Best Mid-Size SUVs With 6 Airbags Under Rs 20 Lakh in India (2026)
This is the budget where driver assistance becomes reachable: six of the eight offer a Level 2 suite below Rs 20 lakh, and the cheapest is the Renault Duster Techno+ at Rs 15.29 lakh. Crash scores still spread despite identical airbag counts, from 31.70 down to 29.50 for adults. The Maruti Grand Vitara is the outlier, the only car here never crash tested and the only one with no assistance option at any price, while sharing a showroom with the Victoris which leads on both.
Eight mid-size SUVs fit six airbags to every variant and have versions under Rs 20 lakh. Seven hold 5-star Bharat NCAP ratings, led by the Kia Seltos at 31.70 out of 32 for adults and 45 out of 49 for children, with the Maruti Victoris next on 31.66. The Tata Harrier is the only one here with 5-star results from both Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP.
This is the budget where driver assistance becomes reachable. Six of the eight offer a Level 2 suite below Rs 20 lakh, and the cheapest entry is the Renault Duster Techno+ at Rs 15.29 lakh. The two that do not are the Mahindra XUV 7XO, which puts it above the ceiling, and the Maruti Grand Vitara, which does not offer it at all.

The seven with a crash-test result
Kia Seltos
The best score here and the highest Bharat NCAP has given any SUV: 31.70 out of 32 and 45 out of 49, with the rating covering every engine and gearbox. The 1.5 petrol makes 115 PS and 144 Nm, the 1.5 turbo 160 PS and 253 Nm, the 1.5 diesel 116 PS, claiming about 17 to 20.7 km/l.
Its Level 2+ suite is the deepest here: adaptive cruise with navigation-based corner and speed-limit control, forward collision avoidance including junction crossing and evasive steering assist, blind spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, highway driving assist and a driver attention warning, with front and rear dashcams and a head-up display.
Maruti Victoris
31.66 out of 32 and 43 out of 49 at Bharat NCAP, plus 33.72 out of 34 at Global NCAP, with the rating running from the base LXI to the ZXI+ 4WD.
The 1.5 K15C makes 103.06 PS and 139 Nm, the strong hybrid pairs a 92.45 PS engine with a motor for 28.65 km/l, and the S-CNG makes 87.8 PS at 27.02 km/kg. AllGrip Select is available on the petrol automatic.
Level 2 arrives at Rs 17.49 lakh on the ZXI+ automatics, bringing autonomous emergency braking for cars, motorcycles, pedestrians and bicycles, adaptive cruise with curve speed reduction, lane keep assist, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert and a 360-degree camera with eleven views. Two caveats: the strong hybrid variants do not get the suite, and the S-CNG is outside the rating.
Tata Sierra
31.14 out of 32 and 44.73 out of 49. A 1.5 petrol with 106 PS and 145 Nm, a 1.5 turbo petrol around 160 PS and a 1.5 diesel around 118 PS, claiming 16.5 and 17.8 km/l.
Level 2 from the Accomplished at Rs 17.99 lakh, with adaptive cruise, a lane centring system, advanced steering assist, traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed assist and a rear collision warning. Triple screens including a co-passenger display come with it.
Mahindra XUV 7XO
30.76 out of 32 and 44.97 out of 49, the best child score of the non-45s, and the only SUV here offering six or seven seats. The 2.0 turbo petrol makes about 203 hp and 380 Nm, the 2.2 diesel about 185 hp with up to 450 Nm.
Under Rs 20 lakh you get the 540-degree camera with blind view monitor, stability control with traction control, hill launch control, tyre pressure monitoring and ISOFIX, but the Level 2 suite and the seventh knee airbag both belong to the AX7 Tech and above, which sit over the ceiling.
Renault Duster
A full 45 out of 49 for children, matched only by the Seltos, with 30.49 for adults, and the rating covers all three engine and gearbox families. The 1.0 TCe makes about 100 PS and the 1.3 TCe 160 PS and 280 Nm, claiming 17.75 and 18.45 km/l.
It offers the cheapest Level 2 suite on this list, from Rs 15.29 lakh on the Techno+, with adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot warning, stability control, tyre pressure monitoring and disc brakes all round.
Tata Harrier
The only SUV here with two independent 5-star results: 30.08 out of 32 and 44.54 out of 49 at Bharat NCAP in December 2023, and 33.05 out of 34 with a full 45 out of 49 at Global NCAP.
Six airbags standard, seven from the Fearless X Plus. The 2.0 Kryotec diesel makes about 168 bhp and 350 Nm, claiming up to 16.8 km/l, with Level 2 on the automatics from the Adventure X Plus. Note this is the petrol and diesel Harrier; the electric Harrier EV holds a separate, higher rating that does not carry across.
Tata Curvv
29.50 out of 32 and 43.66 out of 49, rated in October 2024 on the Accomplished+ A diesel automatic, and the cheapest car on this list at Rs 10.00 lakh.
Three engines: a 1.2 Revotron turbo with 120 PS and 170 Nm, a 1.2 Hyperion GDi with 125 PS and 225 Nm, and a 1.5 Kryojet diesel with 118 PS and 260 Nm, claiming up to 23 km/l. Level 2 on the Accomplished X Plus from Rs 18.50 lakh, with adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, adaptive steering assist, traffic sign recognition, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot detection and a 360-degree camera with blind view monitor.
The one without a crash test
Maruti Grand Vitara, Rs 10.77 lakh to Rs 19.72 lakh. Six airbags standard on every variant, confirmed in Maruti's brochure, and the widest powertrain choice here: a 103.06 PS petrol, a 92.45 PS strong hybrid claiming 27.97 km/l, an S-CNG at 26.6 km/kg and AllGrip Select four-wheel drive on the petrol automatic. Claimed petrol mileage is 21.11 km/l manual and 20.58 km/l automatic.
Stability control with hill hold, ABS with EBD and brake assist, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX, a 360-degree camera and parking sensors at both ends, with a panoramic sunroof, head-up display and ventilated seats on the Alpha. It has no Bharat NCAP result and no driver assistance at any price, which is a lot to give up against the Victoris sitting next to it in the same showroom.
What decides it at this budget
Assistance is now affordable, but the entry price varies hugely. From Rs 15.29 lakh on the Duster to above Rs 20 lakh on the XUV 7XO, for suites that differ in depth as much as in price. The Seltos and Harrier give you the most complete systems.
The crash scores still spread. Identical airbag counts, yet adult protection runs from 31.70 to 29.50 and child protection from 45 to 43. Read the score, not the equipment list.
The Grand Vitara is the outlier to think hardest about. It is the only untested car here and the only one with no assistance option, while sharing a showroom with the Victoris, which leads on both.
