Top Mid-Size SUVs Under Rs 20 Lakh With Advanced Safety Features (2026)

Top Mid-Size SUVs Under Rs 20 Lakh With Advanced Safety Features (2026)

Feature counts and crash scores do not line up. The Kia Seltos happens to lead both, at 31.70 of 32 with 21 claimed features, but the Maruti Victoris is second on crash protection with the shortest list, and the Tata Curvv has the second-longest list with the lowest adult score. Counts are also manufacturer-defined and not comparable between brands. And the budget caps the suite rather than the model: the Seltos and Sierra both reserve their fullest systems, 28 and 22 features, for variants above Rs 20 lakh.

Five mid-size SUVs offer Level 2 driver assistance below Rs 20 lakh, and how much you actually get varies more than the price does. Kia claims 21 features on the Seltos variant that fits the budget, Tata 20 on the Curvv and 13 on the Sierra, Renault 17 on the Duster, and Maruti 10 on the Victoris. The sixth car here, the Maruti Grand Vitara, offers none at any price.

The crash scores don't line up with that ranking. The Kia Seltos leads on both, at 31.70 out of 32 for adults and 45 out of 49 for children, but the Maruti Victoris is second on crash protection at 31.66 with the shortest assistance list, and the Tata Curvv has the second-longest list with the lowest adult score at 29.50.

What "advanced safety" is actually measuring

Three separate things, and they're worth keeping apart.

Crash protection is what Bharat NCAP measures, out of 32 for adults and 49 for children. It is the only number here produced by an independent test.

Driver assistance is radar and camera systems that warn, brake and steer. A Level 2 system pairs adaptive cruise control with lane keeping, and the driver stays responsible throughout.

Feature counts are marketing, not measurement. Each manufacturer decides what counts as a feature, so Kia's 21 and Maruti's 10 are not strictly comparable. Use them to get a sense of the suite's shape, then check the specific functions, which is why they are listed per car below.

What each suite actually contains

Kia Seltos, from Rs 11.25 lakh

The deepest suite inside the budget and the best crash result, 31.70 out of 32 and 45 out of 49, with the rating covering every engine and gearbox.

Adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance, lane keep assist, lane departure avoidance, blind spot collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, high beam assist, driver attention warning and leading vehicle departure alert, with a 360-degree camera, stability control, hill assist and disc brakes all round.

Worth noting: the GTX(O) and X-Line(O) take the count to 28, and both sit above Rs 20 lakh. Under the budget you get the 21-feature version.

Maruti Victoris, from Rs 10.50 lakh

Second on crash protection at 31.66 out of 32, and the only SUV here with a second independent result, 33.72 out of 34 at Global NCAP. Its Bharat NCAP rating runs from the base LXI to the ZXI+ 4WD.

The shortest assistance list here, but a well-chosen one: advanced emergency braking that recognises cars, motorcycles, pedestrians and bicycles, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise with curve speed reduction, lane keep assist, lane departure warning and prevention, blind spot monitor with lane change alert, rear cross-traffic alert, vehicle sway warning and high beam assist. A 360-degree camera with eleven views, stability control with hill hold, an electronic parking brake and tyre pressure monitoring underneath.

It arrives on the ZXI+ automatics from Rs 17.49 lakh. Two caveats: the strong hybrid variants do not get it, and the S-CNG falls outside the 5-star rating.

Tata Sierra, from Rs 11.49 lakh

31.14 out of 32 and 44.73 out of 49. Adaptive cruise with stop and go, autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane departure prevention assist and adaptive high beam assist, with a 360-degree HD surround view, a blind spot monitor, front sensors, tyre pressure monitoring, stability control and hill descent control.

Same ceiling effect as the Seltos: the Accomplished+ takes the count to 22 and costs more than Rs 20 lakh.

Renault Duster, from Rs 10.49 lakh

A full 45 out of 49 for children, matching the Seltos, with 30.49 for adults, and the rating covers all three engine and gearbox families.

Adaptive cruise with stop and go, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition and blind spot warning, with a 360-degree camera, stability control, ABS with EBD and disc brakes all round. Its whole range sits under Rs 20 lakh, so unlike the Seltos and Sierra there is no trim you are missing out on.

Tata Curvv, from Rs 10.00 lakh

The cheapest entry and the second-longest claimed suite, against the lowest adult score here at 29.50 out of 32, rated in October 2024 with 43.66 out of 49 for children.

Adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and traffic sign recognition, plus a 360-degree camera, stability control with hill hold, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX and disc brakes all round. Three engines: a 120 PS turbo petrol, a 125 PS GDi with 225 Nm and a 118 PS diesel with 260 Nm.

Maruti Grand Vitara, from Rs 10.77 lakh

The outlier, and worth being direct about. Six airbags, stability control with hill hold, ABS with EBD and brake assist, a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring, parking sensors at both ends, a high-speed alert, hill descent control on the AllGrip variants and ISOFIX, all on a Suzuki TECT body.

The passive and stability equipment is solid. What it does not have is any driver assistance at any price, or any independent crash-test result. It sits in the same showroom as the Victoris, which has both.

How to read the trade

More features does not mean a better car. The Curvv claims twice the Victoris's feature count and scores two points lower for adult protection. The Seltos leads on both, which is the exception rather than the rule.

The budget caps the suite, not the model. On the Seltos and Sierra the sub-Rs 20 lakh variant gets a reduced version of the system, 21 features instead of 28 and 13 instead of 22. On the Duster and Victoris what you see is the full suite.

Check which functions, not how many. Adaptive cruise with stop and go behaves very differently in traffic from plain adaptive cruise, and lane centering differs from lane keep assist. Those distinctions matter more than any total.

FAQs

Which mid-size SUVs under Rs 20 lakh have Level 2 ADAS?

The Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Maruti Victoris, Renault Duster and Tata Curvv, five of the six here. The Maruti Grand Vitara offers none at any price.

Which has the most ADAS features under Rs 20 lakh?

Kia claims 21 on the Seltos variant that fits the budget, ahead of Tata's 20 on the Curvv and Renault's 17 on the Duster. Those counts come from the manufacturers and are not defined consistently between brands.

Does the Maruti Grand Vitara have ADAS?

No. Among Maruti's mid-size SUVs only the Victoris offers it, on the ZXI+ automatics from Rs 17.49 lakh. The Grand Vitara also has no Bharat NCAP result.

Which has the best crash rating?

The Kia Seltos at 31.70 out of 32 and 45 out of 49. The Maruti Victoris is next at 31.66 and is the only one here with a second 5-star result, from Global NCAP.

Why do the Seltos and Sierra show fewer features than their top trims?

Because the figures describe the highest variant under Rs 20 lakh. The Seltos GTX(O) reaches 28 features and the Sierra Accomplished+ 22, and both cost more than the budget.

Does the Bharat NCAP rating cover every variant?

Not always. Bharat NCAP publishes an applicability list per car. On the Victoris the rating runs across the range but excludes the S-CNG, so check your exact variant and fuel.
