Most Powerful Turbo-Petrol SUVs Under Rs 15 Lakh in India, Ranked by Brochure Output (2026)
Base trims of bigger SUVs now bring 2.0-litre turbo petrols under Rs 15 lakh, so the XUV 7XO AX and Scorpio-N Z2 top the ranking at about 203 PS. The XUV 3XO TGDi (96 kW, 230 Nm, from Rs 12,02,500) leads the compact class, with the Venue, Syros, Nexon and Sonet at about 120 PS. The Maruti Brezza Turbo ranks tenth at 110.12 PS and the Fronx Turbo eleventh at 100.06 PS. The Duster TCe 160, Seltos turbo and Creta turbo miss the ceiling. Tata and Citroen prices could not be verified.
The most powerful turbo-petrol SUV under Rs 15 lakh is the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX at 149.2 kW (about 202.9 PS) and 380 Nm for Rs 13,99,000, with the Mahindra Scorpio-N Z2 a rounding error behind at 149.14 kW and 370 Nm for Rs 13,69,000. Third is the Nissan Tekton T280 at 163 PS and 280 Nm, which squeezes in at Rs 14,99,000, and fourth the Mahindra Thar Roxx MX1 at 119 kW (about 161.8 PS) and 330 Nm for Rs 12,52,000. The usual answer, the Mahindra XUV 3XO TGDi at 96 kW, is the strongest sub-4-metre SUV but only sixth overall.
Most lists stop at compact SUVs and so miss that base trims of bigger SUVs now undercut Rs 15 lakh with 2.0-litre turbo engines. This ranking counts any SUV, and it prices the turbo variant itself. Maruti's two turbo SUVs, the Brezza and the Fronx, sit in the lower half on power, and we have ranked them there.

How to read the units
PS and bhp are different units, and kW is the one every brochure agrees on. Maruti, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Nissan, Renault and MG print PS; Mahindra, Tata and Kia (for the Sonet) print kW only. Where the brochure gives both, the table shows both exactly as printed, which is why the Brezza reads 110.12 PS and the Fronx 100.06 PS. Where it gives only kW, the PS figure is our conversion at 1 kW = 1.3596 PS and carries the word "about". A car quoted elsewhere at "118 bhp" and one quoted here at 120 PS are the same engine.
Ties in the table are real. The Venue, Syros, Nexon and Sonet are within 0.3 kW of each other, so we rank them level and do not pretend 88.3 beats 88.2. The same goes for the Fronx's 100.06 PS against the 100 PS engines from Renault and Nissan.
1 and 2. Mahindra XUV 7XO AX and Scorpio-N Z2
Mahindra's 2.0-litre mStallion TGDi is the reason this ranking looks nothing like a compact SUV list. In the XUV 7XO brochure it is rated at 149.2 kW at 5,000 rpm and 380 Nm from 1,750 to 3,000 rpm. In the Scorpio-N brochure it is 149.14 kW at 5,000 rpm, with 370 Nm as a manual and 380 Nm as an automatic.
Mahindra's price pages list the XUV 7XO AX petrol manual, a seven-seater, at Rs 13,99,000 and the Scorpio-N Z2 petrol manual, also a seven-seater, at Rs 13,69,000. Those are the only petrol variants of either car under the ceiling. The next Scorpio-N petrol is the Z4 at Rs 15,56,692 and the next XUV 7XO is the AX3 at Rs 16,37,000, and the automatics start at Rs 17,15,693 and Rs 17,88,000.
So the trade is explicit. For the price of a top compact SUV you get about 203 PS and a base trim with a manual gearbox. The XUV 7XO holds a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating of 30.76 out of 32 and 44.97 out of 49.
3. Nissan Tekton T280
The Tekton is Nissan's new SUV, and its brochure lists the T280 turbo GDi at 163 PS at 5,250 rpm and 280 Nm from 2,000 to 3,500 rpm, with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed wet-clutch DCT. Nissan claims 0 to 100 km/h in 9.51 seconds for the manual and states 17.8 km/l (manual) and 18.5 km/l (DCT).
It qualifies by Rs 1,000. Nissan's price list has two T280 variants at Rs 14,99,000: the N-Connecta manual and the Acenta DCT. That makes the Tekton the most powerful turbo-petrol automatic SUV under the ceiling. Every other T280 is above it, and the cheaper T160 variants from Rs 10,49,000 use a 100 PS, 166 Nm 1.0 turbo.
The Renault Duster uses the same 163 PS, 280 Nm engine as the TCe 160, but Renault's cheapest TCe 160, the Techno+ manual, is Rs 15,29,000. It misses.
4. Mahindra Thar Roxx MX1 and Thar LXT
The Thar Roxx brochure gives the petrol manual 119 kW at 5,000 rpm and 330 Nm from 1,500 to 3,000 rpm, and the automatic 130 kW and 380 Nm. Only the manual gets under the ceiling: the MX1 petrol, rear-wheel drive, at Rs 12,52,000. The cheapest petrol automatic, the MX3, is Rs 15,39,000. The Roxx has a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating of 31.09 out of 32 and 45 out of 49.
The three-door Thar lists the same 119 kW and 330 Nm for its 2.0 petrol, and one variant qualifies: the LXT petrol 2WD automatic at Rs 14,76,500. The 4WD petrol starts at Rs 15,59,500.
