Best Hatchbacks Under Rs 7 Lakh in India (2026)
Eleven hatchbacks have at least one variant under Rs 7 lakh ex-showroom. The Maruti Celerio, Alto K10 and S-Presso fit their whole range under the line; the Swift and Baleno fit only manual petrol variants, and their automatics start at Rs 7,12,900 and Rs 7,49,900. The Baleno Delta at Rs 6,99,900 is the roomiest, the Alto K10 from Rs 3,69,900 is the cheapest with six airbags, and the S-Presso has two airbags on every variant. Tata and Hyundai publish no certified mileage, so the Tiago, Altroz and Grand i10 Nios are not compared on fuel economy.
The best hatchback under Rs 7 lakh for most buyers is the Maruti Swift VXi at Rs 6,67,900: a certified 25.35 km/l, 82.93 PS, six airbags, ESP with hill hold assist and a 17.78 cm touchscreen with wireless phone projection. If you want an automatic inside the same budget, the Maruti Celerio ZXi+ AGS at Rs 6,75,400 is certified at 26.00 km/l. If a crash rating comes first, the Tata Altroz Smart at Rs 5,99,990 is the only car under Rs 7 lakh with 5 stars from Bharat NCAP.
Eleven hatchbacks have at least one variant under Rs 7 lakh ex-showroom. Six of them are Marutis, and four of those six fit their entire petrol and CNG range under the line. The others squeeze in two or three lower variants, so the useful question is not which car is under Rs 7 lakh but which variant, and what it leaves out.

The picks
Best overall: Maruti Swift VXi, Rs 6,67,900
Three Swift variants fit under Rs 7 lakh, all manual: the LXi at Rs 5,83,900, the VXi at Rs 6,67,900 and the VXi (O) at Rs 6,93,900. The VXi is the one to buy. Maruti's brochure puts six airbags, ESP, hill hold assist, ISOFIX mounts and reverse parking sensors on every Swift, and the VXi adds the 17.78 cm SmartPlay Pro touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, four speakers, steering controls and electrically adjustable mirrors. The LXi has none of those.
The engine is the 1,197 cc Z12E with 61 kW (82.93 PS) and 112.4 Nm, certified at 25.35 km/l with the 5-speed manual. That is the best manual petrol figure of any car on this page.
What Rs 7 lakh does not buy in a Swift: the AMT (from Rs 7,12,900), CNG (from Rs 7,57,400), alloy wheels, a split-folding rear seat or rear AC vents. The boot is 265 litres, small for the money. Bharat NCAP has not rated the Swift.
Most space: Maruti Baleno Delta, Rs 6,99,900
The Baleno Delta comes in Rs 100 under the ceiling. You get the same engine as the Swift in a longer body, with a 2,520 mm wheelbase and a 318-litre boot. The Delta has a 17.78 cm SmartPlay Pro touchscreen with wireless phone projection, rear AC vents, rear USB charging, tyre pressure monitoring, six airbags and ESP with hill hold assist. The Sigma at Rs 5,98,900 has the safety equipment but no audio system.
It is less efficient than the Swift at 23.80 km/l, and like the Swift it is manual and petrol only at this price.
The Baleno does have a Bharat NCAP result, which is rare under Rs 7 lakh. The report covering the Sigma and Delta scored 24.04 out of 32 for adult protection and 34.81 out of 49 for child protection. It was assessed in April 2024 on a two-airbag car, and the facelifted six-airbag Baleno now on sale has not been retested.
Best crash rating: Tata Altroz Smart, Rs 5,99,990
Only the base Altroz is under Rs 7 lakh; the next variant, the Pure, is Rs 7,14,990. But the Smart carries the same Bharat NCAP result as the rest of the range: 5 stars, with 29.65 out of 32 for adults and 44.90 out of 49 for children. The rating's applicability table includes the Smart petrol manual.
Tata's brochure gives the Smart six airbags, electronic stability program, projector headlamps, remote keyless entry and power windows on all four doors. It has no touchscreen, which arrives on the Pure. The 1.2-litre Revotron makes 88 PS and 115 Nm, the boot is 345 litres, and Tata publishes no certified mileage, so we cannot tell you how it compares with the Swift on fuel.
