Best 6-Seater SUV-MPV Crossovers in India: The Variant That Gives You Six Seats
The four true six-seat MPVs are a separate list; these are the SUV bodied cars. Mahindra is the only maker that publishes a price for the six seat variant, which is why the Scorpio N Z8L at Rs 21,68,699 and the XUV 7XO AX7 TECH at Rs 21,98,999 anchor this ranking. Bharat NCAP's applicability grid covers every six seat XUV 7XO, but lists the Safari's 6S variants only in the diesel automatic column. The Maruti XL6 undercuts all of them at Rs 11,62,300 with captain seats on every variant, though it is an MPV with crossover styling rather than an SUV.
Six three row SUVs on sale in India can be bought with a 2+2+2 cabin, and on every one of them the six seat layout is locked to a named variant near the top of the range. The cheapest is the Mahindra Scorpio N Z8L six seater at Rs 21,68,699 ex-showroom, followed by the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 TECH six seater at Rs 21,98,999. The Hyundai Alcazar restricts it to the Signature trim, the Tata Safari to Accomplished X+ and above, the MG Hector to an option on the Sharp Pro and Savvy Pro, and the MG Majestor to the Savvy 4X2, from Rs 43.49 lakh. Hyundai, Tata and MG publish no price for the six seat variant at all. For the layout at half the money, the Maruti Suzuki XL6, an MPV with crossover styling rather than an SUV, has captain seats on all seven variants from Rs 11,62,300.
That is the whole field. The four cars India sells as true six seat MPVs, the XL6, Kia Carens Clavis, Clavis EV and BYD eMAX 7, are covered in our guide to the six seat MPVs on sale in India. This list picks up the SUV bodied cars that piece set aside.
What counts as a crossover here
Three rules were applied. The car has to be sold and shaped as an SUV, with a raised body, cladding and a tailgate rather than a van profile. It has to have three rows. And its maker has to list a six seat version, with two individual chairs in row two instead of a bench, on a specific variant.
That rules out the Toyota Innova Hycross and Maruti Invicto, which are MPVs listed at seven or eight seats in both brochures, the Kia Carnival, a seven seater in a 2+2+3 layout, and the Tata Harrier and Mahindra Thar Roxx, which are five seaters.

Prices are ex-showroom, taken from each maker's own website on 15 October 2026. Crash scores are from Bharat NCAP. Hyundai, Tata and MG publish a starting price or a range and no variant list, which is why three cells carry no number: Hyundai starts the Alcazar at Rs 14,50,700, Tata the Safari at Rs 13,39,990, and MG prices the Hector from Rs 12,14,000 to Rs 20,14,800 with no six seat column.
Mahindra publishes the prices, and that changes the ranking
Most lists of six seat SUVs quote a model's range and leave you to guess what the six seater costs. Mahindra is the exception: both its three row cars expose the seat count on the variant list, so the figures below are exact.
Scorpio N Z8L six seater: Rs 21,68,699 as a petrol two wheel drive manual, Rs 22,46,794 as a diesel manual, Rs 23,05,399 as a petrol automatic and Rs 23,99,499 as a diesel automatic. Four wheel drive is seven seat only. The Scorpio N is the only body on frame car in this group, 4,662 mm long, 1,917 mm wide and 1,857 mm tall on a 2,750 mm wheelbase, with a 57 litre tank and the biggest published luggage figure here, 786 litres with the third row folded. The 2.0 petrol makes 149.14 kW at 5,000 rpm, the 2.2 diesel 128.6 kW at 3,500 rpm. Inside, Mahindra lists rich coffee black leatherette, a leather wrapped dashboard and a 12 speaker Sony 3D Immersive system.
XUV 7XO six seater: Rs 21,98,999 as a diesel manual, Rs 22,95,999 as a petrol automatic and Rs 23,44,999 as a diesel automatic on the AX7 TECH, then Rs 24,63,999 and Rs 25,16,000 for the petrol and diesel automatics on the AX7 LUXURY. Mahindra's brochure variant table shows the 6 STR row on those two trims only, and not at all on the all wheel drive. At 4,695 mm long and 1,890 mm wide on a 2,750 mm wheelbase it is the widest monocoque car here. The 2.0 TGDi petrol makes 149.2 kW with 380 Nm; the 2.2 CRDe diesel makes 136 kW, with 420 Nm as a manual and 450 Nm as an automatic.
