Best Hatchbacks With a Digital Instrument Cluster Under Rs 8 Lakh (2026)

Best Hatchbacks With a Digital Instrument Cluster Under Rs 8 Lakh (2026)

Four hatchbacks with published prices list a digital cluster under Rs 8 lakh: the Renault Kwid from Rs 4,52,900, Tata Tiago from Rs 4,76,990, Hyundai i20 from Rs 5,99,700 and Tata Altroz from Rs 5,99,990. Only the Altroz prints a size, 10.16 cm. The Citroen C3 qualifies on equipment but Citroen publishes no prices. The Baleno has dials with a segment MID on Sigma and Delta and a TFT colour MID from the Zeta at Rs 7,99,900; the Swift and Glanza are the same kind of cluster.

The best hatchback with a digital instrument cluster under Rs 8 lakh is the Tata Altroz Pure at Rs 7,14,990 ex-showroom: Tata's brochure lists a 10.16 cm digital cluster from the base Smart variant, and the Altroz is the only car here with a 5-star Bharat NCAP result. The Tata Tiago is the cheapest six-airbag route, with its Digital Island Cluster standard from Rs 4,76,990. The Hyundai i20 and Renault Kwid also list a digital cluster on every variant. The Maruti Baleno does not qualify. Its brochure shows a speedometer and tachometer with a multi-information display between them, and that is a different thing.

That distinction is the reason this article exists. Several lists count any car with a colour screen between two dials as having a digital cluster. This one counts only cars whose manufacturer names the cluster itself as digital.

Prices are ex-showroom Delhi from each manufacturer's own price list, checked on 13 October 2026. Cluster descriptions are quoted from each brochure.

How this list was built, and what was not verified

For every car I opened the current manufacturer brochure and found the row or line that describes the instrument cluster. A car made the list only if that line calls the cluster digital and the variant carrying it is priced under Rs 8,00,000 on the maker's own price list.

Be clear about the limits of that method.

  • Screen sizes are printed for two cars only. Tata gives 10.16 cm for the Altroz, and Citroen gives 17.78 cm for the C3 Shine. Tata, Hyundai and Renault print no size for the Tiago, i20 and Kwid clusters, so none is quoted.
  • I have not sat in front of each cluster. "Digital" is the maker's word. A brochure cannot tell you how sharp the display is or how readable it is in sunlight.
  • Citroen publishes no variant prices on its India website. It offers a check-price form. The C3 qualifies on equipment, but it is not ranked because I could not confirm which trims sit under Rs 8 lakh.
  • Mileage is missing for most. Tata and Hyundai do not print certified mileage in these brochures, and the Kwid brochure's specification table has none either.

1. Tata Altroz

Qualifying variants under Rs 8 lakh: Smart at Rs 5,99,990, Pure at Rs 7,14,990, Pure S at Rs 7,44,990, Pure AMT at Rs 7,71,990. The Smart CNG at Rs 7,29,990 also fits.

Tata lists the 10.16 cm digital cluster in the base Smart variant's equipment, and it carries through the Pure and Creative. The larger 17.78 cm digital instrument cluster arrives on the Accomplished S at Rs 9,29,990, and the 26.03 cm cluster with map view on the Accomplished+ S at Rs 10,74,990. Both are over this budget.

The Pure is the one to buy. Along with the digital cluster it adds a 20.32 cm touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, a rear view camera and cruise control. The Pure S adds a voice-assisted sunroof for Rs 30,000.

Engine: 1.2 litre Revotron petrol, 88 PS and 115 Nm. A 1.2 litre iCNG makes 73.5 PS and 103 Nm on gas.

Safety: six airbags and Electronic Stability Program on every variant. Bharat NCAP scored it 29.65 out of 32 for adult protection and 44.90 out of 49 for child protection, a 5-star result in both.

Weakness: the cluster you get under Rs 8 lakh is the small one. The screens Tata advertises most are on trims above Rs 9 lakh.

2. Tata Tiago

Qualifying variants under Rs 8 lakh: every petrol variant, from the Smart at Rs 4,76,990 to the Creative+ AMT at Rs 7,90,990, and CNG variants up to the Pure+ CNG AMT at Rs 7,64,990.

The Tiago's brochure lists the Digital Island Cluster in the base Smart, and from the Pure at Rs 5,56,990 it becomes a "Digital Island Cluster with Bluetooth". No other car on this list pairs a digital cluster with six airbags at so low a price.

Move up to the Pure+ at Rs 6,09,990 for the features most buyers want with it: a 20.32 cm touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an HD reverse camera, Electronic Stability Program with traction control, hill hold and tyre pressure monitoring. The Creative at Rs 7,05,990 brings a 26.03 cm touchscreen and a 360 degree camera.

Engine: 1.2 litre Revotron petrol, 86 PS and 113 Nm, manual or AMT. The iCNG makes 75.5 PS and 96.5 Nm on gas.

Weaknesses: Electronic Stability Program starts only at the Pure+, so the two cheapest variants go without. The boot is 242 litres. The current car has no Bharat NCAP result.

3. Hyundai i20

Qualifying variants under Rs 8 lakh: Era at Rs 5,99,700, Magna Executive at Rs 6,74,600, Magna at Rs 7,04,900, Sportz at Rs 7,85,200.

Hyundai's feature table carries the line "Digital cluster with TFT multi information display (MID)" as standard on all nine variants. It shows a gear shift indicator, low fuel and door-ajar warnings and a parking sensor display, and from the Magna Executive it shows individual tyre pressure warnings.

