Best Hatchbacks With Automatic Transmission Under Rs 10 Lakh: Which Trim to Buy

Best Hatchbacks With Automatic Transmission Under Rs 10 Lakh: Which Trim to Buy

Ten hatchbacks have an automatic with a maker-published price under Rs 10 lakh, and the best trim is rarely the cheapest. The Maruti Celerio ZXi+ AGS (Rs 6,75,400, 26.00 km/l) and Swift ZXi AMT (Rs 8,06,900, 26.25 km/l) give the most for the money, and the Baleno Zeta AGS (Rs 8,49,900) is the family pick. The Hyundai i20 Sportz IVT (Rs 8,86,200) is the only non-AMT, and the S-Presso is the only one with two airbags instead of six.

Ten hatchbacks sold in India have an automatic variant with a maker-published price under Rs 10 lakh, and on most of them the best one to buy is not the cheapest. The Maruti Celerio ZXi+ AGS (Rs 6,75,400, a certified 26.00 km/l) and the Maruti Swift ZXi AMT (Rs 8,06,900, 26.25 km/l) give the most car for the money, the Maruti Baleno Zeta AGS (Rs 8,49,900) is the family pick, and the Hyundai i20 Sportz IVT (Rs 8,86,200) is the cheapest hatchback here that is not an automated manual. The Maruti Alto K10 VXi+ (O) AGS (Rs 5,44,900) is the tightest budget with six airbags. Prices are ex-showroom and were checked in October 2026.

This is a trim guide rather than another ranking of starting prices. We already list the cheapest automatic hatchbacks and the automatic hatchbacks under Rs 8 lakh. Those answer "how little can I pay for two pedals". This one answers the question you face in the showroom: which automatic trim, of which car, is worth the money before the bill crosses Rs 10 lakh.

Maruti prices are read off the Arena and NEXA price pages. The WagonR ZXi+ AGS figure is the one Maruti's page leads with, which is the dual-tone car. Toyota's are from its Delhi dealer price list, effective 14 October 2026. Hyundai's are from the price service behind its own price page, set to New Delhi. Mileage is the certified figure printed in each brochure for the automatic. Tata and Hyundai print no certified mileage at all, so we have left those cells empty rather than borrow a number.

Every automatic here except the i20 is an automated manual, so on most of this list you are choosing between trims, not gearboxes. The automatic is usually the most efficient version of the car: the Swift AMT is rated at 26.25 km/l against 25.35 for the manual, and the Celerio AGS at 26.00 against 24.97 to 25.24. And the S-Presso, the cheapest automatic in the country, is the only car here with two airbags rather than six.

Under Rs 6 lakh: pay for the top trim, not the badge

Maruti Alto K10 VXi+ (O) AGS, Rs 5,44,900

The step from the VXi (O) AGS to the VXi+ (O) AGS costs Rs 47,500, and it buys the parts of the car you touch every day. The brochure adds a 17.78 cm SmartPlay Studio touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, four speakers instead of two, and steering-mounted audio and voice controls. Six airbags, ESP and reverse parking sensors are already standard on every Alto K10. The 998 cc K10C makes 50.4 kW (68.5 PS) and 91.1 Nm, and the AGS is certified at 24.90 km/l.

What it does not fix is size. This is the smallest car on the list, and we would not ask four adults to live in it.

Maruti S-Presso VXi+ (O) AGS, Rs 5,27,400

The S-Presso automatic is Rs 20,000 cheaper than the Alto K10 automatic, and it sits higher off the road. The VXi+ (O) AGS adds the same 17.78 cm touchscreen with smartphone mirroring, steering controls and electrically adjusted mirrors, and hill hold comes on both AGS trims. Certified mileage is 25.30 km/l.

The catch is in the safety grid. The S-Presso brochure lists "Dual Airbag" only, against six on the Alto K10. If those two cars are your shortlist, the Rs 17,500 extra for the Alto K10 VXi+ (O) AGS buys four more airbags, and we think that is the better use of the money.

Rs 6 lakh to Rs 7 lakh: the two most complete small automatics

Maruti Celerio ZXi+ AGS, Rs 6,75,400

The Celerio has three automatic trims, from the VXi AGS at Rs 5,63,400 to the ZXi+ AGS at Rs 6,75,400, and the top one is where the car makes sense. Only the ZXi+ gets the SmartPlay Studio touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Over the ZXi AGS it also adds 15-inch alloys, front fog lamps and push-button start. Every Celerio AGS is certified at 26.00 km/l, the best petrol figure on this list after the Swift, and every one has six airbags, ESP and hill hold.

Global NCAP tested the six-airbag Celerio in 2025 and gave it 3 stars for adults and 2 for children. That is a real weakness, and it is worth knowing before you choose it over a bigger car.

