Best 8-Seater Cars for Large Families in India (2026)

Best 8-Seater Cars for Large Families in India (2026)

The Innova Hycross has the widest 8-seat choice, in petrol and strong hybrid, with six airbags on every grade. The Maruti Invicto Zeta+ 8-seater at Rs 25,37,300 is the cheapest strong hybrid 8-seater but misses parking sensors and the Alpha+ comfort features. The Innova Crysta is the only diesel, and its 8-seat GX and GX+ have three airbags. The Ertiga, Rumion and Kia Carnival are 7-seaters, and Mahindra's Bolero Neo+ and Scorpio Classic S seat 9 on side-facing rear seats.

Only three cars on sale in India have a factory 8-seat variant: the Toyota Innova Hycross (five grades, from Rs 19,58,000 for the GX petrol), the Toyota Innova Crysta (GX at Rs 19,99,000, diesel manual only) and the Maruti Suzuki Invicto (one variant, the Zeta+ 8-seater at Rs 25,37,300). The Hycross has the widest choice, the Invicto 8-seater is the cheapest way into a strong hybrid with 22.16 km/l, and the Crysta is the only diesel.

Everything else sold as a "big family car" seats 6, 7 or 9. The Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Rumion are 7-seaters, the Kia Carnival is now a 7-seater, and the Mahindra Bolero Neo+ and Scorpio Classic S go to 9 with side-facing rear seats. That last group needs a caveat, which is further down.

Prices were checked on 13 October 2026. Maruti's figure is from the NEXA price page. Toyota's are from the price list tool on its own website, read for a New Delhi dealer, and exclude the Rs 14,000 to Rs 15,000 premium for Platinum White Pearl paint. Specifications are from each maker's current brochure.

How this list was built

We started from every car Indian buyers commonly call an 8-seater and opened the brochure for each one. A car made the list only if the manufacturer's own specification table shows a seating capacity of 8 on a variant you can order.

That removed more names than it kept. What we did not do: we have not driven these cars back to back for this piece, and we did not measure third-row space ourselves. Toyota prints no fuel-efficiency figure for the Innova Crysta in its brochure or specification sheet, so that cell stays empty instead of carrying an aggregator's number. Toyota's price tool also returns no price for the Crysta G grade, so we quote the Crysta from the GX up.

1. Toyota Innova Hycross

The Hycross is the easiest 8-seater to recommend because you get a real choice. Toyota's brochure lists "7/8" seat options on the G fleet grade, GX, GX(O), VX and VX(O). Only the top ZX and ZX(O) are 7-seat only, because they carry the powered ottoman captain seats.

Toyota's Delhi price list for the 8-seat versions:

GradePowertrain8-seat price
GX2.0 petrol, CVTRs 19,58,000
GX(O)2.0 petrol, CVTRs 20,84,000
VX2.0 strong hybridRs 26,81,000
VX(O)2.0 strong hybridRs 28,82,000

The G fleet grade 8-seater is listed at Rs 18,75,000, but it comes with steel wheels and an 80 km/h speed limiter, so it is not a family buy.

The 8-seat layout uses a 60:40 split second-row bench with walk-in slide and a centre armrest with cupholders. The third row is a 50:50 split, and Toyota lists reclining for both rear rows.

The petrol makes 126 kW and 204 Nm and is certified at 16.13 km/l. The hybrid makes 139 kW and is certified at 22.16 km/l. That gap is large: on the same 52-litre tank the arithmetic gives roughly 840 km for the petrol and 1,150 km for the hybrid. The hybrid also costs about Rs 6 lakh more than the GX(O), so the fuel saving takes a long time to pay back unless you drive a lot.

Six airbags, vehicle stability control with hill start assist, an electric parking brake with auto hold, all-round disc brakes and two ISOFIX positions are on every grade. Bharat NCAP rated the Hycross 5 stars, with 30.47 out of 32 for adult protection and 45 out of 49 for child protection.

Where the 8-seater loses out: the GX has manual air conditioning and no parking sensors, the panoramic sunroof arrives only on the VX(O), and Toyota Safety Sense is reserved for the 7-seat ZX(O). If you want the driver-assistance features, you cannot have eight seats.

2. Toyota Innova Crysta

The Crysta is the old-school choice: a ladder-frame, rear-wheel-drive MPV with a 2.4-litre diesel making 110 kW (150 PS) and 343 Nm. It comes only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Toyota's specification sheet shows "7 / 8 Seater" on the G, GX, GX+ and VX grades, and 7 seats only on the ZX.

