Market position
Mahindra is India's leading SUV specialist, commanding strong volumes across body-on-frame and monocoque utility vehicles from entry-level to near-premium segments.
India strategy
Mahindra & Mahindra has positioned itself as India's dominant SUV specialist, offering an all-utility lineup spanning petrol, diesel, and electric powertrains across its XUV, Thar, Scorpio, and Bolero sub-brands. The current ICE portfolio includes the XUV 3XO, XUV 7XO, Scorpio N, Scorpio Classic, Thar, Thar Roxx, Bolero, and Bolero Neo — covering compact SUVs through full-size body-on-frame workhorses. Engines range from a 1.2-litre turbo petrol to a 2.2-litre diesel mTurbo, with manual and automatic gearbox options and available 4WD on select models.
On the electric front, Mahindra launched its born-electric INGLO platform in 2024–25, underpinning the BE 6, XEV 9e, XEV 9S, and XUV 3XO EV. These models target the ₹14–30 lakh segment and are manufactured at Mahindra's Chakan plant in Pune. The company has set an internal target of 5,000 EV units per month (claimed) and is exploring range-extender hybrid technology for its BEV lineup, alongside a series-parallel hybrid system for ICE models such as the XUV 3XO.
In May 2026, Mahindra announced an expanded roadmap of 16 new launches by 2031 — 10 ICE models and 6 EVs — more than doubling its earlier 2024 target. Nine of the ICE launches will carry all-new nameplates, many expected to ride the new NU_IQ platform revealed in August 2025. Four concept SUVs — Vision S, Vision X, Vision T, and Vision SXT — previewed production models due around 2027, slotting under the XUV, Thar, and Scorpio sub-brands.
Mahindra's manufacturing footprint includes plants at Nashik, Chakan (Pune), and Haridwar, with the Chakan facility serving as the hub for its electric vehicle production. The company holds a strong rural and semi-urban presence through its Bolero and Scorpio nameplates while aggressively expanding its premium urban SUV credentials with the XUV and BE/XEV series. Hybrid powertrains — both series and range-extender configurations — are under active development and are expected to further broaden the brand's appeal as the Indian market transitions.