Maruti WagonR ZXi+ AGS 1.2, Rs 6,97,400

The WagonR's automatic trims split across two engines. The VXi AGS at Rs 5,99,400 uses the 1.0-litre (68.5 PS, 25.19 km/l), while the ZXi AGS (Rs 6,43,400) and ZXi+ AGS use the 1.2-litre K12N with 66.9 kW (90.9 PS) and 113.7 Nm, certified at 24.43 km/l. The ZXi+ is the only WagonR with the touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, four speakers and alloy wheels.

The reason to buy it over the Celerio is the body. The WagonR's boot holds 335 litres against the Celerio's 292, and the tall cabin is easy to get in and out of. The Rs 6,97,400 figure is the dual-tone price Maruti's page shows first. Single-tone paint costs less.

Rs 7 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh: where the choice gets hard

Maruti Swift ZXi AMT, Rs 8,06,900

The Swift is the most efficient automatic in this guide, at 26.25 km/l from the 1197 cc Z12E (82.93 PS, 112.4 Nm). Its automatic starts with the VXi AMT at Rs 7,12,900, but the ZXi AMT is the trim we would buy. For Rs 94,000 more it adds alloy wheels, LED projector headlamps, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, a wireless charger and push-button start, with the 17.78 cm SmartPlay Pro screen and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay carried over.

The ZXi+ AMT adds the 22.86 cm SmartPlay Pro+ screen, a rear parking camera, cruise control and Arkamys sound. Maruti's page leads with the dual-tone ZXi+ AMT at Rs 8,88,900, which is still well under the ceiling. If you drive long distances, the CNG automatic is worth a look too: the VXi CNG AGS costs Rs 7,92,400 and is certified at 35.34 km/kg, the best CNG figure of any hatchback. The weakness is space. Its 265-litre boot is well short of the Baleno's 318 litres.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Asta AMT, Rs 8,09,000

Hyundai offers five Nios automatics under Rs 8 lakh and the Asta AMT just over it. Hyundai's brochure lists ESC, vehicle stability management and hill start assist on every AMT, even the Rs 7,21,400 Corporate, which the manual Era and Magna do not get. The 1.2-litre Kappa makes 83 PS. Hyundai publishes no certified mileage for the Nios, so we cannot compare its running costs against the Marutis on Hyundai's own numbers.

Tata Tiago Pure+ A AMT, Rs 7,04,990

Tata's price page quotes the Tiago Pure+ A AMT at Rs 7,04,990 and the Pure+ A CNG AMT at Rs 8,04,990. When we checked, it did not render prices for the other AMT trims, so a cheaper Tiago automatic may exist. Six airbags are standard. Tata publishes no certified mileage, and the 4-star Global NCAP result often quoted for the Tiago belongs to the 2020 two-airbag car, so we have not used it.

Rs 8.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh: space, kit, or a smoother gearbox

Maruti Baleno Zeta AGS, Rs 8,49,900

The Baleno is the roomiest car here, with a 318-litre boot, and the Zeta AGS is its value point. Moving up from the Rs 7,49,900 Delta AGS swaps the 17.78 cm screen for the 22.86 cm SmartPlay Pro+, adds 16-inch alloys and a wireless charging dock with active cooling, and keeps wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Z12E makes 82.93 PS and 112.4 Nm, and the AGS is certified at 24.77 km/l.

Two trims above it are worth knowing about. The Alpha AGS at Rs 9,59,900 adds the head-up display, 360 View Camera, cruise control and ventilated front seats. The Alpha (O) AGS at Rs 9,99,000 adds Level 2+ ADAS with adaptive cruise control, and it is the only hatchback here with ADAS, priced Rs 1,000 under the ceiling. Bharat NCAP rated the Baleno 4 stars for adults and 3 for children. The 6-airbag rating applies to the Zeta and Alpha AGS, and the 2-airbag rating to the Delta AGS, according to the applicability tables.

Toyota Glanza G AMT, Rs 9,33,000

The Glanza now shares the Baleno's engine. Toyota's current brochure prints the same 1,197 cc three-cylinder with 61 kW and 112.4 Nm, and the same 24.77 km/l for the AMT. The automatic starts with the S AMT at Rs 8,31,000, Rs 81,100 more than the Baleno Delta AGS, and the G AMT at Rs 9,33,000 is the last Glanza automatic under the ceiling, as the V AMT is Rs 10,59,000. The S AMT CNG at Rs 9,31,000 is the Glanza's CNG automatic. Buy it if you prefer a Toyota dealer. The hardware is the Baleno's.