5. MG Hector
MG's brochure rates the Hector's 1.5-litre turbocharged intercooled petrol at 143 PS and 250 Nm, with a 6-speed manual or CVT. MG's site gives a starting price of Rs 12.14 lakh. We did not read a variant-by-variant price list, so we cannot say how far up the range Rs 15 lakh takes you.
6. Mahindra XUV 3XO TGDi
Among SUVs under four metres, nothing beats the 3XO's 1.2 TGDi: 96 kW at 5,000 rpm and 230 Nm from 1,500 to 3,750 rpm. Mahindra sells it on the AX5 L manual at Rs 12,02,500, the AX7 manual at Rs 12,19,500, the AX5 L automatic at Rs 13,27,500, the AX7 L manual at Rs 13,32,500 and the AX7 automatic at Rs 13,34,000. The AX7 L automatic is Rs 15,03,500 and misses by Rs 3,500.
The cheaper 3XO petrols use the 82 kW, 200 Nm TCMPFi, ranked ninth, from Rs 7,79,000. Its 200 Nm is more than any 1.0-litre engine on this list.
7 and 8. The 120 PS and 115 PS groups
Four sub-4-metre SUVs are effectively tied. The Hyundai Venue's Kappa 1.0 Turbo GDi is 88.3 kW (120 PS) and 172 Nm, from Rs 8,93,600; the Venue N Line N6 uses the same engine from Rs 10,66,100. The Kia Syros is rated by Kia at 120 PS and 172 Nm, from Rs 8,41,900, and every petrol Syros has it. The Kia Sonet's brochure prints 88 kW and 172 Nm, from Rs 9,33,900 as an iMT. The Tata Nexon's brochure prints 88.2 kW and 170 Nm.
Just behind, Skoda and Volkswagen's 1.0 TSI makes 85 kW (115 PS) and 178 Nm, the best torque of the 1.0-litre engines. The Kylaq has it on every variant from Rs 7,59,000, the Kushaq from Rs 10,69,000 and the Taigun from Rs 10,99,900. The 150 PS 1.5 TSI Taigun starts at Rs 19,16,900, far over.
10 and 11. Where the Maruti turbos rank
The Maruti Brezza Turbo is tenth. Its K10C DiTC Smart Hybrid makes 81 kW (110.12 PS) at 5,500 rpm and 170 Nm from 2,000 to 3,500 rpm, with a 6-speed manual only. It is the cheapest turbo SUV we could price, at Rs 7,49,900 for the LXi Turbo, and its torque matches the Nexon's. Certified mileage is 19.96 to 20.47 km/l.
The Maruti Fronx Turbo is in the group tied for eleventh and last. Its 1.0 Turbo Boosterjet makes 73.6 kW (100.06 PS) at 5,500 rpm and 147.6 Nm from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm, the lowest torque of any engine in the table, and starts at Rs 8,96,900. Maruti quotes 0 to 60 km/h in 5.3 seconds and certifies 21.5 km/l for the manual and 20.01 km/l for the 6-speed automatic. Buy the Fronx turbo for mileage and the torque converter automatic, not to win this ranking. The Toyota Taisor is the same car and the same output.
SUVs dropped for breaching the ceiling
| SUV | Turbo engine | Cheapest turbo variant |
|---|---|---|
| Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7 L TGDi automatic | 96 kW, 230 Nm | Rs 15,03,500 |
| Renault Duster TCe 160 | 163 PS, 280 Nm | Rs 15,29,000 |
| Mahindra Thar Roxx petrol automatic | 130 kW, 380 Nm | Rs 15,39,000 |
| Hyundai Venue N Line N10 | 88.3 kW (120 PS), 172 Nm | Rs 15,48,700 |
| Kia Seltos 1.5 T-GDi | 117.5 kW, 253 Nm | Rs 16,61,900 |
| Volkswagen Taigun 1.5 TSI | 150 PS (110 kW), 250 Nm | Rs 19,16,900 |
| Hyundai Creta 1.5 Turbo | 117.5 kW (160 PS), 253 Nm | Rs 19,91,300 |
The Seltos needs a caveat. Kia's price tool lists three cheaper turbo iMT trims, the HTE (O), HTK and HTK (O), but returned no price for any of them, so Rs 16,61,900 for the HTK (O) DCT is the cheapest Seltos turbo with a published price. If one of those iMT trims is on sale below Rs 15 lakh, the Seltos would rank fifth.
How this list was built and what was not verified
We listed every SUV with a turbocharged petrol engine and at least one turbo variant priced under Rs 15 lakh ex-showroom, then ranked by peak power in kW from the maker's brochure, using torque to order near-ties. Prices come from Mahindra's, Maruti's, Nissan's, Hyundai's, Volkswagen's and Skoda's price pages and Kia's price tool on 13 October 2026.
Not verified: Tata. Its car website was down on the day we checked, so the Nexon is ranked on its brochure output with no price, and the Curvv, the Sierra and the Punch turbo are left out. They may belong on this list. Citroen's Basalt and Aircross (110 PS, with 190 Nm as a manual and 205 Nm as an automatic, per their brochures) would sit level with the Brezza, but we could not read their prices. Toyota publishes no Taisor price. The Kushaq's torque is not on Skoda's page. This is a ranking of brochure figures, not of measured acceleration, and a heavy ladder-frame SUV with 203 PS will not feel like a hot hatch.
