Which Mid-Size SUV Has a Gesture-Controlled Power Tailgate? Variants and Prices (2026)

Which Mid-Size SUV Has a Gesture-Controlled Power Tailgate? Variants and Prices (2026)

Maruti's brochure describes the Victoris function as a swipe of the foot and fits it to every ZXI, ZXI (O), ZXI+ and ZXI+ (O), from Rs 13,61,900 to Rs 19,98,900. The LXI and VXI, including the Rs 16,42,900 VXI strong hybrid, do not get it. Maruti publishes nothing further on how the sensor works and the owner's manual was not available to check. The Duster is cheaper for a motorised tailgate but Renault does not describe a foot gesture. Prices for the Tata Curvv Accomplished X+ and Sierra Accomplished+ could not be read from Tata's site.

The Maruti Victoris is the mid-size SUV to look at first: its manufacturer states in writing that the powered tailgate opens with a foot gesture, and it does so from the ZXI petrol manual at Rs 13,61,900. Tata offers one on the top Curvv Accomplished X+ and Sierra Accomplished+, whose prices we could not read, and on the Harrier from the Fearless X+ at Rs 22,34,990. The Renault Duster (from Rs 12,99,000) and MG Hector Savvy Pro (Rs 19,64,800) have powered tailgates without a gesture function described by their makers. The Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara do not have a powered tailgate at all.

Prices are ex-showroom from the manufacturers' websites on 13 October 2026. Maruti Victoris prices are for single-tone paint. Dual-tone paint adds Rs 15,400 on the ZXI and above, except on the ZXI+ (O) Strong Hybrid, which is Rs 19,98,900 in either finish. Fitment is from each manufacturer's brochure. Tata's price page showed one price per trim on its default view, which did not include the Curvv Accomplished X+ or Sierra Accomplished+.

Every Victoris variant with the gesture tailgate

Maruti's feature grid ticks "Smart Powered Tailgate with Gesture Control" for the ZXI, ZXI (O), ZXI+ and ZXI+ (O) and attaches no engine or gearbox condition. That is 15 variants. Prices are from Maruti's Arena price page.

The six variants without it are the LXI MT (Rs 10,49,900), LXI CNG (Rs 11,54,900), VXI MT (Rs 11,84,900), VXI CNG (Rs 12,89,900), VXI AT (Rs 13,40,900) and VXI strong hybrid (Rs 16,42,900).

Two buying consequences follow from that list. If you want an automatic, the VXI AT misses the tailgate and the ZXI AT has it for Rs 1,77,000 more, a step that also brings LED projector headlamps, alloy wheels and a wireless charger. If you want the strong hybrid, the entry VXI goes without and the ZXI hybrid costs Rs 1,42,000 more.

How the gesture works

Maruti's brochure gives one sentence: "Hands full? Just a swipe with your foot makes access to the boot effortless." So it is a foot-swipe sensor at the rear of the car, the usual arrangement for hands-free tailgates.

That is all Maruti publishes in the brochure. It does not say where under the bumper to aim, whether the key has to be on you, whether the same swipe closes the tailgate, or whether the opening height can be set. Systems of this kind normally need the key within a short distance of the rear bumper, but we could not find the Victoris owner's manual online to confirm it for this car, and we would sooner say so than guess. A two-minute test at the showroom, key in pocket and both hands occupied, will tell you more than the brochure does.

How the alternatives compare

Tata Curvv, Sierra and Harrier

Tata's Curvv brochure puts it plainly: "Gesture controlled powered tailgate. Let the feet talk." It is fitted to the Accomplished X+ alone, which comes with the DCA gearbox. The Sierra lists "Powered Tailgate with Gesture Control" on its top Accomplished+, and the Harrier adds a "Gesture Controlled Powered Tailgate" at the Fearless X+, from Rs 22,34,990.

On all three it is a top-trim feature, where the Victoris offers it from the middle of its range and with a manual gearbox. We could not read prices for the Curvv Accomplished X+ or Sierra Accomplished+ on Tata's site. For scale, the Curvv Accomplished X one step down is Rs 13,99,990 and has a manual tailgate, and Tata says the Sierra range tops out at Rs 21.29 lakh.

Renault Duster

The Duster's electric powered tailgate starts at the adventure trim, from Rs 12,99,000, which undercuts the Victoris ZXI by Rs 62,900. Renault's brochure says it is "designed for fluid, hands-free operation" and opens "at a single touch", and it never mentions a foot or kick sensor. If you need a motorised tailgate at the lowest price, this is the car. If the gesture is the point, confirm it in person before paying.

MG Hector

Powered tailgate on the Savvy Pro only, at Rs 19,64,800 for the CVT. The "gesture control" in MG's brochure is the i-SWIPE touchscreen function. No kick sensor is described.

The ones without

Hyundai's Creta brochure lists an "electric tailgate release" on every variant, an electric latch on a manually lifted door. Honda lists an "electrical tailgate lock" on the Elevate. The Kia Seltos 2026 key features list, the Volkswagen Taigun feature tables, Toyota's Hyryder specification brochure and Maruti's Grand Vitara brochure contain no powered tailgate. Mahindra's Thar Roxx has a split tailgate with no powered operation listed.

What was and was not verified

Checked against the manufacturer's brochure and price page on 13 October 2026: the Victoris, Duster, Hector, Harrier, Creta, Seltos, Elevate, Taigun, Hyryder, Grand Vitara and Thar Roxx, plus the variant fitment for the Curvv and Sierra.

Not verified: prices for the Curvv Accomplished X+ and Sierra Accomplished+; the Skoda Kushaq, whose brochure is behind a request form; and anything about how the Victoris sensor behaves beyond Maruti's one-line description. Larger SUVs such as the Hyundai Tucson and Tata Safari are outside the mid-size scope here.