Hyundai i20 Sportz IVT, Rs 8,86,200

This is the one car on the list with a gearbox that is not an automated manual. The i20's IVT is a CVT, so it has no gaps between shifts, and Hyundai rates it at 64.7 kW (88 PS), up from 83 PS on the manual. The Sportz IVT costs Rs 8,86,200 and the Sportz (O) IVT Rs 9,30,700. The Asta (O) IVT is Rs 10,43,700 and over the ceiling.

You pay for that smoothness twice. The Sportz IVT costs Rs 36,300 more than a Baleno Zeta AGS, which has a bigger screen and a bigger boot. And Hyundai publishes no certified mileage, so the running-cost penalty of the CVT against the AMTs cannot be measured from its own figures.

Which one to buy

  • Single driver on a tight budget: the Alto K10 VXi+ (O) AGS at Rs 5,44,900. It has six airbags and smartphone mirroring, and nothing cheaper has both.
  • Lowest fuel bill under Rs 7 lakh: the Celerio ZXi+ AGS at Rs 6,75,400 and 26.00 km/l. Accept the 3-star Global NCAP adult score knowingly.
  • Small family on a city budget: the WagonR ZXi+ AGS 1.2, for the 335-litre boot and the tall cabin.
  • Best all-rounder: the Swift ZXi AMT at Rs 8,06,900. It is the most efficient car here and the best equipped for the price, with a small boot.
  • Family that uses the back seat: the Baleno Zeta AGS at Rs 8,49,900. Stretch to the Alpha AGS for the 360 camera.
  • Automated-manual shift pause you cannot live with: the i20 Sportz IVT at Rs 8,86,200, the only CVT here.

How this guide was built and what was not verified

Prices were read in October 2026 from each maker's own price channel: Maruti's Arena and NEXA price pages, Toyota's Delhi dealer price list, the price service behind Hyundai's price page set to New Delhi, and Tata's Tiago price page. Specifications, mileage and feature-by-trim come from each model's current brochure. For the Alto K10, S-Presso, WagonR and Glanza the specification pages are images, and we read them directly. Crash results are from Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP.

What we could not verify, and so left out:

  • Tata Altroz. It is the one rival with both an AMT and a dual-clutch automatic, and it holds a 5-star Bharat NCAP result. Tata's price page rendered no price for any Altroz automatic when we checked, so we could not test it against the ceiling.
  • Renault Kwid. Its AMT is likely the cheapest outside Maruti, but Renault's site gives no variant price for it.
  • Maruti Fronx. Its Delta AGS (Rs 8,24,900) qualifies on price, but it is a crossover, and we cover it in the compact SUV guide.
  • Real-world mileage. Certified figures come from a standard test cycle and will be lower in traffic.

Two Maruti prices carry a caveat: the WagonR ZXi+ AGS and Swift ZXi+ AMT figures are the dual-tone prices Maruti shows first. For crash scores in more detail, see the safest hatchbacks under Rs 10 lakh. For the gearbox itself, see the best AMT hatchbacks. For an earlier car-by-car view of this price band, see the best automatic hatchbacks under Rs 10 lakh.

Frequently asked questions

Which automatic hatchback under Rs 10 lakh has the best mileage?

The Maruti Swift AMT, certified at 26.25 km/l, from Rs 7,12,900 for the VXi AMT. The Celerio AGS follows at 26.00 km/l for Rs 5,63,400. On CNG, the Swift VXi CNG AGS is certified at 35.34 km/kg for Rs 7,92,400. Tata and Hyundai publish no certified figures, so the Tiago, Grand i10 Nios and i20 cannot be ranked.

Is there an automatic hatchback under Rs 10 lakh that is not an AMT?

Yes, one with a published price: the Hyundai i20 IVT, a CVT, from Rs 8,86,200 for the Sportz IVT and Rs 9,30,700 for the Sportz (O) IVT. The Tata Altroz dual-clutch exists, but Tata showed no price for it when we checked.

Which automatic hatchback under Rs 10 lakh has ADAS?

Only the Maruti Baleno Alpha (O) AGS at Rs 9,99,000, which has Level 2+ ADAS with adaptive cruise control. No other hatchback here offers ADAS at any trim under Rs 10 lakh.

Do all of these automatics have six airbags?

All except the Maruti S-Presso, whose brochure lists dual front airbags only. The Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR, Swift, Baleno, Glanza, Tiago, Grand i10 Nios and i20 have six as standard.

Is the Toyota Glanza automatic the same as the Baleno's?

Mechanically, yes. Toyota's current brochure lists the same 1,197 cc engine (61 kW, 112.4 Nm) and the same 24.77 km/l for the AMT. The Glanza costs more: its S AMT is Rs 8,31,000 against Rs 7,49,900 for the Baleno Delta AGS.
