8 Best MPVs With 6 Airbags in India (2026)

8 Best MPVs With 6 Airbags in India (2026)

Seven of these eight MPVs fit six airbags to every variant, and the Renault Triber does it from Rs 5.81 lakh. The exception matters: the Toyota Innova Crysta has seven airbags on its VX and ZX but only three on the GX and GX+, so its headline figure covers about half the range. Only the Innova Hycross and Maruti Invicto have been crash tested, both 5 stars for adults and children, and both ratings cover every variant.

Eight MPVs in India offer six airbags or more, and seven of them fit six to every variant: the Renault Triber from Rs 5.81 lakh, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Rumion, Kia Carens Clavis, Maruti Suzuki XL6, Toyota Innova Hycross and Maruti Suzuki Invicto. Only two have been crash tested by Bharat NCAP, and both earned 5 stars: the Innova Hycross at 30.47 out of 32 and the Invicto at 30.43.

The eighth needs a closer look. The Toyota Innova Crysta has seven airbags on its VX and ZX variants and only three on the GX and GX+, so the headline figure applies to roughly half the range. On an MPV bought to carry a family, that distinction is the whole point of the question.

Key takeaways

  • The Renault Triber is the cheapest MPV with six airbags as standard, from Rs 5.81 lakh.
  • The Innova Hycross and Invicto are the only two with a Bharat NCAP rating, both 5 stars for adults and children, and both ratings cover every variant.
  • The Innova Crysta is the only one here where the base variants drop below six airbags.
  • The Carens Clavis and Innova Hycross are the only two offering Level 2 driver assistance.

The two with a crash-test result

Toyota Innova Hycross

Five stars both ways, rated in June 2025 at 30.47 out of 32 for adults and a full 45 out of 49 for children. Bharat NCAP's applicability list covers both the strong hybrid and the petrol families across their variants, so the result holds whichever powertrain you pick.

Six airbags are standard throughout. The 2.0 petrol makes 174 PS and 205 Nm with a CVT, and the 2.0 strong hybrid a combined 188.9 PS with an e-CVT, claiming 16.13 km/l and 23.24 km/l respectively.

Toyota Safety Sense brings adaptive cruise control, a pre-collision system, lane trace assist and a blind spot monitor, alongside vehicle stability control, hill-start assist, an electric parking brake with auto hold, disc brakes all round, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX and a 360-degree panoramic view monitor.

Seven-seat and eight-seat layouts are offered, with the top ZX and ZX(O) grades seven-seat only and fitted with powered ottoman captain seats in the second row.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto

Five stars at 30.43 out of 32 and 45 out of 49, rated in September 2025, with the applicability list naming the Zeta+ 8-seat, Zeta+ 7-seat and Alpha+ 7-seat, which is the whole range.

Six airbags, dual front, side and curtain, on every variant. The 2.0 strong hybrid makes a combined 188.9 PS, with 152.28 PS from the engine and 113.84 PS from the motor, and claims 22.16 km/l.

Stability control with hill-start assist, ABS with EBD, disc brakes all round, ISOFIX, an electric parking brake with auto hold, tyre pressure monitoring, a 360-degree camera and an SOS emergency call button. There is no ADAS at any price, which is the notable gap against its Toyota sibling.

Both second-row layouts get walk-in slide and recline for third-row access, and the captain seats add a side table.

The six without one

An absent rating is not evidence of a problem. It means nobody has paid to test the car, and crash-test entry in India is voluntary.

Renault Triber, Rs 5.81 lakh to Rs 9.21 lakh. The cheapest seven-seater with six airbags as standard, from the base Authentic to the top Emotion. A 1.0 petrol with 72 PS and 96 Nm, or a 1.0 turbo-petrol with 100 PS and 180 Nm, claiming 20.32 and 21 km/l. Stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, ISOFIX, tyre pressure monitoring and a rear camera. The third-row seats come out entirely, turning it into a five-seater with a proper boot.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Rs 8.90 lakh to Rs 13.14 lakh. Six airbags, front, side and curtain, on every variant from LXi to ZXi+. The 1.5 K15C petrol makes 103.06 PS and 139 Nm; in CNG mode the same engine makes 87.8 PS and 121.5 Nm. Claimed mileage is 20.51 km/l manual, 20.30 km/l automatic and 26.11 km/kg on CNG. Stability control with hill hold, ABS with EBD and brake assist, ISOFIX in the second row, tyre pressure monitoring and a rear camera. Third-row AC gets its own three-stage control.

Toyota Rumion, Rs 9.79 lakh to Rs 14.21 lakh. Mechanically the Ertiga with a Toyota badge and network, and six airbags standard across the range including the base E. Same 1.5 K15C making 103.06 PS and 139 Nm, same 87.8 PS and 121.5 Nm in CNG mode, with 20.51 km/l manual, 20.11 km/l automatic and 26.11 km/kg on CNG. Vehicle stability control, hill hold, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX, tyre pressure monitoring and a rear camera.

Kia Carens Clavis, Rs 11.27 lakh to Rs 21.67 lakh. The widest engine choice here and the only MPV under Rs 22 lakh with Level 2 assistance. Six airbags standard across petrol, diesel and CNG. A 1.5 petrol with 115 PS, a 1.5 turbo-petrol with 160 PS and 253 Nm, a 1.5 diesel with 116 PS and 250 Nm, and a 1.5 CNG with 97 PS. Claimed mileage runs 15.34 km/l on the petrol manual to 19.54 km/l on the diesel manual. Smart cruise control with stop and go, forward collision-avoidance assist, lane keep assist and blind-spot collision warning, plus a 360-degree camera with blind view monitor and disc brakes all round. Seven-seat bench or six-seat captain chairs at the same price.

Maruti Suzuki XL6, Rs 11.62 lakh to Rs 14.52 lakh. Six airbags standard from Zeta to Alpha+, in a six-seat-only layout with second-row captain chairs. The 1.5 K15C makes 103.06 PS and 139 Nm, and the CNG 87.8 PS and 121.5 Nm at 4200 rpm. Maruti's brochure claims 20.90 km/l manual, 20.27 km/l automatic and 26.23 km/kg on CNG. Stability control with hill hold, ABS with EBD and brake assist, ISOFIX, tyre pressure monitoring and a 360-degree camera.

Toyota Innova Crysta, Rs 19.72 lakh to Rs 26.63 lakh. The exception on airbag count. Seven airbags, including a driver knee airbag, on the VX and ZX from about Rs 24.93 lakh, but the GX and GX+ below that come with three. The only diesel-only MPV here, with a 2.4 making 150 PS and 343 Nm and claiming 15.1 km/l. Vehicle stability control, hill-start assist, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX, tyre pressure monitoring and a rear camera.

What to check on an MPV specifically

Two things matter more on a people carrier than on most other cars.

Curtain airbag coverage. Six airbags means two front, two side and two curtain, and on a three-row car you want the curtains running the full length of the cabin rather than stopping at the second row. Ask to see the deployment diagram, not just the number.

ISOFIX position. On most MPVs here the anchorages are in the second row only. If you plan to put a child seat in the third row, check whether that is supported at all.

Then the usual question: does your variant actually have the airbag count the brochure advertises? On the Innova Crysta specifically, the answer below VX is no.
