Best Hatchbacks With 6 Airbags Under Rs 10 Lakh in India (2026)
Six airbags are now standard from the base variant on all eight of these hatchbacks. Only three have a current crash-test result: the Altroz at 5 stars, the Baleno at 4 and 3, and the Celerio at Global NCAP. The other five either have no rating or carry older Global NCAP scores run before six airbags became standard. On mileage, the Maruti Swift claims 35.07 km/kg manual and 35.34 km/kg automatic on CNG, which makes it the most efficient CNG hatchback here; the 32.85 figure still circulating, including on Maruti's own Swift page, is out of date.
Eight hatchbacks under Rs 10 lakh come with six airbags on every variant. The Tata Altroz has much the best crash result of them, 5 stars from Bharat NCAP at 29.65 out of 32 for adults and 44.90 out of 49 for children. The Maruti Baleno is next with 4 stars for adults and 3 for children, and it is the only one offering driver assistance at this money. The Tata Tiago starts cheapest at Rs 4.77 lakh.
Six airbags means two front, two side and two curtain, covering frontal, side and rollover impacts. On every car below they are standard from the base variant up, which was not true of this segment two years ago.

One note on the Baleno score. Bharat NCAP published two results for the previous Baleno in June 2025, one for a two-airbag version and one for a six-airbag version. The figure above, 26.52 out of 32, is the six-airbag result, which is the relevant one here. The two-airbag car scored 24.04.
The eight in detail
Equipment described is for the highest variant available under Rs 10 lakh, which on some cars is not the model's top trim.
1. Tata Altroz
The only 5-star car here, and the rating is unusually broad: Bharat NCAP's applicability list covers the petrol, diesel and CNG families, so the result holds whichever fuel you choose.
The 1.2 Revotron petrol makes 88 PS and 115 Nm, the 1.2 CNG 74 PS and 103 Nm, and the 1.5 Revotorq diesel 90 PS and 200 Nm. Mileage runs roughly 18 to 23 km/l on petrol and diesel, with up to 27.8 km/kg on CNG. Stability control, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring, a 360-degree surround view system, rear parking sensors and ISOFIX, with three-point belts for all passengers. No ADAS at any price.
2. Maruti Baleno
The only hatchback here with driver assistance under Rs 10 lakh. Maruti's brochure badges the system ADAS Level 2+, covering adaptive cruise control with curve speed reduction, lane keep assist, lane departure warning and prevention, vehicle sway warning, autonomous emergency braking that recognises cars, motorcycles, pedestrians and bicycles, forward collision warning and high beam assist. It sits on the Alpha (O) variants, which top the range at Rs 9.99 lakh.
The Z12E 1.2 petrol makes 61 kW (82.93 PS) and 112.4 Nm, dropping to 51.3 kW (69.75 PS) and 101.8 Nm in CNG mode. Claimed mileage is 23.80 km/l manual, 24.77 km/l automatic, and 33.61 and 34.47 km/kg for the CNG manual and automatic.
Six airbags are standard on the current car, along with stability control with hill hold, brake assist, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX, a 360-degree camera and a high-speed alert. Worth knowing: the Bharat NCAP result belongs to the previous Baleno, and the September 2026 facelift has not been tested.
3. Maruti Celerio
The cheapest Maruti here and the CNG mileage leader among small hatchbacks. The 1.0 K10C makes 68.5 PS and 91.1 Nm, and 56.7 PS in CNG mode, claiming 24.97 to 25.24 km/l manual, 26.00 km/l automatic and 34.43 km/kg on CNG.
Its Global NCAP result, 3 stars for adults at 18.04 out of 34 and 2 for children at 18.57 out of 49, is the weakest crash score on this list and worth weighing against the running costs. Stability control, ABS with EBD, hill hold, front belt pre-tensioners with force limiters, three-point belts for all rear seats, reverse sensors and impact-sensing door unlock.
4. Maruti Swift
Six airbags standard across all variants, confirmed in Maruti's brochure. The Z12E 1.2 petrol makes 61 kW (82.93 PS) at 5700 rpm and 112.4 Nm at 4500 rpm, the same tune as the Baleno, and in CNG mode 51.3 kW (69.75 PS) and 101.8 Nm.
The mileage figures are the Swift's strongest card and are frequently misquoted. Maruti's brochure claims 25.35 km/l manual and 26.25 km/l automatic on petrol, and 35.07 km/kg manual and 35.34 km/kg automatic on CNG. That CNG figure makes the Swift the most fuel-efficient CNG hatchback on sale, ahead of the Baleno's 34.47 and the Celerio's 34.43. An older 32.85 km/kg figure still circulates widely, including on Maruti's own Swift web page, and it is out of date.
Stability control, ABS with EBD, cruise control, rear camera and sensors, ISOFIX and belt pre-tensioners. The current Swift has no Bharat NCAP result.
5. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios
The 1.2 Kappa petrol makes 83 PS and 114 Nm, the Bi-Fuel CNG 69 PS and 95 Nm, claiming about 18 km/l and 27 km/kg. Stability control with vehicle stability management, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX, rear sensors and three-point belts throughout.
No Bharat NCAP rating. Its Global NCAP result from 2020 was run under the older protocol on a car with fewer airbags, so it says little about the current version.
6. Hyundai i20
Under Rs 10 lakh you reach the 1.2 petrol, 83 PS with the manual and 88 PS with the iVT, making 114.7 Nm, claiming 20.35 and 19.65 km/l. Stability control, hill start assist, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring, rear sensors and camera, with an electric sunroof and cruise control on the qualifying trims. No Bharat NCAP result for the current car.
7. Toyota Glanza
Mechanically close to the Baleno but a separate specification. The 1.2 K-series makes 90 PS and 113 Nm, the CNG 77.5 PS and 98.5 Nm, claiming 22.35 km/l manual, 22.94 km/l automatic and 30.61 km/kg on CNG.
Vehicle stability control, hill hold, brake assist, ABS with EBD, three-point belts with reminders for all five seats, ISOFIX, rear sensors and a 360-degree camera. No Bharat NCAP rating, and no ADAS under Rs 10 lakh.
8. Tata Tiago
The cheapest entry at Rs 4.77 lakh. The 1.2 Revotron makes 86 PS and 113 Nm and the iCNG 73.4 PS, returning roughly 19 to 20 km/l and 26.5 to 28 km/kg. Stability control, hill hold, tyre pressure monitoring, a 360-degree camera with blind view monitor and a rear camera, with dual wireless chargers and a 10.25-inch touchscreen on the higher trims.
Its Global NCAP result dates from 2020 under the older protocol and does not describe the current six-airbag car.
What the ratings do and do not cover
Five of these eight have no current crash-test result. Three of them, the Grand i10 Nios, i20 and Tiago, do have older Global NCAP scores, but those were run before six airbags became standard and under a protocol that scored adult protection out of 17 rather than 34. Treating them as a verdict on the car in the showroom today would be a mistake.
Where a current result does exist, check what it covers. The Altroz rating spans petrol, diesel and CNG. The Baleno rating applies to the previous car and to petrol trims only, so its S-CNG falls outside it.

Are the six airbags standard on every variant?
Yes, on all eight cars here, including the base variant. That is what makes every variant under Rs 10 lakh qualify.
Can I compare Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP scores?
Not directly. Adult protection is scored out of 32 at Bharat NCAP and out of 34 at Global NCAP under different protocols, and older Global NCAP results used a 17-point adult scale. Read each against its own scale.