Best automatic: Maruti Celerio ZXi+ AGS, Rs 6,75,400
Five cars have a priced automatic under Rs 7 lakh, all AMTs. The Celerio is the most efficient at 26.00 km/l, and because its whole range is under the line you can buy the top ZXi+ AGS with the SmartPlay Studio touchscreen, push-button start and 15-inch alloys. Six airbags and ESP are standard, and hill hold assist is fitted to the AGS variants.
Two alternatives are worth a test drive. The WagonR ZXi+ AGS at Rs 6,97,400 has the stronger 1.2-litre engine (90.9 PS, 113.7 Nm, 24.43 km/l) and a 335-litre boot. The Tata Tiago Pure+ AMT at Rs 6,64,990 has 86 PS, and by Tata's brochure the Pure+ is the grade where ESP with traction control, hill hold, a 20.32 cm touchscreen and a reverse camera come in.
Best CNG: Maruti Celerio VXi CNG, Rs 5,97,900
Four Maruti hatchbacks and the Tiago offer factory CNG under Rs 7 lakh. Ranked by Maruti's certified figures, the order is Celerio (34.43 km/kg), WagonR (33.47), Alto K10 (33.40) and S-Presso (32.73). The Tiago iCNG starts at Rs 5,86,990 with 75.5 PS on gas, more than any of the Marutis, but Tata publishes no mileage figure for it.
If you carry luggage, look at the WagonR LXi CNG at Rs 5,93,900 or the VXi CNG at Rs 6,49,400 before the Celerio. All of these lose power on gas, to about 56.6 PS in the Marutis, and the Alto K10 and S-Presso CNG are four-seaters by their own brochures.
Lowest price with six airbags: Maruti Alto K10, from Rs 3,69,900
The Alto K10 lists side and curtain airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors on every grade. The Std (O) at Rs 3,69,900 has no air conditioning or power steering, so the practical starting point is the LXi (O) at Rs 3,99,900. Petrol mileage is 24.39 km/l on the manual and 24.90 km/l on the AGS.
Global NCAP tested the Alto K10 in 2023, before six airbags were standard, and scored it 21.67 out of 34 for adults and 3.52 out of 49 for children. The child score is very low, and the current car has not been retested.
The rest of the field
Maruti WagonR
Nine of ten variants are under Rs 7 lakh; only the flex-fuel ZXi+ at Rs 7,23,900 is not. It is the tall, boxy, easy-to-get-into choice, with six airbags and ESP standard. The touchscreen and alloys are on the ZXi+ only.
Maruti S-Presso
The cheapest car here at Rs 3,49,900, and the AGS returns 25.30 km/l. It has ESP on every variant, contrary to what some lists say; it is hill hold that is restricted to the AGS. The real limitation is two airbags, on every grade. For Rs 20,000 more the Alto K10 gives you six.
Tata Tiago
Eight variants under Rs 7 lakh across petrol manual, petrol AMT and CNG manual. Six airbags are standard. The CNG AMT exists but starts at Rs 7,12,990. No Bharat NCAP rating and no published mileage.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios
Four petrol manuals: Era, Magna, Corporate and Sportz. Six airbags on all of them. Hyundai's brochure fits electronic stability control and hill start assist from the Sportz on manual cars, so the Rs 6,92,900 Sportz, which also has the 8-inch touchscreen, is the one to consider. The AMT starts at Rs 7,21,400 and CNG at Rs 7,32,700.
Toyota Glanza
One variant, the E MT, at Rs 6.73 lakh on Toyota's online Delhi price list. Toyota's brochure certifies 22.35 km/l, which is 1.45 km/l behind the Baleno it is based on. We did not verify the E grade's equipment line by line, so it is listed here and not recommended over the Baleno Delta.
Renault Kwid
From Rs 4,52,900. Renault's brochure limits six airbags to the Climber trim and prints no mileage figure. Hill start assist is on the AMT only.
How this list was built and what was not verified
Every price was read on 13 October 2026 from the manufacturer's own price page or price service, set to Delhi. Power, torque, mileage, boot and feature availability by variant come from each model's current brochure; the Alto K10 and S-Presso brochures are image-only, so their tables were read from rendered pages. Crash scores come from the Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP reports linked in the text.
Three things we could not verify from manufacturer sources: the Kwid's AMT price, the Glanza E's full equipment list, and certified mileage for the Tiago, Altroz and Grand i10 Nios. Boot volume is not printed in the Alto K10 or S-Presso brochure, so none is quoted. The Citroen C3 is left out because Citroen's site did not give us per-variant prices to test.
