SUVs With the Tightest Turning Radius for City Driving, Compared Across Segments
The Maruti Fronx and Toyota Taisor have the tightest maker-published turning radius of any SUV in India at 4.9 m, followed by the Nissan Magnite at 5.0 m and the Volkswagen Taigun, the tightest mid-size SUV, at 5.05 m. The Mahindra BE 6 quotes a 10 m turning circle, about 5.0 m as a radius, and the Honda Elevate and Maruti e Vitara turn in 5.2 m. The XUV 3XO needs 5.3 m, the Grand Vitara, Victoris and Hyryder 5.4 m, and the Jimny 5.7 m. Makers publish no figure for the Brezza, Nexon, Creta, Seltos and several others.
The SUVs with the tightest maker-published turning radius in India are the Maruti Fronx and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor at 4.9 m, followed by the Nissan Magnite at 5.0 m and the Volkswagen Taigun at 5.05 m, the tightest mid-size SUV. The Mahindra BE 6 quotes a 10 m turning circle, which works out to about 5.0 m as a radius. The Honda Elevate and the electric Maruti e Vitara both turn in 5.2 m despite being well over 4.2 m long, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO needs 5.3 m. The Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris and Toyota Hyryder all sit at 5.4 m, and the Maruti Jimny, short as it is, needs 5.7 m.
This list crosses segments on purpose. Our earlier piece on the mid-size SUV with the tightest turning radius compares one class. Here compact SUVs, mid-size SUVs and EVs share one table, each with the length and wheelbase printed beside the radius, so you can see how much car you get for each tenth of a metre. Every radius is the maker's own published figure.

Not published by their makers, so not ranked: Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Venue, Hyundai Exter, Kia Seltos, Renault Kiger, Renault Duster, Mahindra Thar Roxx and MG Astor. We read each of their brochures and found no turning radius printed. The Tata Punch brochure we obtained is a single image page, so it is not on either list. Many sites quote figures for these cars; without a maker source we have left them out rather than mix them in.
What the table shows
Wheelbase predicts less than you would think
The XUV 3XO is shorter than the Fronx but needs 0.4 m more road to turn, and its 2,600 mm wheelbase, 80 mm longer than the Fronx's, explains only part of that. The e Vitara has the longest wheelbase among the Marutis here at 2,700 mm and still turns 0.2 m tighter than the Grand Vitara, which rides on 2,600 mm. The BE 6 is the extreme case: 2,775 mm between the axles and still about 5.0 m. Steering lock angle and tyre width decide as much as the wheelbase, and buyers rarely see either number. So read the radius itself, not the size of the car.
Short is not the same as nimble
The Jimny is the shortest SUV here at 3,985 mm and turns the widest at 5.7 m. Its rigid axles and off-road tyres limit how far the front wheels can steer. If narrow lanes are a daily problem, a Jimny is the wrong compact SUV, however small it looks.
The Toyota-Suzuki mid-size trio is the widest of the mainstream cars
At 5.4 m, the Grand Vitara, Victoris and Hyryder need 0.35 m more than the Taigun to turn around. In practice that is the difference between a U-turn that clears a median gap and one that needs a short reverse. It is a real weakness of these three cars for tight city use, and the honest answer for a buyer who wants a Maruti and a tight turn is the Fronx, or the e Vitara if electric suits.
The tightest SUVs, one by one
Maruti Fronx and Toyota Taisor: 4.9 m
The Fronx and Taisor are the same car under two badges, and both brochures print 4.9 m, the tightest figure here. The Fronx starts at Rs 6,89,900 for the Sigma 1.2 manual, ex-showroom, checked October 2026; Toyota's Taisor price was not available to us when we checked. Both are 3,995 mm long, so they fit basement bays that a 4.3 m mid-size SUV struggles with. For a broader shortlist of small cars built for tight streets, see our guide to small cars for narrow lanes and easy parking.
Nissan Magnite: 5.0 m
Nissan's brochure gives 5.0 m and calls it the least turning radius in its segment. The Magnite is 3,994 mm long on a 2,500 mm wheelbase, the shortest wheelbase in the table. Nissan's site lists the Magnite from Rs 5,69,400 for the Visia grade. In everyday use it turns almost as tightly as the Fronx.
