Premium MPVs With Multi-Zone Climate Control in India: Zones by Variant

Premium MPVs With Multi-Zone Climate Control in India: Zones by Variant

On the Invicto and Innova Hycross, multi-zone means a front zone plus one automatic rear zone, and only the top grades have it: the Invicto Alpha Plus 7S and the Hycross ZX and ZX(O). The Invicto Zeta Plus and the Hycross GX(O), VX and VX(O) have an automatic rear blower with roof vents but no second temperature zone. Three-zone systems start with the Kia Carnival at Rs 59,64,900. The Kia Carens Clavis, Clavis EV and BYD eMAX 7 list no zone count at all.

Five premium MPVs on sale in India give rear passengers a climate zone of their own, going by what the manufacturers publish. Two have two zones, front and rear: the Maruti Suzuki Invicto Alpha Plus 7S at Rs 28,70,500 and the Toyota Innova Hycross ZX and ZX(O). Three list three zones: the Kia Carnival Limousine Plus at Rs 59,64,900, the MG M9 at Rs 79,94,800 and the Toyota Vellfire. The cheapest of the five with a published price is the Invicto Alpha Plus.

A caution about the word itself. "Multi-zone" on the Invicto and the Hycross means a front zone plus one separate automatic zone for the rear cabin. Neither brochure claims separate driver and passenger temperatures up front. And on both cars the feature is fitted to the top grades only. The lower variants have rear air conditioning with its own blower, which is a different and lesser thing.

Key takeaways

  • Invicto: the brochure grid lists the rear air conditioner as "Automatic Climate Control (2nd Zone)" on the Alpha+ and "Automatic Blower control" on the Zeta+. Only the Alpha Plus 7S, at Rs 28,70,500, has the second zone.
  • Innova Hycross: the same split. "Automatic Climate Control [2nd Zone]" is on the ZX and ZX(O); the GX(O), VX and VX(O) get automatic blower control and the two base grades a manual blower. Toyota publishes no ex-showroom prices.
  • Kia Carnival and MG M9 are single-variant cars, so three-zone climate control is standard on both.
  • Toyota's Vellfire brochure does not state a zone count. Toyota's showroom page lists "Tri-zone AC controls", and that is the only first-party wording we found.
  • The Kia Carens Clavis, Kia Carens Clavis EV and BYD eMAX 7 have rear vents, but their makers list no second climate zone.

Prices are ex-showroom, read from each manufacturer's own website on 13 October 2026. Climate control wording is quoted from each maker's brochure, except the Vellfire's, which comes from Toyota's showroom page.

How this list was built and what could not be verified

We read the feature grid in each manufacturer's brochure and looked for one of two things: an explicit zone count, or a rear air conditioner described as automatic climate control with its own zone. A rear blower, however good, did not count. Nor did roof vents by themselves, since vents move air but do not hold a second temperature.

"Premium" here means MPVs whose qualifying variant costs roughly Rs 25 lakh and up. None of the cheaper MPVs we checked lists it.

What we could not verify:

  • Toyota prices. Toyota publishes no ex-showroom price list in India, so the Hycross ZX, ZX(O) and both Vellfire grades have no price in the table. Figures quoted for them elsewhere could not be traced to Toyota and are not repeated here.
  • The Vellfire's zone count by grade. The India brochure covers the Hi and the VIP Executive Lounge and never mentions climate zones. The "Tri-zone AC controls" line on Toyota's showroom page sits beside the detachable rear control device and does not say which grade it applies to.
  • Whether the front zone splits left and right on the Invicto and Hycross. Neither brochure says so, and we have assumed it does not.
  • Cooling performance. Zone counts are specification facts. How quickly the third row cools on a 42 degree afternoon is not something a brochure tells you, and we have not measured it.

Two zones: Invicto and Innova Hycross

These two share a platform and a hybrid system, and their climate hardware follows the same pattern grade by grade.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto

Invicto variantEx-showroom priceFront air conditionerRear air conditioner
Zeta Plus 7SRs 25,02,400Automatic climate controlAutomatic blower control
Zeta Plus 8SRs 25,37,300Automatic climate controlAutomatic blower control
Alpha Plus 7SRs 28,70,500Automatic climate controlAutomatic climate control (2nd zone)

NEXA's brochure prose describes the car as having "front and rear Multi-zone Climate Control". The grid underneath shows that the claim is true of the Alpha+ column only. On the Zeta+, the rear unit adjusts its fan speed automatically but has no separate temperature zone.

Roof-mounted vents for the second and third rows are on every variant, so a Zeta Plus is not short of airflow at the back. What the Alpha Plus adds is a rear cabin that holds its own set temperature. The Alpha Plus also swaps the standard cabin filter for a PM 2.5 filter and the plain green windshield for an acoustic, IR-cut one, both of which help the system on a hot day.

The Rs 3,68,100 gap between Zeta Plus 7S and Alpha Plus is not the price of a climate zone. The same step brings ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, a powered driver seat with memory, a 360 view camera, parking sensors front and rear, and tyre pressure monitoring. The Zeta+ has none of these, and the missing parking sensors are the omission we would mind most on a 4,755 mm car.

Every Invicto uses the same 1,987 cc strong hybrid with a total system output of 139 kW (188.9 PS), an e-CVT and a claimed 22.16 km/l. Six airbags are standard and the car carries a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. It offers no driver assistance package on any variant, which the Hycross ZX(O), the Carnival, the M9 and the Vellfire all do.

Toyota Innova Hycross

Toyota's brochure calls the feature "Multi-zone AC (Front & Rear)" and tags it first-in-segment. The specification grid breaks down like this.

