Premium MPVs With Captain Seats Under Rs 15 Lakh: The XL6, Variant by Variant
The XL6 is the only captain-seat MPV under Rs 15 lakh, and every variant has the same second row. The Alpha manual at Rs 12,58,800 is the value pick, adding a 360 view camera, tyre pressure monitoring and wireless phone projection for Rs 96,500 over the Zeta. No XL6 has a sunroof or ADAS. The Kia Carens Clavis has captain seats only on the HTX+ DCT near the top of a range ending at Rs 21.79 lakh, and the Invicto starts at Rs 25.02 lakh.
Only one MPV in India has factory captain seats under Rs 15 lakh: the Maruti Suzuki XL6, at Rs 11.62 lakh to Rs 14.68 lakh ex-showroom. All seven of its variants have them, so the real question at this budget is which XL6 to buy. The Zeta manual at Rs 11,62,300 is the cheapest way in, the Alpha at Rs 12,58,800 is where the premium equipment starts, and the Alpha Plus automatic at Rs 14,67,500 is the only one with ventilated front seats.
Everything else with captain seats costs more. The petrol Kia Carens Clavis has them on one variant near the top of a range that ends at Rs 21.79 lakh, and the Maruti Suzuki Invicto starts at Rs 25.02 lakh. The other MPVs under Rs 15 lakh (Ertiga, Rumion, Triber and the lower Clavis trims) use a bench in the middle row.
Key takeaways
- The XL6 brochure ticks "2nd row plush captain seats with one-touch recline and slide" and individual armrests for the Zeta, Alpha and Alpha Plus alike. You do not pay extra for the seats.
- The whole XL6 range fits under Rs 15 lakh ex-showroom. The most expensive variant, the Alpha Plus automatic in dual tone, is Rs 14,67,500.
- The Alpha costs Rs 96,500 more than the Zeta and adds the 360 view camera, tyre pressure monitoring, leatherette seats and wireless phone projection.
- The automatic costs Rs 1,35,000 over the manual on both the Zeta and the Alpha.
- No XL6 has a sunroof or ADAS. If those define "premium" for you, this budget does not reach them with captain seats.

Maruti prices are the variant prices on the NEXA and Arena sites on 13 October 2026. Kia figures are the starting and top prices in the FAQ on Kia's own site, which does not list variant prices in a form we could read. Seating layouts are from each maker's brochure.
What you get in every XL6
The XL6 is a six-seater only. Maruti's specification table gives a seating capacity of 6 for both petrol and CNG, in a 2+2+2 layout.
The second-row seats slide and recline with one touch and have their own armrests. The gap between them is the walkway to the third row, which splits 50:50, reclines and folds flat. Rows two and three each get adjustable headrests and a pair of 60 W Type-C chargers, the second row has roof vents, and the third row has its own AC with stage control.
Safety equipment does not change with the trim: six airbags, ESP with hill hold, ABS with EBD and brake assist, ISOFIX anchors on the second-row seats, seat belt reminders for all occupants and reverse parking sensors. Cruise control, automatic front AC, push-button start and 16-inch alloy wheels are standard as well.
The engine is the 1,462 cc K15C Smart Hybrid with 75.8 kW (103.06 PS) and 139 Nm. Certified efficiency is 20.90 km/l with the 5-speed manual and 20.27 km/l with the 6-speed automatic. The CNG makes 87.8 PS and 121.5 Nm in CNG mode and returns 26.23 km/kg.

|---|---|---|---|
| Zeta | 5MT | Rs 11,62,300 | Base |
| Alpha | 5MT | Rs 12,58,800 | Rs 96,500 over Zeta MT |
| Zeta CNG | 5MT | Rs 12,60,800 | Rs 98,500 over Zeta MT |
| Zeta AT | 6AT | Rs 12,97,300 | Rs 1,35,000 over Zeta MT |
| Alpha Plus (dual tone) | 5MT | Rs 13,32,500 | Rs 73,700 over Alpha MT |

