Market position

Force Motors is a niche specialist — India's dominant shared-mobility van maker and a hardcore off-road SUV player — with negligible presence in the mainstream passenger car market.

India strategy

Force Motors is a Pune-based automotive manufacturer with a primary focus on shared mobility solutions — vans, multi-utility vehicles, and light commercial vehicles — rather than mainstream passenger cars. Its core product pillars are the Traveller and Urbania van platforms, which together command a claimed 70%+ market share in the Indian shared-mobility van segment, serving sectors such as education, healthcare, and tourism. In the passenger/lifestyle SUV space, the company sells the Gurkha — a hardcore, body-on-frame off-roader available in 3-door and 5-door variants — powered exclusively by diesel engines.

On the powertrain front, Force Motors remains predominantly diesel-focused across its lineup. The newly launched Traveller N range (May 2026) continues with the BS6 Stage 2-compliant FM 2.6 CR diesel engine, featuring improved body construction, robotics-assisted manufacturing, and connected-vehicle technology (iPulse). A CNG variant has been offered on earlier Traveller platforms, and an electric version of the Traveller (ambulance application) is described as ready, with an electric Urbania under development — though the company has signalled that EV transition demand in this segment remains low and it will launch when market pull materialises.

Force Motors operates five manufacturing facilities across India, including plants at Pithampur (Madhya Pradesh), Chakan (Pune), and Chennai. Notably, the company manufactures engines and axles for Mercedes-Benz India and produces/tests BMW engines at its Chennai facility — a significant B2B revenue stream that complements its own-brand vehicle business. The company has stated it has no plans to enter the mainstream passenger car market, citing the intense competition in that space.

With a reported Rs 2,000 crore capex earmarked over three years (as of late 2025), Force Motors is investing in digitisation, production modernisation, expanded sales infrastructure, and electric product readiness. Beyond domestic growth, the company is pursuing international markets (Middle East, Africa, ASEAN, South America) and the Indian defence segment — supplying a light strike vehicle variant of the Gurkha to the armed forces — as key growth vectors.
