Which 7-Seater MUVs Come Only With an Automatic? Every Option in India
Four 7-seater MUVs in India are sold only as automatics: the Toyota Innova Hycross, Maruti Suzuki Invicto, Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire. The Hycross is the cheapest, from Rs 19,53,000 for the petrol GX 7-seater with a CVT, and the Invicto is the cheapest automatic-only strong hybrid at Rs 25,02,400 with an e-CVT on all three variants. The Carnival (Rs 59,64,900) uses an 8-speed automatic, while the Innova Crysta is manual-only and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga VXI AT (Rs 11,30,300) is the cheapest 7-seater automatic we could price.
Four 7-seater MUVs in India are sold only with an automatic gearbox: the Toyota Innova Hycross, the Maruti Suzuki Invicto, the Kia Carnival and the Toyota Vellfire. The Hycross is the cheapest of them, from Rs 19,53,000 for the petrol GX 7-seater with a CVT, and all 13 grades on Toyota's Delhi price list are automatic. The Invicto is the cheapest automatic-only strong hybrid, with an e-CVT on all three variants from Rs 25,02,400, which is Rs 1,73,600 less than the cheapest hybrid Hycross. The Carnival (Rs 59,64,900) uses an 8-speed automatic and the Vellfire a CVT. If you only need an automatic and not an automatic-only model, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga VXI AT at Rs 11,30,300 costs far less. Prices are ex-showroom Delhi, checked October 2026.
Most 7-seaters sell a manual as the entry point and keep the automatic for higher trims. The four cars below skip that step, so the gearbox is never the reason to pay for a trim you don't otherwise want. This page lists them, explains which kind of automatic each one uses, and compares them with the cheapest automatic version of the 7-seaters that also sell manuals.
The automatic-only 7-seaters

Gearbox, engine and seating details are from each model's current brochure. Toyota prices are from Toyota's Delhi dealer price list, which marks every Hycross grade "Automatic", and exclude the pearl white surcharge. The Invicto prices are from NEXA's Invicto price page in single-tone paint, and the Carnival price is from Kia's Carnival page. Toyota's list returned no Vellfire price when we checked.
How this list was built and what was not verified
A car qualifies if every variant its maker currently sells in India has an automatic gearbox and it seats at least seven. We checked that against the price list or price page for each model (every variant's transmission), not just against the brochure. We counted MUVs and MPVs only. Three-row SUVs are a different body style and are not on this page.
What we could not check:
- Electric MPVs such as the BYD eMAX 7, Kia Carens Clavis EV and MG M9 have no manual either, since an electric car uses a single-speed drive. We couldn't get their makers' spec sheets during this check, so we haven't listed their prices or figures.
- Toyota's price list gave no Vellfire price.
- Renault's Triber page doesn't give the price of the Triber AMT, so we couldn't say whether it undercuts the Ertiga AT.
- We didn't price the Kia Carens Clavis automatic variants; Kia's page gives the model range only.
1. Toyota Innova Hycross: the cheapest automatic-only 7-seater
Toyota doesn't sell a manual Hycross. The petrol grades use a 1,987 cc engine rated at 126 kW and 204 Nm with what Toyota calls a Direct Shift CVT with sequential shift. The hybrid grades use the 2.0-litre strong-hybrid system, 139 kW, with an "e-Drive" transmission. Toyota's Delhi price list has 13 grades from Rs 18,70,000 to Rs 32,95,000, every one of them automatic. The Rs 18,70,000 G grade is a fleet grade, so for a private buyer the range starts with the GX 7-seater at Rs 19,53,000.
What you get at each step, per Toyota's brochure: six airbags on every grade, a rear retractable sunshade from the GX(O) 7-seater, cruise control on the hybrids only, a panoramic sunroof on the VX(O), ZX and ZX(O), and Toyota Safety Sense (radar cruise control, lane trace assist, blind spot monitor and a pre-collision system) on the ZX(O) only. The ZX and ZX(O) are 7-seaters only; every other grade comes as a 7 or 8-seater. Bharat NCAP rates the Hycross 5 stars, 30.47 of 32 for adults and 45.00 of 49 for children.
The weak point is the gap between the petrol and hybrid ranges. The cheapest hybrid, the VX 7-seater, is Rs 26,76,000, which is Rs 5,79,000 more than the petrol GX(O) 7-seater at Rs 20,97,000. More detail is on the Innova Hycross model page.
2. Maruti Suzuki Invicto: the cheapest automatic-only hybrid
The Invicto has three variants, and NEXA's spec table lists the e-CVT for all three: the Zeta Plus 7-seater (Rs 25,02,400), the Zeta Plus 8-seater (Rs 25,37,300) and the Alpha Plus 7-seater (Rs 28,70,500). It is the same strong-hybrid system as the Hycross hybrid, with a total system output of 139 kW (188.9 PS) and certified economy of 22.16 km/l. It costs Rs 1,73,600 less than the cheapest Hycross hybrid.