| Alpha Plus AT (dual tone) | 6AT | Rs 14,67,500 | Rs 73,700 over Alpha AT |
The NEXA page shows the Alpha Plus cards in dual tone, which is an option on that trim. We did not find a separate single-tone Alpha Plus price on the page.
Zeta: the captain seats for the least money
At Rs 11,62,300 the Zeta has the full seating package and the full safety list. What it lacks is the showroom polish. The touchscreen is the 17.78 cm SmartPlay Studio unit with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, there is a rear camera in place of a 360 view, and the seats are fabric. The brochure also marks auto headlamps, the leather-wrapped steering wheel, the PM2.5 filter and tyre pressure monitoring as not available.
For a family that wants the layout and will not miss the gadgets, this is the value pick. It also leaves the most room under Rs 15 lakh for on-road costs, which is worth remembering because registration and insurance will push the upper variants past that figure in most cities.
Zeta CNG: the only CNG with captain seats
The CNG comes in Zeta trim only, with the manual gearbox, at Rs 12,60,800. It is Rs 98,500 more than the petrol Zeta.
It gives up some things. Output drops to 64.6 kW (87.8 PS) on gas, kerb weight rises from 1,220 kg to 1,295 kg, and the brochure marks idle start stop, brake energy regeneration and torque assist as not fitted. The split luggage board is listed as "except CNG" too, since the 60-litre (water equivalent) cylinder lives in the boot. For high monthly mileage it is still the cheapest captain-seat car to run, which we worked through in the running cost comparison.
Alpha: where it starts to feel premium
The Alpha is the one we would point most buyers to. For Rs 96,500 over the Zeta the brochure adds:
- 360 view camera, replacing the rear camera
- Tyre pressure monitoring system
- SmartPlay Pro touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an onboard voice assistant and Arkamys surround sound
- Premium leatherette seats and a leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel
- Auto headlamps with follow-me-home, an IR-cut windshield and UV-cut side glass
- PM2.5 cabin filter and gloss black B and C pillars
That is most of what separates a "premium" MPV from a people carrier, and the manual Alpha at Rs 12,58,800 is still Rs 2.4 lakh inside the ceiling. The Alpha automatic is Rs 13,93,800.
Alpha Plus: ventilated seats and little else
The Alpha Plus is Rs 73,700 more than the Alpha with either gearbox. Reading the feature grid column by column, the additions are ventilated front seats, the dual tone paint option with gloss black mirrors, and a chrome element on the fender garnish. That is a short list for the money. In a hot city the ventilated seats may be worth it on their own. They cool the driver and front passenger only, though, and the captain seats in the second row are not ventilated on any variant.
What premium does not include here
The XL6 is sold through NEXA and trimmed accordingly, but the spec sheet has hard limits:
- No sunroof on any variant.
- No ADAS on any variant.
- Rear drum brakes, where the Carens Clavis has discs on all four wheels.
- 103.06 PS for a six-seat car. It is adequate, and it is the same output as the cheaper Ertiga.
- Maruti's brochure prints no boot volume, so we cannot tell you how much luggage fits behind the third row.
The Ertiga comparison is worth a moment, because the two share a platform and engine. The Ertiga's top ZXi+ automatic is Rs 13,14,100 and seats seven on a bench. The XL6 Alpha automatic is Rs 13,93,800. So the captain seats, the 360 view camera and the NEXA trim cost roughly Rs 80,000 over the best Ertiga, and you lose a seat.
The nearest options above the budget
Kia Carens Clavis. Kia's brochure gives a seating plan of 7 for every trim except the HTX+, which is "6/7", and marks the HTX+ manual and iMT as seven-seat only. Captain seats therefore mean the HTX+ with the 117.6 kW (160 PS) turbo-petrol and 7-speed DCT. It brings a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360 degree camera and Level 2 ADAS, which is everything the XL6 lacks. Kia's site puts the range at Rs 11,38,900 to Rs 21,78,900 with the GTX+ at the top and the HTX+ one step below it. The Clavis variants that do fall under Rs 15 lakh are bench-seat seven-seaters.
Kia Carens Clavis EV. Captain seats from the HTX E upward. The range starts at Rs 18,03,900 for the HTK+, which is the one variant without them.
Maruti Suzuki Invicto. The strong hybrid has captain seats with a side table on both seven-seat variants: the Zeta Plus 7S at Rs 25,02,400 and the Alpha Plus 7S at Rs 28,70,500. That is Rs 10 lakh over this budget before you start.
We compared these higher budgets in the live under Rs 20 lakh and under Rs 25 lakh captain-seat guides.
How this was checked
Features by variant were read from the feature grid in the NEXA XL6 brochure, tick by tick, and the Invicto, Clavis and Clavis EV layouts from their own brochures. XL6, Invicto and Ertiga prices are the variant prices on Maruti's sites on 13 October 2026. All prices are ex-showroom, so on-road totals will be higher and vary by state.
Not verified: the price of the six-seat Clavis HTX+ DCT and of individual Clavis EV variants, because Kia's site gave us only range figures, and any single-tone price for the XL6 Alpha Plus. We did not drive the cars or measure the seats.