Mahindra BE 6: about 5.0 m, quoted as a circle
Mahindra's brochure gives a "Turning Circle Diameter" of 10 m. A turning circle is the full width of the turn, so half of it, 5.0 m, is the comparable radius. That is our arithmetic, not a Mahindra figure, so treat it as approximate. Even so, it is a remarkable figure for a 4,371 mm EV with a 2,775 mm wheelbase. The BE 6 Sporteq line starts at Rs 19,45,000 without a charger on Mahindra's site.
Volkswagen Taigun: 5.05 m
Volkswagen prints 5.05 m, the tightest of any mid-size SUV here, on a 4,221 mm body. It is also the shortest mid-size SUV in the table, which helps in multi-level car parks as much as the radius does.
Honda Elevate and Maruti e Vitara: 5.2 m
The Elevate's brochure prints a 5.2 m "Turning Circle Radius" on a 4,312 mm body. The e Vitara brochure gives the same 5.2 m on a 4,275 mm body, and Maruti credits the long wheelbase and short overhangs. For the e Vitara that is 0.2 m tighter than any other mid-size Maruti, which makes it the Maruti SUV to pick if you want a bigger car that still turns well.
Mahindra XUV 3XO: 5.3 m
The XUV 3XO's October 2026 brochure prints 5.3 m. That is the widest figure among the compact SUVs whose makers publish one, apart from the Jimny. Mahindra lists the range from Rs 7.79 lakh on its model page.
Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris, Toyota Hyryder: 5.4 m
All three print 5.4 m on a 2,600 mm wheelbase. The Victoris starts at Rs 10,49,900 and the Grand Vitara at Rs 10,76,500; Toyota's Hyryder price was not available to us. These are roomy family SUVs and the turning circle is the price of that size. If you park in a tight basement every day, test the U-turn at your own building before you buy.
Maruti Jimny: 5.7 m
The Jimny starts at Rs 12,59,000. It is here because it is an SUV under 4 m that many buyers assume is a city car. Its 5.7 m radius says otherwise.
Choosing for city driving
For narrow lanes and old-city streets, start with the Fronx, Taisor or Magnite. For a mid-size SUV, the Taigun turns tightest, then the Elevate. For an EV, the BE 6 and e Vitara both turn tighter than most petrol mid-size SUVs. If you already prefer the Grand Vitara, Victoris or Hyryder for other reasons, expect a slightly wider U-turn, and favour a version with a 360-degree camera for the tight spots. Our guide to the best compact SUVs for daily city commuting weighs the other things a city car needs.
How this list was built
Every turning radius, length and wheelbase above comes from the maker's own brochure: Maruti's for the Fronx, Grand Vitara, Victoris, e Vitara and Jimny; Toyota's for the Taisor and Hyryder (the Hyryder's radius also appears on Toyota's live specification page); Nissan's, Volkswagen's, Honda's and Mahindra's for theirs. The BE 6 radius is half of Mahindra's published 10 m turning circle, which we flag as our conversion. Prices are ex-showroom Delhi from each maker's site, checked October 2026, and are given only where the maker published one we could read.
What we could not verify: a turning radius for the eleven SUVs named under the table, because their brochures do not print one; and Toyota prices for the Taisor and Hyryder, because Toyota's price list did not return them. Makers measure turning radius in slightly different ways, so a 0.05 m gap between two brands is not meaningful. A 0.3 m gap is.
Frequently asked questions
Which SUV has the tightest turning radius in India?
Among SUVs whose makers publish the figure, the Maruti Fronx and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor are tightest at 4.9 m. The Nissan Magnite follows at 5.0 m.
Which mid-size SUV turns the tightest?
The Volkswagen Taigun, at 5.05 m. The Honda Elevate and Maruti e Vitara follow at 5.2 m, and the Grand Vitara, Victoris and Hyryder are at 5.4 m.
What is the turning radius of the Maruti Brezza?
Maruti does not print one in the Brezza brochure, which gives the length (3,995 mm) and wheelbase (2,500 mm) but no turning radius.
Is turning radius the same as turning circle?
No. A turning circle is the diameter of the turn and a turning radius is half of it. Mahindra quotes a 10 m turning circle for the BE 6, which is roughly a 5.0 m radius.
Does a shorter SUV always turn more tightly?
No. The Jimny is the shortest SUV here and turns the widest at 5.7 m, while the BE 6, at 4,371 mm long, turns in about 5.0 m. Steering lock and axle design matter as much as length.
Which Maruti SUV is best for tight city parking?
The Fronx, at 4.9 m. Among larger Marutis, the electric e Vitara turns in 5.2 m, tighter than the Grand Vitara and Victoris at 5.4 m.