The AX7 LUXURY is the only car on this list with ventilated rear seats, and Mahindra also gives it front and rear leatherette door trim, multi zone ambient lights, a 6-way powered co-driver seat, a 4-way power boss mode and a retractable rear seat sunblind. The AX7 TECH below it already has Level 2 ADAS with Sense+, ventilated front seats and a 16 speaker Harman Kardon system with Dolby Atmos.
The six seat variant is not always the one that was crash tested
This is the part worth checking before you sign anything, because a 5 star badge is awarded to a list of variants, not to a nameplate.
Bharat NCAP's applicability grid for the XUV 7XO is generous. It covers AX7 6 STR, AX7T 6 STR and AX7L 6 STR in petrol manual, petrol automatic, diesel manual and diesel automatic, so every six seat XUV 7XO Mahindra sells carries the 30.76 of 32 and 44.97 of 49 result. The cars actually crashed were seven seaters, the AX7 DSL 2W 7S AT and the AX7L DSL 4W 7S AT.
The Tata Safari grid is narrower in a way that matters. Six seat variants appear in it exactly twice, as 6S ACC+ and 6S ACC+DK, and both sit in the Safari Diesel automatic column. The whole grid, revised in December 2025, lists only Harrier and Safari diesel families. So the Safari's 30.08 of 32 and 44.54 of 49 covers the six seat diesel automatic and says nothing about the 1.5 Hyperion turbo petrol, which makes 125 kW (170 PS) and 280 Nm. The 2.0 Kryotec diesel makes the same 125 kW, at 3,750 rpm, with 350 Nm.
Neither the Scorpio N, the Alcazar, the Hector, the Majestor nor the XL6 appears in Bharat NCAP's published ratings list, so there is no crash score for any of them. That is not a bad result. It is no result.
The two where the layout is better than the paperwork
The Hyundai Alcazar Signature has the most considered second row in this group. Hyundai's trim plan allows six seats on the Signature alone, as the 1.5 turbo GDi with the 7-speed DCT or the 1.5 U2 CRDi with the 6-speed automatic. There is no manual six seater and no six seat Executive, Prestige, Corporate, Platinum, Signature Knight or Lounge Edition. On that variant the captain seats get a seat mounted armrest, a thigh cushion extension, wing type headrests and ventilation. The turbo petrol makes 117.5 kW (160 PS) and 253 Nm; the diesel makes 85 kW (116 PS) and 250 Nm. It is the smallest car here at 4,560 mm, on the longest monocoque wheelbase at 2,760 mm, which tells you where Hyundai spent the space.
The MG Hector advertises itself on the brochure cover as available in five, six and seven seat forms, and its Hector Plus feature block lists second row captain seats with an individual armrest, a 50:50 split third row and a third row air conditioner with separate fan speed control, all marked six seater only and all offered as options on the Sharp Pro and Savvy Pro. Then the price list prints a five seater column and a seven seater column and stops, and MG's website does the same. The current car is petrol only: a 1,451 cc turbo making 143 PS at 5,200 rpm and 250 Nm at 3,000 rpm, with a 6-speed manual or a CVT, in a 4,699 mm body. The six seater's price is a conversation with a dealer.
The two ends of the range
At the bottom, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 is the only car here where six seats are not a decision. Maruti's specification table reads six for both the petrol and the CNG, and the brochure ticks second row plush captain seats with one touch recline and slide for the Zeta, Alpha and Alpha Plus alike. Zeta manual Rs 11,62,300, Alpha manual Rs 12,58,800, Zeta CNG Rs 12,60,800, Zeta automatic Rs 12,97,300, Alpha automatic Rs 13,93,800, and the Alpha Plus at Rs 13,32,500 and Rs 14,67,500 in the dual tone paint NEXA lists. The 1.5 litre K15C makes 75.8 kW, stated by Maruti as 103.06 PS, with 139 Nm at 4,300 rpm, and is certified at 20.90 km/l as a manual, 20.27 km/l as an automatic and 26.23 km/kg on CNG.