On Toyota's Delhi price list the 8-seat GX is Rs 19,99,000, the GX+ is Rs 21,47,000 and the VX is Rs 25,29,000.

The thing to check is the airbag count. The GX and GX+ have three airbags (driver, front passenger and driver knee). Side and curtain airbags, taking the count to seven, come only on the VX and ZX. That makes the properly protected 8-seat Crysta a Rs 25.29 lakh car, which is close to Invicto money. ABS with EBD and brake assist, vehicle stability control and hill start assist are standard across the range.

The GX and GX+ also have manual air conditioning. Automatic climate control, cruise control, push-button start and seat-back tables start at the VX.

We did not find the Crysta in Bharat NCAP's published ratings list, and Toyota does not print a certified mileage figure for it. Both are worth knowing before you compare it with the two hybrids.

Buy it if you need a diesel with a manual gearbox, expect heavy loads or rough roads, or want the Crysta's reputation for durability. Skip it if you want an automatic, because there isn't one.

3. Maruti Suzuki Invicto

The Invicto shares its platform and hybrid system with the Hycross and is sold through NEXA showrooms. Its brochure shows seating of "7/8" on the Zeta+ and 7 only on the Alpha+. So there is exactly one 8-seat Invicto, the Zeta+ 8-seater at Rs 25,37,300, which is Rs 34,900 more than the Zeta+ 7-seater.

It is the cheapest strong hybrid 8-seater in the country, undercutting the Hycross VX 8-seater by about Rs 1.44 lakh. The system makes 139 kW (188.9 PS), with an 83.73 kW, 206 Nm motor, and Maruti certifies 22.16 km/l on all three variants.

The 8-seat layout is a 60:40 split second row with walk-in slide and recline and a centre armrest with cup holders, plus a 50:50 split reclining third row. You also get automatic climate control in front with automatic blower control for the rear, roof-mounted vents for rows two and three, second-row sunshades, paddle shifters and cruise control.

Safety equipment on the Zeta+ includes six airbags, vehicle stability control with hill start assist, an electric parking brake with auto hold, front and rear disc brakes, ISOFIX and a rear view camera. Bharat NCAP gave the Invicto 5 stars, with 30.43 out of 32 for adults and 45 out of 49 for children, and the rating lists the Zeta+ 8-seater by name.

The weaknesses are real. The Zeta+ is the lower of two trims, so the 8-seater has fabric seats, a 20.32 cm touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and no panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, powered tailgate or powered driver's seat. More surprising at this price, the brochure shows no parking sensors, no 360 view camera and no tyre pressure monitoring on the Zeta+. All of those are on the Alpha+, which is a 7-seater. There is no ADAS on any Invicto.

Cars often called 8-seaters that are not

Maruti Suzuki XL66Captain seats only
Toyota Rumion7Brochure lists "7N Seater"
Kia Carnival7 (2+2+3)Single Limousine Plus variant, Rs 59,64,900
Mahindra Scorpio N6 or 7No 8-seat option

Mahindra Bolero Neo+9 (2+3+4)P4 Rs 11,46,000, P10 Rs 12,56,000

The two Mahindra 9-seaters do carry more people for far less money, and for some families that settles it. But they are a different kind of vehicle. Mahindra's Bolero Neo+ brochure describes the third row as fold-up side-facing seats, and the Scorpio Classic S lists its 9-seat layout as side-facing too. Both brochures list two airbags, for the driver and front passenger. Side-facing seats do not hold passengers the way forward-facing seats with three-point belts do, so we would not treat either as a like-for-like alternative to the three cars above for regular highway trips with children.

Which one to buy

For most large families the Innova Hycross GX(O) 8-seater at Rs 20,84,000 is the sensible middle: six airbags, automatic climate control, parking sensors and a petrol automatic. If your running is high, the choice is between the two hybrids, and it comes down to equipment against price. The Invicto Zeta+ is cheaper. The Hycross VX adds tyre pressure monitoring and parking sensors for Rs 1.44 lakh more.

The Crysta makes sense for diesel loyalists and rough-road use, in VX form for the seven airbags.

If you can live with seven seats, the options widen a lot. We have compared those in best 7-seater MUVs under Rs 25 lakh and looked at airbag counts in MPVs with 6 airbags.
