Best Hatchbacks With 6 Airbags Under Rs 15 Lakh in India (2026)
India's hatchback market tops out around Rs 12 lakh, so a Rs 15 lakh budget does not unlock different cars than a Rs 10 lakh one. What it unlocks is the top variant of each, which is where the 360-degree cameras, sunroofs and the Baleno's Level 2+ assistance live. It does not buy a better crash rating: only the Altroz and Baleno have a current Bharat NCAP result, and the Altroz is the only hatchback on sale with 5 stars.
Eight hatchbacks come with six airbags on every variant and stay under Rs 15 lakh even at the top of their ranges. The Tata Altroz has the strongest crash result, 5 stars at Bharat NCAP with 29.65 out of 32 for adults and 44.90 out of 49 for children. The Maruti Baleno is the only one offering driver assistance, and the Tata Tiago.ev is the only electric option.
Here is what the Rs 15 lakh ceiling actually buys you. India's hatchback market effectively tops out around Rs 12 lakh, so this budget does not open up different cars than a Rs 10 lakh one would. What it opens up is the top variant of each car, and that is where the 360-degree cameras, sunroofs, ventilated seats and, on the Baleno, the driver-assistance suite actually live.

Note on the Baleno score. Bharat NCAP published two results for the previous Baleno in June 2025, from an April 2024 assessment. The six-airbag version scored 26.52 out of 32, and the two-airbag version 24.04. Since every current Baleno has six airbags, 26.52 is the figure that applies here. The September 2026 facelift has not been tested.
The eight in detail
Everything below describes each car's top variant, which is what this budget reaches.
1. Tata Altroz
The only 5-star hatchback on sale, and its rating covers the petrol, diesel and CNG families, so the result applies whichever fuel you pick. That breadth is rare.
Three engines: a 1.2 Revotron petrol with 88 PS and 115 Nm, a 1.2 CNG with 74 PS and 103 Nm, and a 1.5 Revotorq diesel with 90 PS and 200 Nm, returning roughly 18 to 23 km/l and up to 27.8 km/kg on CNG.
The top variant brings a 360-degree surround view system with blind-spot monitoring, an electric sunroof, a 10.25-inch touchscreen and digital cluster, a wireless charger and an air purifier, on top of stability control, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring and ISOFIX. There is no ADAS at any price.
2. Maruti Baleno
The only hatchback here with driver assistance. Maruti's brochure badges it ADAS Level 2+, covering adaptive cruise control with curve speed reduction, lane keep assist, lane departure warning and prevention, vehicle sway warning, autonomous emergency braking that recognises cars, motorcycles, pedestrians and bicycles, forward collision warning and high beam assist. It sits on the Alpha (O) manual and automatic, topping the range at Rs 9.99 lakh.
The Z12E 1.2 makes 61 kW (82.93 PS) and 112.4 Nm, dropping to 51.3 kW (69.75 PS) and 101.8 Nm in CNG mode. Claimed mileage is 23.80 km/l manual and 24.77 km/l automatic, with 33.61 and 34.47 km/kg on CNG.
Six airbags are standard, with stability control and hill hold, brake assist, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display and ventilated front seats on the top trims.
3. Hyundai i20
The one car here whose range genuinely extends past Rs 11 lakh, reaching Rs 11.64 lakh on the N Line. The 1.2 petrol makes 83 PS with the manual and 88 PS with the iVT, both 114.7 Nm, claiming 20.35 and 19.65 km/l. The N Line uses a 1.0 turbo with 120 PS and 172 Nm and adds disc brakes at all four wheels.
Stability control with vehicle stability management, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring, rear sensors and camera. The top trims add an electric sunroof, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a wireless charger and an air purifier. No Bharat NCAP result.
4. Maruti Swift
Six airbags standard across all variants, confirmed in Maruti's brochure. The Z12E 1.2 makes 61 kW (82.93 PS) at 5700 rpm and 112.4 Nm at 4500 rpm, the same tune as the Baleno, and 51.3 kW (69.75 PS) with 101.8 Nm in CNG mode.
The mileage figures are where the Swift stands out, and where the published numbers are most often wrong. Maruti's brochure claims 25.35 km/l manual and 26.25 km/l automatic on petrol, and 35.07 km/kg manual and 35.34 km/kg automatic on CNG. That CNG figure is the highest of any hatchback on sale, ahead of the Baleno's 34.47. A 32.85 km/kg figure still appears widely, including on Maruti's own Swift page, and it is out of date.
Stability control, ABS with EBD, rear camera and sensors, ISOFIX and belt pre-tensioners, with cruise control and a wireless charger higher up. No current crash-test result.
5. Toyota Glanza
Related to the Baleno but specified separately. The 1.2 K-series makes 90 PS and 113 Nm, the CNG 77.5 PS and 98.5 Nm, claiming 22.35 km/l manual, 22.94 km/l automatic and 30.61 km/kg on CNG.
The top variant adds a 360-degree camera and a head-up display to vehicle stability control, hill hold, brake assist, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX and three-point belts with reminders for all five seats. No Bharat NCAP result and no ADAS.
6. Tata Tiago
The cheapest entry at Rs 4.77 lakh and comfortably inside the ceiling at its top trim. The 1.2 Revotron makes 86 PS and 113 Nm, the iCNG 73.4 PS, returning roughly 19 to 20 km/l and 26.5 to 28 km/kg.
The top variant brings a 360-degree camera with blind view monitor, dual wireless chargers, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlamps, with stability control, hill hold and tyre pressure monitoring underneath. Its only crash result is an older Global NCAP score from 2020, run under the previous protocol on a different specification.
7. Tata Tiago.ev
The only electric hatchback here with six airbags on every variant. A 19.2 kWh battery gives 61 PS and 110 Nm for a claimed 226 km, and a 24 kWh battery 75 PS and 114 Nm for 285 km. DC fast charging at up to 30 kW adds about 100 km in 18 minutes.
A 360-degree camera, rear camera, stability program and traction control, with a 12.7-inch digital driver's display and a six-way powered driver's seat on the top trim. Bharat NCAP has not tested it.
8. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios
The 1.2 Kappa makes 83 PS and 114 Nm and the Bi-Fuel CNG 69 PS and 95 Nm, claiming about 18 km/l and 27 km/kg. Stability control with vehicle stability management, tyre pressure monitoring, rear sensors, ISOFIX and three-point belts throughout, with a wireless charger, cruise control and automatic climate control on the higher trims. No Bharat NCAP result.
What this budget actually changes
Two things, and neither is the airbag count.
You reach the top variant. Every car here fits six airbags from the base up, so moving from a Rs 8 lakh budget to Rs 15 lakh buys equipment rather than protection: the 360-degree cameras on the Altroz, Glanza, Tiago and Tiago.ev, the sunroofs, and on the Baleno the entire ADAS suite.
It does not buy you a better crash rating. Only two of these eight have a current Bharat NCAP result at all. The Altroz's 5 stars and the Baleno's 4 and 3 are the only measured numbers on this page, and the Altroz is the only one that clears 29 out of 32 for adults.