Maruti's brochure lists an EV mode, drive modes (Eco, Normal, Power), paddle shifters and cruise control on both trims. The Zeta Plus 7-seater has second-row captain seats with walk-in slide and recline and side tables, and every Invicto has six airbags, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, ISOFIX anchorages and a rear camera. The Alpha Plus adds a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, an 8-way power driver's seat with memory, a powered tailgate, a 360-degree camera, parking sensors front and rear, and tyre pressure monitoring.
There are gaps. No Invicto has ADAS, the Zeta Plus has no parking sensors at all, and there are only three variants, so you can't buy a cheaper Invicto with fewer features. If you want an automatic-only hybrid 7-seater and don't need Toyota Safety Sense, the Invicto is the cheapest route to one. Bharat NCAP rates it 5 stars, with 30.43 of 32 for adults and 45.00 of 49 for children. See the Invicto model page for more.
3. Kia Carnival: one variant, one 8-speed automatic
The Carnival is sold in India as one variant, the Limousine Plus, at Rs 59,64,900. Kia's brochure lists a 2.2-litre diesel making 142 kW and 45 kgf.m (441 Nm), and an 8-speed automatic is the only transmission, with a dial-type shift-by-wire selector and paddle shifters. It seats seven in a 2+2+3 layout.
The brochure lists eight airbags, Level 2 ADAS with 23 functions, an 11-inch head-up display, a 12-speaker BOSE system, a wide dual electric sunroof, electrically sliding doors and second-row powered relaxation seats with ventilation, heating and leg support. Bharat NCAP hasn't rated it. It is more than twice the price of any Innova, so it is on this list for completeness more than as a rival to the Hycross and Invicto.
4. Toyota Vellfire: hybrid, CVT, two grades
The Vellfire's brochure lists a 2.5-litre hybrid system with 142 kW (193 PS), 240 Nm from the engine and a CVT, the only gearbox offered. It seats seven, with extra-large second-row captain seats with ottomans, a second-row massage function and power roll-down sunblinds listed in the brochure. Toyota's price list returned no Vellfire price when we checked. For a comparison of these big cars as rear-seat cars, see our chauffeur-driven MPV guide.
The 7-seaters that also sell manuals
If what you want is an automatic, and an automatic-only model isn't the point, these are cheaper.
| Model | Gearboxes offered | Cheapest automatic | Price, ex-showroom Delhi |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maruti Suzuki Ertiga | 5-speed manual, 6-speed automatic | VXI 6AT | Rs 11,30,300 |
| Maruti Suzuki XL6 (6 seats only) | 5-speed manual, 6-speed automatic | Zeta AT | Rs 12,97,300 |
| Kia Carens Clavis | 6MT and 6iMT; 7-speed DCT (turbo), 6-speed automatic (diesel) | Not priced in this check | Range Rs 11,38,900 to Rs 21,78,900 |
| Renault Triber | 5-speed manual; Easy-R AMT on the 1.0 non-turbo | Not priced in this check | Range from Rs 5,80,875 |
| Toyota Innova Crysta | 5-speed manual only | No automatic | Rs 19,95,000 to Rs 26,96,000 |
The Ertiga VXI AT, at Rs 11,30,300, is the cheapest 7-seater automatic we could price exactly. It uses a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters on the 1.5-litre K15C (75.8 kW, 139 Nm), and the automatic runs up to the ZXI+ AT at Rs 13,14,100. It costs Rs 8,22,700 less than the cheapest automatic-only 7-seater. What it doesn't have is the Hycross's size or the Invicto's hybrid system. The XL6 has the same automatic but seats six, so it is not a 7-seater at all.
The Innova Crysta is worth noting because many buyers assume it has an automatic. Toyota's current brochure and price list show a 5-speed manual on every grade.

Frequently asked questions
Which 7-seater MUV comes only with an automatic transmission?
The Toyota Innova Hycross, Maruti Suzuki Invicto, Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire. The Hycross is the cheapest, from Rs 19,53,000 for the petrol GX 7-seater. The Invicto is the cheapest hybrid among them at Rs 25,02,400.
Does the Maruti Invicto have a manual version?
No. All three Invicto variants (Zeta Plus 7-seater, Zeta Plus 8-seater and Alpha Plus 7-seater) use an e-CVT with the 2.0-litre strong-hybrid system.
Does the Innova Crysta come with an automatic?
Not currently. Toyota's brochure and Delhi price list show a 5-speed manual on every Innova Crysta grade, from Rs 19,95,000 to Rs 26,96,000.
What is the difference between a CVT, an e-CVT and an 8-speed automatic?
A CVT varies its ratio continuously instead of shifting between fixed gears. The e-CVT in a strong hybrid such as the Invicto uses a planetary gearset and electric motors to blend engine and motor power, so it behaves differently from a belt CVT. An 8-speed automatic, as in the Carnival, shifts between eight fixed ratios.
What is the cheapest 7-seater automatic in India?
Of the cars we could price exactly, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga VXI AT at Rs 11,30,300. The Renault Triber offers an AMT, but Renault's page didn't give its price when we checked.