Under Rs 8 lakh, the Magna at Rs 7,04,900 has a smart electric sunroof and rear AC vents but no touchscreen. The Sportz at Rs 7,85,200 has a 20.32 cm touchscreen, rear camera, push-button start and cruise control, and loses the sunroof.

Engine: 1.2 litre Kappa petrol, 83 PS and 114.7 Nm with the manual. The automatic variants are all above Rs 8 lakh.

Safety: six airbags, electronic stability control and hill-start assist on every variant. No Bharat NCAP result.

Weakness: you choose between a sunroof and a touchscreen at this budget. No variant under Rs 8 lakh has both.

4. Renault Kwid

Qualifying variants: Evolution from Rs 4,52,900 and Climber from Rs 5,14,900.

The Kwid is the cheapest car on this list, and Renault's brochure lists the "LED digital instrument cluster" on both variants. Both also get a 20.32 cm touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, so the base Kwid has two screens for under Rs 5 lakh.

Engine: 1.0 litre three-cylinder petrol, 69 PS and 92.5 Nm, with a 5-speed manual or the Easy-R AMT. Boot space is 279 litres.

Weaknesses: the brochure states that six airbags and the rearview camera come on the Climber only. The Evolution has two front airbags. Electronic stability program is listed for both. There is no Bharat NCAP result, and it is the smallest and least powerful car here.

Listed but not ranked: Citroen C3

Citroen's September 2026 brochure shows a "Digital Cluster" on the Live, Live (O), Feel and Feel (O), and a "17.78 cm Colour Digital TFT Cluster" on the Shine and on the turbo Feel. On equipment it belongs in this article.

It is not ranked for two reasons. Citroen India publishes no variant price list online, so I could not confirm what sits under Rs 8 lakh. And the same brochure shows the Live, Live (O) and Feel with front airbags only, and ESP, hill hold and tyre pressure monitoring only with the turbo engine. Ask for a written quote and check the airbag count on the exact trim.

Where the Maruti hatchbacks stand

Baleno. The NEXA brochure lists "Speedometer with Tachometer" on every variant, with "MID (Segment Display)" on the Sigma and Delta and "MID (TFT Color Display)" on the Zeta, Alpha and Alpha (O). The brochure's cabin photograph shows two round dials. That is a dial cluster with a colour information screen, and it should not be sold to you as a digital cluster. If the colour screen is enough, the Zeta MT at Rs 7,99,900 is the only Baleno with it under Rs 8 lakh, and the Alpha at Rs 9,09,900 adds a head-up display, which does more for at-a-glance speed reading than a digital cluster would. Our guide to first cars with a head-up display covers that.

Swift. The brochure lists a tachometer and a multi-information display, "Segment" on the LXi to ZXi and "Coloured" on the ZXi+, which costs Rs 8,43,900. Same verdict as the Baleno.

Alto K10. Its brochure lists a "Digital Speedometer" on all four trims, from Rs 3,69,900. It prints no screen size and does not call it a TFT display, so I have treated it as a digital speed readout, not a full digital cluster.

Toyota Glanza and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. The Glanza brochure describes a TFT display, monochrome on the E and S and 10.66 cm colour on the G and V, alongside a tachometer and speedometer. The Nios lists an 8.89 cm speedometer with multi-information display plus a tachometer. Neither maker calls it a digital cluster.

Which one to buy

For most buyers, the Altroz Pure at Rs 7,14,990: digital cluster, touchscreen, automatic climate control, six airbags, stability control and the best crash score here. On a tighter budget, the Tiago Pure+ at Rs 6,09,990 gives you the same list in a smaller car. The Kwid is the cheapest way in, but take the Climber for its six airbags.

If you were set on a Baleno, buy it for other reasons. It has six airbags as standard, certified mileage of 23.80 km/l and a 318 litre boot. A digital cluster is not among them.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Maruti Baleno have a digital instrument cluster?

No. Its brochure lists a speedometer with tachometer on every variant, plus a multi-information display that is a segment display on the Sigma and Delta and a TFT colour display from the Zeta. The dials are not replaced by a screen.

Which is the cheapest hatchback with a digital instrument cluster?

The Renault Kwid Evolution, from Rs 4,52,900, with two airbags. The cheapest with six airbags is the Tata Tiago Smart at Rs 4,76,990.

Which hatchback under Rs 8 lakh has the largest digital cluster?

Only the Altroz has a printed size under this budget, 10.16 cm. The Citroen C3 Shine lists 17.78 cm, but Citroen does not publish its price. Tata, Hyundai and Renault give no size for the Tiago, i20 and Kwid.

Is a digital cluster better than analogue dials?

It can show more: navigation prompts, tyre pressures and trip data in one place. It does not make the speed any easier to read than a clear dial does, and a small or dim screen can be worse in direct sun. Look at it in daylight on a test drive.

Do these cars also have a touchscreen under Rs 8 lakh?

The Kwid has one on both variants. The Tiago gets one from the Pure+ at Rs 6,09,990, the Altroz from the Pure at Rs 7,14,990 and the i20 from the Sportz at Rs 7,85,200.

Which of these has a crash-test rating?

Only the Altroz, at 29.65 out of 32 and 44.90 out of 49 from Bharat NCAP. The Baleno, which does not qualify for this list, scored 26.52 and 34.81. See our Bharat NCAP hatchback ratings guide for the rest.
