plus at Rs 14,41,900. The Hyundai Creta wants Rs 17,27,800 for the same part on its King trim. The ranking changes once you fix the powertrain, though. The Grand Vitara Zeta CNG (Rs 14,65,000) undercuts the Victoris ZXi CNG by Rs 1,900, and if you want a strong hybrid neither Maruti gives you the mirror on its cheapest hybrid: you pay Rs 17,84,900 for a Victoris ZXi or Rs 17,96,600 for a Grand Vitara Zeta+. All prices are ex-showroom, single tone, checked October 2026.

Our list of SUVs with an auto-dimming IRVM ranks every SUV size by the cheapest variant with the mirror. This piece narrows it to mid-size SUVs and asks a more practical question: once you have picked petrol, automatic, CNG or hybrid, which variant is the first one with an electrochromic mirror, and what does it cost?

The cheapest variant with the mirror, by powertrain

Every price below is the single-tone ex-showroom price of the cheapest variant whose maker's own feature grid marks the inside mirror as auto-dimming (Maruti calls it "Auto", Hyundai "Electro chromic mirror", Toyota "EC IRVM" or "Auto", Kia "Auto Anti-Glare", Volkswagen "Auto-dimming interior rearview mirror").

Toyota, Honda, Kia and MG fit the mirror too, but none of them gave us a variant price we could read on their own sites, so they sit in a separate section below rather than in the ranking.

Why the powertrain matters more than the badge

The mirror is tied to a trim, and makers do not offer every engine on every trim. That is where the surprises come from.

Strong hybrid buyers pay the most for it

This is the clearest case. The cheapest strong hybrid in each Maruti line-up goes without the mirror:

  • The Victoris VXi strong hybrid costs Rs 16,42,900 and the brochure marks its mirror "Manual". The ZXi strong hybrid at Rs 17,84,900 is the first with "Auto", a Rs 1,42,000 step.
  • The Grand Vitara Delta+ costs Rs 16,68,300 and also reads "Manual". The Zeta+ at Rs 17,96,600 is the first Grand Vitara hybrid with the mirror, a Rs 1,28,300 step.
  • Toyota's Hyryder follows the same pattern. Its hybrid grid reads Manual on the S and Auto on the G(O) and V.

So a hybrid buyer who wants the mirror is really buying a mid or upper trim. On the Grand Vitara you still do not get the head-up display at that point; the brochure keeps it for the Alpha+.

CNG buyers get it cheaply, with one caveat

The Victoris brochure offers CNG on the LXi, VXi and ZXi, and the ZXi column reads "Auto". So the Victoris ZXi CNG at Rs 14,66,900 has the mirror, and it is the top CNG Victoris.

The Grand Vitara Zeta CNG is Rs 1,900 cheaper at Rs 14,65,000, but here we have to be careful. The Grand Vitara brochure covers only petrol and strong hybrid, with no CNG column at all; the CNG variants appear on NEXA's price page, not in the brochure. We have assumed the Zeta CNG carries the Zeta's equipment, including the "Auto" mirror, and a dealer should confirm it on the car before you book.

Toyota's Hyryder is the third CNG option. Its grid lists the mirror as Manual on the S CNG and Auto on the G CNG.

One more CNG point. Bharat NCAP's applicability grid for the Victoris lists the 1.5 manual, 1.5 automatic and strong hybrid, and no CNG variant, so its 31.66 out of 32 adult score does not cover the ZXi CNG.

Automatic buyers: Maruti first, then a jump

The Victoris ZXi 6AT (Rs 15,17,900) and Grand Vitara Zeta AT (Rs 15,20,000) sit Rs 2,100 apart. The Victoris VXi 6AT at Rs 13,40,900 is cheaper still, but its mirror is manual. Volkswagen's Taigun Highline Plus 1.0 TSI AT follows at Rs 15,56,900. Hyundai's cheapest automatic with the electrochromic mirror is the Creta King IVT at Rs 18,68,800, Rs 3,50,900 more than the Victoris.

