Best Mid-Size SUVs With 6 Airbags Under Rs 15 Lakh in India (2026)

Best Mid-Size SUVs With 6 Airbags Under Rs 15 Lakh in India (2026)

All six have six airbags from the base variant, yet their adult scores still spread from 31.70 to 29.50 because the difference comes from structure and restraints rather than airbag count. The one thing this budget does not buy on any of them is driver assistance: five of the six offer it and every ADAS variant sits above Rs 15 lakh, while the Maruti Grand Vitara offers none at all and is also the only car here never crash tested.

Six mid-size SUVs fit six airbags to every variant and start under Rs 15 lakh. Five of the six hold 5-star Bharat NCAP ratings, led by the Kia Seltos at 31.70 out of 32 for adults and 45 out of 49 for children, with the Maruti Victoris just behind on 31.66. The Tata Curvv starts cheapest at Rs 10.00 lakh and the Maruti Grand Vitara is the only one here never crash tested.

One thing this budget does not buy, on any of them: driver assistance. Every ADAS-equipped variant of the Victoris, Seltos, Sierra, Duster and Curvv sits above Rs 15 lakh, and the Grand Vitara offers none at all. Under this ceiling you are buying crash protection and stability hardware, not sensors.

The six in detail

Equipment described is for the highest variant available under Rs 15 lakh, which on every car here is the lower or middle part of the range.

1. Kia Seltos, from Rs 11.25 lakh

The best crash result of any SUV Bharat NCAP has tested: 31.70 out of 32 for adults and 45 out of 49 for children, with the rating covering the petrol, turbo petrol and diesel families and every gearbox.

The 1.5 petrol makes 115 PS and 144 Nm, the 1.5 turbo 160 PS and 253 Nm, and the 1.5 diesel 116 PS, returning about 17 to 20.7 km/l depending on the combination. Under Rs 15 lakh you get six airbags, stability control, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring, parking sensors at both ends, an emergency stop signal, ISOFIX and disc brakes at all four wheels, plus a sunroof and a 10.25-inch touchscreen on the better trims.

2. Maruti Victoris, from Rs 10.50 lakh

31.66 out of 32 and 43 out of 49 at Bharat NCAP, and 33.72 out of 34 at Global NCAP, making it the only SUV here with two independent 5-star results. The rating runs from the base LXI upward, so the variants in this budget are covered.

The 1.5 K15C makes 103.06 PS and 139 Nm, the strong hybrid pairs a 92.45 PS engine with a motor for a claimed 28.65 km/l, and the S-CNG makes 87.8 PS at 27.02 km/kg. Petrol mileage is 21.18 km/l manual and 21.06 km/l automatic.

Standard safety covers stability control with hill hold, ABS with EBD and brake assist, tyre pressure monitoring, an over-speed alert, ISOFIX and disc brakes all round, with a reverse camera and sensors. Worth noting: the S-CNG falls outside the variants the 5-star rating covers, and the Level 2 suite needs Rs 17.49 lakh.

3. Tata Sierra, from Rs 11.49 lakh

31.14 out of 32 and 44.73 out of 49, the second-best child score here. The 1.5 Revotron petrol makes 106 PS and 145 Nm, the 1.5 turbo petrol about 160 PS and the 1.5 diesel about 118 PS, claiming 16.5 km/l and 17.8 km/l on ARAI figures.

Six airbags across the range, with stability control, ABS with EBD, hill hold, traction control, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, rear sensors, ISOFIX and disc brakes at all four wheels. The panoramic sunroof and 10.25-inch touchscreen arrive within this budget; the Level 2 suite does not.

4. Renault Duster, from Rs 10.49 lakh

A full 45 out of 49 for child protection, matched here only by the Seltos, with 30.49 out of 32 for adults. The rating covers the 1.0 turbo, the 1.3 turbo and the 1.3 turbo DCT, so all three powertrains are included.

The 1.0 TCe makes about 100 PS and 160 Nm and the 1.3 TCe 160 PS and 280 Nm, claiming 17.75 km/l manual and 18.45 km/l DCT. Stability control, tyre pressure monitoring, hill start assist, ABS with EBD, rear sensors and camera, and disc brakes all round.

5. Tata Curvv, from Rs 10.00 lakh

The cheapest entry here, rated in October 2024 at 29.50 out of 32 and 43.66 out of 49 on the Accomplished+ A diesel automatic.

Three engines: a 1.2 Revotron turbo petrol with 120 PS and 170 Nm, a 1.2 Hyperion GDi with 125 PS and 225 Nm, and a 1.5 Kryojet diesel with 118 PS and 260 Nm, claiming up to 23 km/l. A 360-degree camera with blind-spot monitoring, front parking assist, rear sensors, stability control, ABS with EBD and hill hold, with a panoramic sunroof and dual 10.25-inch screens on the higher trims.

6. Maruti Grand Vitara, from Rs 10.77 lakh

Six airbags standard on every variant, confirmed in Maruti's brochure, but no Bharat NCAP result. The 1.5 petrol makes 103.06 PS and 139 Nm, the strong hybrid 92.45 PS for a claimed 27.97 km/l, and the S-CNG 26.6 km/kg, with AllGrip Select four-wheel drive on the petrol automatic. Claimed petrol mileage is 21.11 km/l manual and 20.58 km/l automatic.

Stability control with hill hold, ABS with EBD and brake assist, tyre pressure monitoring, a high-speed alert, seat belt reminders front and rear, ISOFIX, and a rear camera with sensors. A panoramic sunroof and ventilated front seats appear on the higher trims, though those sit above this ceiling.

How to choose at this ceiling

The crash scores spread more than you might expect. All six have identical airbag counts, yet adult protection runs from the Seltos's 31.70 to the Curvv's 29.50, and child protection from 45 down to 43. That gap comes from structure and restraints, which is why the score is worth reading rather than the equipment list.

Only one is untested. The Grand Vitara is the strongest car here on powertrain choice, with petrol, CNG, a strong hybrid and four-wheel drive, and the weakest on evidence, with no independent crash result at any price.

Do not expect ADAS. Five of the six offer it, and not one offers it under Rs 15 lakh. If a driver-assistance suite is the priority, this is the wrong budget for a mid-size SUV.