Call it a crossover and you are stretching the word: 4,485 mm long, 5.2 metre turning circle, rear drum brakes, no sunroof, no driver assistance. What it is, uniquely here, is a six seater at the price of a mid variant Alcazar, with the lowest running cost in the group and the only CNG option.
At the top, MG's model page lists the Majestor in three variants, Savvy 4X2 6 Seater, Savvy 4X2 7 Seater and Savvy 4X4 7 Seater, with the range starting at Rs 43.49 lakh. The six seater is the two wheel drive car, and it is the only full size ladder frame SUV here with the layout.
What a six seat SUV costs you against a six seat MPV
Two things, mostly. Access to row three through the gap between the captain seats is easier in a van shaped body than in an SUV with a high floor and a wheel arch in the way. And the running cost gap is large: a Scorpio N diesel or an XUV 7XO petrol asks for roughly twice the fuel budget of an XL6 CNG.
What you get back is width, ground clearance, towing and presence, plus, on the two Mahindras, driver assistance and crash results no MPV at the same money can match. Our comparison of six seater MPVs with captain seats under Rs 25 lakh covers the other side of that trade.
How this list was built and what could not be verified
A car qualified only if its own maker names a six seat version on a named variant. Seating plans come from the current brochures: XL6 from NEXA, Alcazar from Hyundai, Safari from Tata, Hector from MG, Scorpio N and XUV 7XO from Mahindra, Majestor from MG's model page. Prices are the figures on each maker's site on 15 October 2026. Crash data is from Bharat NCAP, including the applicability grids, which are published separately from the headline score.
Hyundai, Tata and MG do not publish a price for the individual variant that carries the six seat layout, so three of the seven cars here have no price for the car you would actually buy. None of Hyundai, Tata, MG or Mahindra prints a certified fuel efficiency figure in the brochures we read, so the only mileage figures quoted are Maruti's. Mahindra's Scorpio N brochure calls the Z8L a six seater but never calls its second row captain seats, so take the 2+2+2 description as our reading rather than Mahindra's wording. We read MG's Majestor model page and not its brochure, so that entry is thinner than the rest. Nobody drove any of these cars for this article.

The Mahindra Scorpio N Z8L six seater, petrol two wheel drive manual, at Rs 21,68,699 ex-showroom. The Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 TECH six seater is Rs 21,98,999. If an MPV with crossover styling will do, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 is a six seater on every variant from Rs 11,62,300.
Which six seat crossover has the best crash result?
The Mahindra XUV 7XO, with 30.76 of 32 for adult occupant protection and 44.97 of 49 for children, and an applicability grid that explicitly covers its six seat variants. The Tata Safari scored 30.08 and 44.54, but only its diesel variants are in the grid.
Can I get a six seat SUV with a manual gearbox?
Yes, on the Mahindra Scorpio N Z8L and the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 TECH. The Hyundai Alcazar's six seat layout is automatic only, as a petrol DCT or a diesel AT.
Is there a CNG or electric six seat SUV?
No CNG SUV offers six seats. The only factory CNG six seater is the Maruti XL6 Zeta CNG at Rs 12,60,800, which is an MPV. For electric, the Kia Carens Clavis EV and BYD eMAX 7 have six seat layouts, and both are MPVs rather than SUVs.
Which six seat crossover has ventilated seats in the second row?
Three: the Hyundai Alcazar Signature, the Tata Safari from Accomplished X+, and the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 LUXURY. Hyundai and Tata both tie that ventilation to the six seat layout only.
Does the MG Hector Plus still exist as a separate model?
Not as a separate price list. The current MG Hector brochure covers five, six and seven seat versions of one car and keeps a Hector Plus block of six seater only features, offered as options on the Sharp Pro and Savvy Pro. MG's published prices cover the five and seven seaters only.