Hycross gradesPowertrainRear air conditioner
G-SLF, GXPetrolManual blower control
GX(O)PetrolAutomatic blower control
VX, VX(O)HybridAutomatic blower control
ZX, ZX(O)HybridAutomatic climate control [2nd zone] with pollution filter

So two of seven grades qualify, both hybrids and both seven-seaters with powered ottoman captain seats in the second row. The ZX and ZX(O) are also the grades with ventilated front seats and a power back door. Toyota Safety Sense is on the ZX(O) alone.

The hybrid makes 139 kW, which Toyota prints as 183.7 HP, and claims 22.16 km/l. That is the same system as the Invicto's, quoted in a different unit.

Because Toyota gives no prices, we cannot tell you from Toyota's pages how much more a Hycross ZX costs than an Invicto Alpha Plus. Since the Alpha Plus has a published price and a similar equipment list minus the ottoman seats and the ADAS option, it is the natural benchmark to carry into a Toyota showroom.

Three zones: Carnival, M9 and Vellfire

A third zone normally means the driver and front passenger each set their own temperature, with the rear cabin as the third. All three cars here are a size class above the Invicto, with sliding doors and lounge-style second rows. The two with a published price cost more than double the Invicto Alpha Plus.

Kia Carnival

One variant, the Limousine Plus, at Rs 59,64,900. Kia's brochure lists "Independently Controlled 3-zone Fully Automatic Temperature Control", second-row roof vents with their own controls and third-row roof vents.

The seats do some of the climate work as well. The front pair have ventilation and heating, and so do the second-row powered relaxation seats. A wide dual electric sunroof, sunshade curtains for the second and third rows and eight airbags are part of the single specification. The engine is a 2.2 litre diesel making 142 kW with an 8-speed automatic, the only diesel here. Kia's brochure prints no fuel-efficiency figure for it.

Seating is seven, in a 2+2+3 layout.

MG M9

An electric seven-seater sold through MG Select in one Presidential Limo specification at Rs 79,94,800. The brochure says "3 Zone AC" and describes individual climate control, with a PM 2.5 filter that shows air quality and humidity readings.

Front and rear seats are listed with heating, ventilation and massage. The roof has a single electric sunroof at the front and a panoramic electric sunroof at the rear. MG quotes a 90 kWh battery, 548 km on the MIDC cycle, 245 PS and 350 Nm, and fits seven airbags.

An electric MPV has one practical edge for chauffeur use: the air conditioning can run while parked without an engine idling. Our guide to chauffeur-driven MPVs in India looks at that buyer in more detail.

Toyota Vellfire

The Vellfire is the least documented of the five on this particular feature. Its India brochure lists two grades, Hi and VIP Executive Lounge, a 2.5 litre hybrid with 142 kW (193 PS) and 240 Nm, six airbags, power sunblinds for the rear, and second-row captain seats with ottoman and massage. It says nothing about the number of climate zones.

Toyota's showroom page does list "Tri-zone AC controls", so we have included the car on that basis, with the source marked in the table. If the zone count matters to you, ask the dealer to show it on the grade you are buying. The independently operable dual sunroof, by the brochure's footnote, is for the VIP grade only.

No ex-showroom price is published.

MPVs that are sometimes described as multi-zone and are not

A few cars get credited with the feature in listings, and their makers' documents do not support it.

  • Invicto Zeta Plus and Hycross GX(O), VX and VX(O): automatic front climate control and an automatic rear blower. One temperature, two fan controls.
  • Kia Carens Clavis and Clavis EV: the Clavis brochure lists a fully automatic air conditioner, and both brochures list roof-flushed second and third row vents with a 4-stage speed control. No zone count in either.
  • BYD eMAX 7: "Automatic air-conditioning" on both Comfort and Superior, with upper AC vents. No zone count.
  • Maruti Suzuki Ertiga: automatic front AC on the ZXi and ZXi+, with a 3-stage control for the third-row AC. It is a blower control, and the Ertiga is not a premium MPV in any case.

None of this makes them poor at cooling. For a family that mostly travels together and agrees on a temperature, a strong rear blower with roof vents does the job. A second zone earns its money when the rear passengers want it colder than the driver does, which in a chauffeur-driven car is most days. For long-distance use, our family road trip MPV guide weighs rear comfort alongside range and luggage space.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the cheapest premium MPV with multi-zone climate control?

Among those with a published price, the Maruti Suzuki Invicto Alpha Plus 7S at Rs 28,70,500 ex-showroom. The Toyota Innova Hycross ZX also has a second zone, but Toyota publishes no ex-showroom price to compare.

How many climate zones does the Maruti Invicto have?

Two on the Alpha Plus, one for the front and one for the rear cabin, which the brochure lists as "Automatic Climate Control (2nd Zone)". The Zeta Plus has automatic climate control at the front and an automatic rear blower without a separate zone.

Does the Invicto Zeta Plus have rear AC?

Yes. It has a rear air conditioner with automatic blower control and roof-mounted vents for the second and third rows. It does not have the separate rear temperature zone of the Alpha Plus.

Which Innova Hycross variants have multi-zone AC?

The ZX and ZX(O). Toyota's grid shows "Automatic Climate Control [2nd Zone]" for those two grades and blower control for the five below them.

Which MPVs have three-zone climate control?

The Kia Carnival and the MG M9 both state three zones in their brochures. Toyota's showroom page lists tri-zone AC controls for the Vellfire, though the Vellfire brochure does not mention zones.

Is dual-zone the same as multi-zone?

Carmakers use the terms loosely. On the Invicto and Hycross, "multi-zone" means two zones split front and rear. On many cars "dual-zone" means driver and passenger. Read the feature grid for the word "zone" and for where the split is, and ignore the headline label.

Do three-row SUVs offer this too?

Some do, but they are SUVs, not MPVs, and we have not checked their brochures for this article.