SUV by SUV

Maruti Victoris

The grid is clean: LXi and VXi read Manual, ZXi/ZXi (O) and ZXi+/ZXi+ (O) read Auto. Every ZXi and ZXi+ gets the mirror whichever engine you choose, including the CNG and the strong hybrid. Level 2 ADAS is a separate decision; it is on the ZXi+ 6AT at Rs 17,33,900 and the brochure does not list it on the strong hybrid. The weak point is the hybrid price above, and the range tops out at Rs 19,98,900 for the ZXi+ (O) strong hybrid.

Maruti Grand Vitara

Seven columns, and the mirror reads Manual, Manual, Auto, Auto across Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha, then Manual, Auto, Auto across the Delta+, Zeta+ and Alpha+ strong hybrids. Zeta manual is Rs 13,85,000 and the top Alpha+ (O) strong hybrid is Rs 19,62,000 in single tone; NEXA's header of Rs 19.77 lakh is the dual-tone price, Rs 15,400 more. The Grand Vitara has no ADAS on any trim, so the mirror and the 360-degree camera are about as far as its driver aids go.

Volkswagen Taigun

Volkswagen's grid marks a manual-dimming mirror on the Comfortline and Highline and an auto-dimming mirror on everything from the Highline Plus up, including the GT Line and both GT Plus versions. The Highline Plus 1.0 TSI manual is Rs 14,41,900 and the automatic Rs 15,56,900. That makes it the cheapest non-Maruti mid-size SUV with the mirror in our ranking, and the only one here where the qualifying variant is a turbo petrol.

Hyundai Creta

Hyundai's grid splits the mirror three ways across ten variants: a plain day and night mirror on E, EX, EX(O), S(O) and S(O) Knight, the same with telematics switches on SX and SX Premium, and the electrochromic mirror only on King, King Knight and the Lounge Edition. The cheapest is the King 1.5 MPi manual at Rs 17,27,800. A Creta SX Premium at Rs 16,34,200 still has the flip-tab mirror. The Creta is the only car here that gives you the mirror with a diesel, from Rs 18,85,800 for the King diesel manual.

The Seltos is worth a note on safety: Bharat NCAP rated it 31.70 out of 32 for adult protection in March 2026.

How this list was built, and what was not verified

For each SUV we opened the maker's own brochure or feature grid, found the inside mirror row and took the first column marked auto-dimming. Brochures used: Maruti's Victoris (August 2026) and Grand Vitara (June 2026), Hyundai's Creta (September 2026), Kia's Seltos (October 2026), Honda's Elevate (October 2026), Toyota's Hyryder specification sheet (May 2026), Volkswagen's Taigun (April 2026) and MG's Astor (June 2026).

Maruti prices come from Maruti's own ex-showroom price feed and NEXA's rendered price page, using the metallic (single-tone) figure. Hyundai and Volkswagen prices come from their own price pages. All were read in October 2026.

What we could not check:

  • The Grand Vitara Zeta CNG's mirror, because the Grand Vitara brochure has no CNG column. We assumed Zeta equipment.
  • The Skoda Kushaq. Skoda's brochure sits behind a download form and we could not open a Kushaq variant grid, so we left it out rather than assume it matches its Volkswagen twin.
  • Variant prices for Toyota, Kia, Honda and MG, as set out above.
  • How well any of these mirrors dims. A grid says the part is fitted; it says nothing about how quickly it reacts.

What we would buy

If the mirror matters and you are flexible on engine, the Victoris ZXi manual is the cheapest way in at Rs 13,61,900, and the Grand Vitara Zeta at Rs 13,85,000 is close enough that the choice comes down to which cabin you prefer. For a CNG car the two Marutis are within Rs 1,900 of each other, though only the Victoris brochure confirms the mirror on the CNG variant. Hybrid buyers have the hardest time: the mirror pushes both Marutis close to Rs 18 lakh, and at that money it is worth checking our list of mid-size SUVs with the lowest running cost to see whether the hybrid's fuel savings justify it. If you want ADAS as well, our mid-size SUVs with ADAS under Rs 20 lakh list covers the trims where both arrive together.
